Magical Girls Thread

As far as my favorite MG series,I like Wedding Peach[/b. I know a lot of people don’t but I got into it after

Sailor Moon(which I plan on adding more later on)was originally taken off the shelves by Toei.Got hooked

after the first episode and addicted after volume 1.

For some reason Momoko/Peach is my favorite character though I like all the girls,especially Yuri/Lily. iloveit1

I haven’t seen much Sailor Moon but have now read all the manga and it’s my second favorite MG series,with

as I said before Mercury as my favorite character.

And currently I am expecting season 1 of Magi Knight Rayearth from Rightstuf.I already have one volume plus

the manga for season 2.

Speaking of manga I also have the first and third complied version of the Tokyo Mew Mewmanga.

Now with all 3 volumes of Puelle Magi Madoka Magica I plan to have a fun time watching it over the next

couple months after I finish what I have of War on Geminar. mmhmm1

And two other titles that need more lovin’ are Fancy Lala and Full Moon. Both are about 10-12

year old girls who suddenly find a way of making themselves teenagers and become Pop Idols over night.

With Fancy Lala it’s a magic pen and with Full Moon it’s the help of a couple of wacky but kind

shinigamis.

Both are worth the watch.Plus Full Moon has some really great singing. soawesome1

Now AFAIG: I do have my Sailor Jupiter plushie and if I knew how to post a pic I would.While she isn’t my #1

favorite(that would be MERCURY!)I agree she’s still soawesome1 . As are they all.

It’s like Wedding Peach in that regard,it’s hard not to love all of ’em(well maybe except that annoying

Chibiusa).

HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT FULL MOON, I *really* need to finish that! I was reading the manga (can you tell I read more manga than watch anime? ) but I was really liking it. Arina Tanemura’s art is so amazing. So detailed and beautiful! She did another magical girl manga called Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne which I have also yet to finish but what I read was cute;;;

I hope they do Minako’s appearance in Crystal like in the manga which was very cool. soawesome1

It’s only later that the rest of the Senshis learn how much of a ditz she is!

I’m still on the fence as to wheter I should get just Crystal or both it and the original.

Anywho,since I won’t be doing that until March I have time to make up my mind.As to other MG series,I will

be starting Madoka this Sunday.

I did some looking up at the Puella Magi Madoka Magica to check out what seiyuus were in it.

Though seriously her character doesn’t show up until episode 4 or 5 from what I read.But I will wait for awhile

Yes,I will keep you up to date on my thoughts of Madoka.Who knows which will be my favorite character when all is said and done.I mentioned Nonaka Ai because I really loved that pic of her with the uke. iloveit1 iloveit1

She also played Shima in Stellvia and one of the fairies in Bottle Fairy so this is the third title that

she’s in that I have.

Also I keep forgetting to mention Cutie Honey, unless I have,but seeing as it was the prototype of the

Fighter Magical Girl of which SM is the most familiar,it should get a shout out here.

Really the only difference is that Cutie Honey was targeted more to a male audience while the average

MG show is targeted to a female one.

btw:If the Witches are really what the Magic Girls become then at some point in time there must not have been any

Witches so therefore is it ever explained WHY the first Magic Girls were created if there were no Witches for them

to fight since at some point in time They were destined to become the First Witches that the next Magical

Girls would fight before they themselves turned into Witches?

And don’t worry Snow most of that was just me philosophizing. Now as far as it goes I really enjoyed episode 1

of Madoka,but it’s also a case of me doing too much research beforehand because I have to confess to not being as impartial as I ought to have been toward Sayaki.Though she does make my top 5 favorites along with

Madoka,Homura and Mamori.I was rather surprised I ended up liking Mamori so much.But she ended up on my

top 3.It now depends on how I like Kyoko wheter or not she’ll stay at #2 or fall to #3.The same with Homura if

she’ll stay at #1 or fall to #2 once Kyoko appears.

I’m thinking of re-watching Full Moon when I finish with Madoka as a way to decompress.

I’m still on the fence as to wheter I should get the original Sailor Moon along with Crystal.

What does everyone think?

Well in my defense I do have a lot of anime that Ohara Sayaki appears in,I mean after Inoue Kikoue she’s #2

with the most anime in my collection.

And I should have realized that was one of the Clow Cards from CCS. Kiyofacepalm1

Funny thing Ohara Sayaki plays Layla on Kaleido Star which I will be watching tonight. soawesome1

Aside from Sailor Moon the one series that I think of as the holy grail of Magic Girl Shows would be

Precure(the original).

I know what you mean.The more you watch of any type of anime the more favorite characters you are going to amass.

Yesterday I found a website called The Magic Girl Wikia it has information on all sorts of MG shows from

Anime to Live Action including not just Japanese but also American shows.Though it was the first time I ever

thought of either Charmed or Sabrina:The Teenaged Witch as being Magic Girl series.

