El-Hazard: The Dual World PV Campfire page is live!

El-Hazard, a shining gem from Pioneer’s 90s OVA output and sibling series to Tenchi Muyo!, has joined the latest round of IP revivals as AIC seeks to expand its portfolio. As previously reported, the project is being crowdfunded via campfire. Its page has finally gone into a pre-release state as of this writing, and Tenchiforum’s got the details! So let’s do a little hubba-hubba-zoot-zoot and go over what we know.

The story centers around Naoto, a popular high schooler and the top of his class. His world is thrown into uncertainty when a strange cat appears to him. As Ifurita notices the Eye of God collapsing in the sky above, things begin to change in their worlds…

Farasha Jinnai, daughter of Katsuhiko and Diva, follows in her father’s footsteps and chases her dream of becoming Class President. As the Bugrom prepare their next move, her close friends and successors of the water and wind priestesses, Mau (daughter of Fujisawa and Miz) and Cefi, join her to face the crumbling Eye of God and her family’s legacy.

This new project aims to produce a 5-minute-long PV that will serve as a pilot for a possible full TV show. At 5 million yen, AIC is asking fans to fund half of the total costs for the PV, mentioning that another 5 million has already been provided by other sources. They estimate that they will need around 200 million for the full TV show, and this PV will be a major step in proving to potential financiers that El-Hazard is worth investing in.

In celebration of the series and AIC’s history, they want to make a PV fans of the original series will be proud of and hope that they will be able to enjoy a full El-Hazard show once again. Eagle-eyed fans may also notice a figure holding Ifurita’s staff in the main promo image, making one wonder what Makoto Mizuhara is up to…

Campfire does not allow foreigners to contribute without a bank account or credit card tied to a Japanese address, so Western fans will have to stand by during the funding period. Tenchiforum will be keeping an eye out for further production updates!
