Understand though that print is dying. Nintendo realizes this and knows it’s not profitable to keep the magazine going. Newsweek did the same thing, going from a printed format to a digital one. Magazines and newspapers will follow suite in the coming years, and if I can make a bold prediction, I think print will either be gone or the minority by 2020. NP served it’s purpose, but in the digital/internet age, there is no need for it. Anything you need to know about a game is now available at a simple keystroke.
As far as remembering them, we had a few bins full of old issues from the 90’s, but they’re either lost to a flood or the trash bin.

LOL, I was at B&N yesterday. If I had gone today, I could have got the final issue for old time’s sake. I like how they paid homage to the first issue from the 80s, especially since New Super Mario Bros. U looks somewhat enjoyable. I’m really not surprised Nintendo Power died. PlayStation’s semi-official magazine, also published by Future, ended earlier this year, and I’ll bet Xbox’s will follow suit. From my personal point of view, Nintendo Power has pretty much been in decline for over five years now, and I’m glad they finally put-down the crippled horse during these oh-so-depressing times.
Also, does anybody recall the promotions they used to give out if you subscribed via a slip of paper which came with certain games? I remember a Nintendo 64-branded watch and some disgusting-looking canned food. Nowadays, they give out promos on Club Nintendo when you register hardware and certain games. I had been a member when it called “NSider” since early-2004, and have all my hardware and games registered from my original Gameboy Advance to Pokémon Black Version 2. Too bad I didn’t get anything for my dedication from all the earlier stuff…
NSider was actually an offshoot of Nintendo Power with its own forums. LOL, I had tens of thousands of posts on there until it was stopped in 2007. Honestly, I’m kind of glad they got rid of it, so I have nothing to remind me of my past teenage stupidity.
So long, tiny promotional posters that were impossible to properly tear out of the magazine.

I subscribed to NP many many years ago and enjoyed it, but I’m not surprised it’s ending. I think Tyler is right. 13 years ago when I got NP the internet wasn’t the awesome information machine it is now. NP is actually how I got all of my information. With sites like IGN today, paying for paper magazines is silly. I’m sad to see it go, but it’s probably going to be an inevitability for all physical magazines.
