    Type: drama

    Genre: horror crime

    Year: 2014-Oct-21 to 2014-Dec-23

    Introduction:

The show is based on the 1996 novel Subete ga F ni Naru by Mori Hiroshi. There’s also a manga and there will be an anime in 2015. Mercedez Benz is one of the sponsor of this show.

    Summary:

Saikawa Kohei, an associate professor of architecture at National Jinnan University, due to circumstances is together with his wealthy student Nishizono Moe. They become involved with unusual locked room murder cases and work together to solve them.

    Critique:

Ayano Go’s (Saikawa Kohei) portrait of Kohei is different from the closed yet reliable character in the novel/manga. Kohei is rather a lively nerd which actually fits him. His reactions and facial expression, wherein you can see his personality, are really good.

Takei Emi (Nishinosono Moe) plays the highly intelligent and serious yet cheerful and open Moe. She easily switches between the two sides of her. Her sly inquiring about Kohei or making him jealous is quite entertaining. There’s a good chemistry between both and they form a good partnership that’s very convincing.

Hayami Akari (Magata Shiki), surprisingly, manages to give off an eery, dangerous, dominating aura yet being nice. It’s near perfect for this murderer and super genius programmer. I guess the setup and dialogue do have a part in this.

Mizusawa Elena (Kunieda Momoko) plays the cold and direct assistant professor Kunieda which is a good counter balance to the Kohei-Moe pair. She also serves to bring in some comic relief.

As to the murder cases they are typical intrinsic closed room cases. The story is typical such that Moe goes investigating, takes some action and has to be rescued by Kohei. Kohei is reluctant because of her. Moe often uses her connection to get detective Totsugi Shigeyuki (Ukai Daisuke) to show her police reports. Daisuke expression of suffering at her hands is funny yet he’s all professional in his normal capacity.

However, that’s not all. The Magata murder cases are the highlight and true arc of the show. It’s all eery and thrilling. Despite little blood and censorship the facts by themselves and how they are told are horrific and scary. Unlike most shows the main arc gets relatively a lot of screen time. At this point it was impossible to stop watching.

    Verdict: 9.2
