Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo [The Japanese Don’t Know Japanese]Type: drama
Genre: social school comedy
Year: 2010-Jul-15 to 2010-Sep-30
Summary:
Kano Haruko (Naka Riisa) is a charismatic shop assistant who has been featured in fashion magazines. In pursuit of her dream of becoming high school teacher, she agrees to teach Japanese to foreigners for her former teacher (now director) on the understanding that she would introduce her for a high school’s Japanese language teaching position. However, she is challenged on her commitment and responsibility. In her excitement she accepts it with her dream and the students’ graduation on the line…
Critique:
This is an underdog show about foreign students and their troubles, about Japanese as a language and its finer things locals themselves don’t know or are ignorant thereof. That’s actually true for any country and their people. Usually foreigners (students) know (not necessarily everything) the local language better than the locals themselves this includes even ordinary simple words. I happen to have plenty of travel experience here. I happen to have met people/students from about a hundred countries, and seen films/shows from any country that ever had such an industry.
It may not have lots of actions and appealling as such a show but it’s great for what it’s meant to be. Saying anything less is an understatement.
Verdict: 9.7
Cast 10
Cast performance 10
Script/Directing: 9
