So I realize this is like a month late, but whatever. Sue me. No, really. I could use the practice. tuxedodouche Anyway, so the weekend of Nov. 7 saw my second Nekocon. While not quite as blowout awesome as the first one was (a lack of Steve Blum will do that), it was still a really fun time!
Cosplay was just as good as last year, and even featured some characters/…things… from my all time favorite franchises! Here goes:

This guy had a fantastic beard (you could be forgiven for thinking it was real, it was that good!), and he portrayed the good Captain to a tee, even down to his iconic eye-covered pose! It was a real pleasure to see the classics well represented.
Next up was the AMV contest. It was pretty standard fare, although there were definitely a couple entries that have since made it into my favorites list. I detailed them in this thread:
. For those interested, here’s the rest of the entries:http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=777&start=160#p25776 ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=777&start=160#p25776 http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Anime%20Cons/Nekocon%202014/20141111_153623_zps8nww9ikq.jpg" /> http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Anime%20Cons/Nekocon%202014/20141111_153636_zpstoyldyce.jpg" /> This was the first con I’ve been to that has attempted a Sing-A-Long category. It was pretty disappointing, sadly. Oh well, I hope they work out the kinks for next year, because I think it’s definitely an idea that could work!
Next up, my favorite part of every con: The dealers room! It was a pretty light haul this con, relatively speaking, but I did manage to snag two things that I think are pretty cool.
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Anime%20Cons/Nekocon%202014/20141111_154157_zpsdkuixfed.jpg" /> First up is this neat little Phoenix Wright pin. It was only a buck, and it produced some pretty humorous looks when I wore it to law school, so I’d say it was well worth it! Speaking of well worth it though…
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Anime%20Cons/Nekocon%202014/20141109_014936_zpsmislme6l.jpg" /> This signed Goldenboy set is without a doubt one of the best con purchases I have ever made! Just as I had begun to give up all hope of finding at least one special find at this con, I caught this beauty from the corner of my eye and I knew instantly that I had to have it. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this series, don’t let the porny cover fool you. This is a comedic masterpiece, and a strong contender for best voice acting performance in an English dub. I
highlyrecommend everyone watch it immediately! On second thought, it is actually pretty porny, so hide the kids THEN watch it immediately! 😆 Finally, I managed to attend the Phoenix Wright mock trial event this year, and it was pretty fun all around! As a big fan of the Ace Attorney series (go figure, amiright?) this was an amusing little comedy skit put on by regular con attendees. The “plot” followed everyone’s favorite criminal defense lawyer’s seemingly impossible task of solving the mystery of the murder of the Guardian of Fire and Passion, Sailor Mars! There was a LOT of fourth wall breaking and audience participation, and the whole proceeding was presided over by a dimension hopping Deadpool. It was laugh, that was for sure.
Anyway, that about wraps it up for Nekocon 2014! It was a fun experience, and I’m very glad to see how much it has grown, even in the two years I’ve visited it now. Pretty soon I reckon it’ll be the premier con in eastern VA, and be a reasonable alternative for the bigger east coast summer cons like Otakon. Sorry again for the delayed posting, I’m sure you were all on pins and needles waiting for it, lol.

And now I dare you Chuck to wear that Phoenix Wright pin when you take your bar exam! 😆 Somehow I was hoping for kitties because it had Neko in the name.
