This short lived comic book series lasted for only 17 issues, and was published by Marvel’s Paramount Comics imprint. The imprint was created in the mid-90s specifically for Marvel’s Star Trek line.
Early Voyages is also one of the best Star Trek comics to every been published. It followed the adventures of
the crew of the original Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike and of course is of interest to Trekkers since it is set in the same time span as The Cage.
Basically this is the series that we all wish Enterprise had been but wasn’t.
What made The Early Voyages super-cool was the retro feel along with the kick butt attitude.Even
Carlotti, the Enterprise’s Chief Nurse kicks butt!
😎 Main characters:
Captain Christopher Pike
Ensign Spock,science officer
Lt.Commander Robbins, aka Number One,yeah she got a name and rank finally!
Dr.Boyce
Yeoman Colt
these all appear in The Cage, the others were created specifically for the comic:
Carlotti,Chief Nurse from the New Milan Colony.Family was wiped out when the Cahkuun, the shock troops
of the Tholians attacked. Finally was able to get over her grudge in part 2 of The Fallen(vol.11).
Burning-Fire-Runs-With-Grace,chief engineer.A descendant of Masai warriors from Kenya.
Mohindas,of Asian(probably East Indian)descent conn officer.

According to the Star Trek Chronology Spock entered Starfleet Academy in 2249 and Kirk in 2250.So I would say it occurs when Kirk is either still at the Academy or during his first deep space mission after graduating. It’s hard to tell if Spock is still a Cadet or not as he is simply given the rank of Ensign,so he may or may not
still be studying at the Academy.
It’s unforunate that it only lasted for 17 issues. But in that brief amount of time they certainly did a lot.
The Chakuun were an interesting set of aliens.Instead of the normal humanoid they appear to be centuaroids
(i.e.centaurlike creatures).
And we finally got to see what really happened on Rigel prior to
The Cage.
