This thread regards errors or coincidences that are strange with the different series. This can range from a coloration error to a sudden design change. To give an example, consider the following ship in
Universe, the flagship of Jurai’s fleet in the bottom center of the image below. http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/JuraiSojaand2GPShipsDesign_zpsbcefaf46.jpg " /> It first appears in Episode 15 under the command of the white-haired admiral who proclaims “Yosho” as the new emperor of Jurai.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/soja-universe15-1_zps0288479d.png " /> http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/soja-universe15-2_zps9c59ce63.png " /> It also crops up in Episodes 24-5 during the battle with Yagami and Ken-Ohki.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/soja-universe24-1_zpsbbff47bf.png " /> http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/soja-universe24-2_zps32d743b0.png " /> http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/soja-universe25_zpsd3ea9d76.png " /> Now, this design should look very familiar to anyone who has watched the OVA.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/SojaShipDesign_zps597a117a.jpg " /> The resemblance to Soja is unmistakable, and considering Kagato’s role in
Universe, a natural assumption would be that this isthe Universecounterpart to the ship in the OVA. However, there are some noticeable design changes. However, in Episode 23 and the recap in Episode 24, this happens.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/soja-universe23_zps489596d9.png " /> This is very much the OVA design for Soja, and it never appears again in
Universe. So, was this ship in Episode 23 meant to be the Juraian flagship shown above, or was it another vessel altogether? Were the animators just being lazy, or going for some sort of surprise? You be the judge!

Another of my favorite continuity errors appears in UniverseEpisode 22, where the knights first appear. Azaka and Kamidake are both decked out in badass Juraian combat garb, complete with those black facial marks. Now, I always was curious at how the marks on the faces of the two knights were more leaf-like than the claw-like marks you see on Tenchi, Ayeka, or Kagato, .or even NagiHowever, in this episode, there are two times the marks on Kamidake’s face vanish inexplicably. To illustrate each, I have included screen captures of before, during, and after the disappearance.
The first is when he reassures Sasami after he and Azaka decide to deal with the battleship.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kamidake-episode22-1_zps72663f77.png " /> http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kamidake-episode22-2_zps8b7d797e.png " /> http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kamidake-episode22-3_zps9140fed8.png " /> The second time is when Kamidake asks Sasami if she is alright after the knights blow the ship away.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kamidake-episode22-3_zps22bdc0b7.png " /> http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kamidake-episode22-4_zps83c4c64c.png " /> http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kamidake-episode22-6_zpsabcd04db.png " /> Now, noticeably, these both occur when Kamidake is in closeup speaking to Sasami. So, did the knight shut off his power for a second to reassure or show concern for the princess, or pose for the camera? Did lazy artists strike again? You decide!

Did lazy artists strike again? You decide! butts1 Well no artist who works in original cel-painted animation is lazy, overworked and underpaid? You betcha, but not lazy. Universe was also on a tv budget that ran an episode every week, so they had to have these out the door quick. Hence the OVA Soja popping up in Universe, they probably took a cel from the OVA run and threw it in there quickly because in the world of animation, time literally equals money.
It’s also something to keep in mind that while the key staff for the Tenchi series often changed, more than likely the “grunt” staff did not, and Universe and OVA 2 were happening at the same time, so they were probably double overworked and just flying by the seat of their pants.
Ordinarily I would be a stickler for this if it was a big deal in the main cast (like the Ninja Turtle voices changing from turtle to turtle per scene) but most of these errors are like the famous disappearing button in Dexter’s Lab, not really a big deal.

I apologize. I had not meant to insult their livelihood.

This is probably the best explanation for the inconsistencies.

I had not planned on this thread to be a serious knock against the animators. Mistakes can be made in any profession, particularly when under time or budget constraints, and your reasoning is likely the best explanation for what was happening behind the scenes. Hell, there are some notorious errors in G1 Transformers that could make you raise an eyebrow or two, likely due to their production schedule and budget.
My intention was to point out a few curious glitches that might be interesting to discuss in-universe reasons for their appearance, or are just humorous to see. I apologize for not being more clear in my intent. I meant no disrespect.

I meant no disrespect.Oh I wasn’t trying to be malicious, but people always assume that errors like these, even in jest, are from lazy people just trying to cash in, when in reality it’s usually quite the opposite. I have no problem in posting errors or flub ups, but I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents

To tell the truth I don’t think I noticed when I was watching Universethe marks appearing and disappearing on Kamidake’s face. Then again I don’t think too many people pay attention to such things when they’re watching.Though I would say that both of them probably did power down when talking to
Sasami.
And if they were working on both OVA 2 and
Universeat the same time they might be excused for being rushed at times to get things done.

The only animation/continuity flow error I ever noticed was a small but funny one that I believe Shadows pointed out to me – http://i.minus.com/ibxPhQK4sUZ6wp.png" /> In OVA 1 ep 6, Ryoko is smashed against a wall by Kagato after he exerts himself during their battle. A few minutes later, Tenchi arrives aboard the Sōja with a strange alteration to the steps where Ryoko was ground into just moments before:
http://i.minus.com/ibx6Vv3l39EgZ0.png" /> But Tenchi’s foot is trapped and unable to move as he hadn’t completely teleported himself in. Azaka and Kamidake then show up to protect Tenchi, Ryoko and Ayeka while he gets his foot free. Kagato is less than amused by our guardian friends and sends them flying back into the wall where their impact holes had already been about a minute and a half prior:
http://i.minus.com/idC6awoNdvmoh.png" /> It’s interesting to note that this error shows up in several levels of detail. As pictured above with a low LOD, and again in a much more detailed background seen here:
http://i.minus.com/iUrQknhW86XIf.png" /> http://i.minus.com/iswQpuE282qMj.png" /> A funny little goof, though it does make me wonder if this scene initially had a different order when written and was changed without drawing an additional cel only showing Ryoko’s Amigara Fault hole for those few scenes.

While I was compiling images of the house for the , I noticed an interesting continuity error. Throughout all three OVA series, the roof of the Masaki house is blue, both before and after Mihoshi destroyed it in “Night Before the Carnival”. However, in OVA series 3 episode 1, Tenchi is visiting the house’s former site in town. As he is reminiscing, he envisions the house in its former resting place, with a red roof.Art Evolution threadhttp://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/ova3_1_zps59a8ead3.png " /> This begs the question. Was this a continuity error, or was the roof of the OVA series 1 house originally red and later painted blue?

Since what you say indicates that it has to do with Tenchi’s memories perhaps it isn’t a continuity error but simply Tenchi mis-remembering the color of the roof. That or the animators for OVA 3 hadn’t been paying attention. But I would rather rake it up to Tenchi’s memories being off.I mean how many of us correctly remember the color schemes of the houses we grew up in even 10 years later?

I could buy Tenchi misremembering if he was not living in the same house in OVA series 1 episodes 1-2. If he was misremembering, he would likely remember the most recent incarnation of the house (i.e. blue roof), rather than the older.
As for the animators, that could be speculated, though we don’t really know either way.

Yeah, that’s why I’m going with Tenchi having a bad memory. -

So, I was grabbing some screenshots for when I caught this little glitch.another threadhttp://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/Capture2_zpsgnvuzdcq.png " /> I don’t think Ayeka’s eyes are supposed to be yellow.

Yeah, I think you’re correct. Aren’t they supposed to be lavender or something like that?
