#24770 This is a general thread to discuss different magical girl anime's from old to new and to show magical girl love from pictures to discussions and give suggestions to new magical girl shows. Peoples opinion of what makes a girl a "shoujo mahou" are different and that's okay. I will not allow any bashing but spoliers are fine as long as you label it as a spolier. Sorry for all the rules guys. Anyhow let's start!

What's your favorite magical girl anime?

Who is your favorite magical girl and why?

Have fun and discuss!

#24805 I guess I'll use this topic to talk about one show at a time to make it a little more easier to make conversation.

First up is a show I think most of us on this forum have seen and if you haven't it does deserve to be seen.

Madoka Magica has become extremely popular due to what really lies behind the pretty transformations and sparkly powers. It takes a light hearted stereotype and smashes it to pieces and I'm guess this how being a shoujo mahou would "realistically" be like. I won't say much on it due to being spoilers for people who haven't seen this anime yet but I would like to know everyone's opinion of this show? Overrated and hyped up? Or deserves the place in the anime world that it has for being groundbreaking?

I have to say I can't really seem to choose a favorite character because the all have such beautiful development. SPOILER- (even though Mami wasn't around very long she had a big change in just a few episode) and in a way they all pretty relatable to how people react to certain things differently and how they all seem to have peices of personalitys that we all have in us somewhere.

So what do you guys have to say about Madoka Magica?

#24845 I'm starting it on the 14th.

As far as my favorite MG series,I like Wedding Peach[/b. I know a lot of people don't but I got into it after
[b]Sailor Moon
(which I plan on adding more later on)was originally taken off the shelves by Toei.Got hooked
after the first episode and addicted after volume 1.
For some reason Momoko/Peach is my favorite character though I like all the girls, especially Yuri/Lily. iloveit1

I haven't seen much Sailor Moon but have now read all the manga and it's my second favorite MG series, with
as I said before Mercury as my favorite character.

And currently I am expecting season 1 of Magi Knight Rayearth from Rightstuf.I already have one volume plus
the manga for season 2.
Speaking of manga I also have the first and third complied version of the Tokyo Mew Mewmanga.

Now with all 3 volumes of Puelle Magi Madoka Magica I plan to have a fun time watching it over the next
couple months after I finish what I have of War on Geminar. mmhmm1

#24848 I love Wedding Peach as well. Found it at my local library years ago and its one of my top favorites and Momoko is also my favorite from Wedding Peach with Daisy as a close second. :)

Sailor Moon was a huge part of my childhood so its a show that's very dear to me with Venus as my favorite because of nostalgia I feel whenever I watch Sailor Moon especially a episode focused on Sailor V / Minako.

As far as Magical Knights Rayearth goes that's a show I personally couldn't really get into. I liked it at first but for some reason I really can't say way just one day I just didn't really enjoy it anymore. It wasn't a bad show or anything I just couldn't get into it anymore. I guess my mind just wasn't in the right set for it.

Tokyo Mew Mew I enjoyed a lot. I very much enjoy the transformations and their attacks a lot! I think Mew Ichigo is my favorite though I love Mint and Zakuro as well.

Have fun with Madoka mitsuki and thanks for sharing your thoughts. Tenchismile

#24863 Great idea for a thread, snow!

I am definitely a fan of the Magical Girl genre, although I haven't seen too much of it tbh. My obvious favorite of the bunch is definitely Sailor Moon. It was one of the very first anime I watched as a kid, and it was one of the first I went back and re-watched when I got back into anime. Needless to say, it only became even closer to my heart! Of all the Magical Girl shows I've seen, hell of all the anime I've seen, it probably had the best chemistry among the main cast of characters. I loved the interactions, often violent and often tender, between all the girls. It really felt like you got to know this group of friends really well by the end of the series, and every episode had at least one really great moment for one or more of them.

I recently watched Madoka Magica, and I really enjoyed it too! I liked the emphasis on the themes of sacrifice and futility, and especially the fantastic visual feel of the show! The Dada-esque designs of the witches and labyrinths really helped set the creepy tone of the show.

#24866 Thank you! mmhmm1

Sailor Moon is a show that can hit different people in so many different ways and when a anime can do that and move so many people and stands firm even after 20 + years of fame its certainly wonderful.

As for Madoka Magica it certainly catches my attention and makes me feel very strongly for the characters and what they have to go through. This is one of the first animes where its very difficult for me to choose a favorite character because I see some traits that I have in myself in each of the girls and a couple of the girls I very much relate to so it's really hits me deep sometimes emotional. The show has beautiful art and a very symbolic way of showing deep messages and that something that doesn't happen to often in anime now a days.

Thanks for your opinion chuck! Magical Girls are one of my favorite topics to discuss so if you guys have a question or want a recommendation don't be shy just ask!

#24876 I know that Kaleido Star doesn't really count but it has all the elements of a Magic Girl series plus the director also directed both Sailor Moon and Princess Tutu(which I plan on ordering in January and March respectively).Heck they even have a cute animal mascot in Jonathan the Seal! iloveit1