Well I guess if you were to stretch the meaning to include everything that has girls with supernatural or magical powers in them then they would certainly be included.Though I think most of us would still limit it to Japanese

anime and live action.

Still an interesting site and if you haven’t seen it look it up.

Actually there’s the live action Melissa Joan Hart Sabrina The Teenage Witch from the ’90s and an older

cartoon from the late ’60s early ’70s.The cartoon is based more on the Archie comics and has her interacting with the Archie gang.

Oh..and The Official Magic Girl Wikia has a monthly contest where you can vote for your favorite Magic Girl to

be added to their Hall of Fame.September’s winner was Mew Zakuro,October contestants include a bunch of Precures along with Homura and Sailor Saturn.

I hated it when they moved Season 2 from Monday night on Toon Disney/Disney to Saturday morning on

ABCFamilychannel.The one I had the hardest time liking in the beginning was Cornelia because she came across as being real snooty at the beginning.

It’s interesting that in PGSM Sailor V is actually the first Sailor Senshi they show,the first scene is of her

chasing Tuxedo Mask.

Oh:BTW:Kyoko finally showed up at the less moment on episode 4 of Madoka.Now it’s between her and

Mami for #2 spot,I already conceded that I’m pretty much a Homura fanboy.

I also found out that they list Inukami!, Hell Girl and Stray Little Devil as Mahou Shojo series.

The latter is a manga series about a girl named Pam whose grandmother tells her a spell to meet a friendly devil.

She does so and ends up in the Spirit World.But to get back to the human world she has to become a full fledged

Devil!

It’s really short (only 5 volumes) and really fun.

The character Vine is such a sweetie.But my favorite is Lizyerra the girls’ sexy one-eyed teacher. soawesome1 soawesome1

a lot of the games involve some form of Kyubey abuse or Kill Kyubey for some odd reason.

For example in one game you play as Homura and it’s basically a Whack-A-Mole type game except you try to

whack as many Kyubeys as possible.Another game seems to be based on that scene in episode 6 where Kyoko

wants to pound the you know what out of him.

I plan on getting Sailor Moon Crystal in March.I still want to get SuperS and Stars as well.

Depends on how much space I have but also want the movies and specials but especially Ami’s First Love. soawesome1

AFAIG mangawise I’m starting Inukami! on Sunday…so much fun and 180 reversial from Hell Girl.

The Fake Hell Correspondence bonus story at the end of vol.4 always gets to me because of the fact that the girls

misjudged the teacher thinking she was being mean to them but she was only trying to help them be better students.

I’m 2 months away from ordering Vividread Operation but in the mean time for November I have

the non-Magic Girl series Girls Und Panzers to order.Vividread is pretty expensive which is why I’m going to order it around Christmastime.

Y’know it be fun if they could do something like Precure All Stars except with Magic Girls for different series.

I’d love to see a team up involving the Love Angels from Wedding Peach with the Sailor Senshis from

Sailor Moon and Mew Mews from Tokyo Mew Mew along with of course Homura,Kyoko,Mami,Madoka and

Sayaka from Puell Magi Madoka Magica.At the end the music could be a duet between Full Moon

and Fancy Lala! it be so soawesome1

Well the way I figure it why not have something like that it be fun!

The way I was thinking it be like something on the lines of DC’s ‘ Crisis On Infinite Earths‘ where there’s a massive threat and various Magic Girls from the different Realities have to come to fight it together. soawesome1 soawesome1

Magic Girls wouldn’t it mean that no matter how hard Homura tried Madoka and Sayaka would always be fated to

become Magic Girls because they already made the choice in the original time line?Kind of a Predestination versus

Free-Will debate.

2.Asagiri Miko/Shrine of the Morning Mist I think though either Priestess(es)of the Morning Mist or

Morning Mist Priestess(es)makes better sense since the episode introducing the Dark Priestess Club is a pun on the

series title.

3.Binzume Yousei/Bottle Fairy Who knew our favorite red headed Puella Magi girl also had the power to shrink

herself and live in a bottle!

4.Cutie Honey It really all starts with this one as the original 1973 series was the first Fighter Magical Girl series.

5.Di-Gi-Charat Nyo! the site didn’t actually, as I recall, list it but it did list Di-Gi-Charat which is good enough.

6.Dragon Half And yes,that’s the voice of Sailor Moon as Mink in the original Japanese.

7.Fancy Lala IIRC this came out before Full Moon but overall similiar in some ways though not in others.

8.Full Moon wo Sagashite speaking of which..yes this is my other favorite Mitsuki that isn’t in Duel.The songs are worth it.

9.Fushigi Yuugi Yui!Yui!Yui! this is one of those shows where I find the bad guys a bit more interesting

and fun to root for than the good guys.

10.Ghost Sweeper Mikami just got in the mail today in fact! iloveit1

11.Ikki-Tousen this was one of the ones I was surprised got listed.That said I’m just another Ryomo

fanboy.Something about that one-eyed sadistic maid cosplayer….!

12.Kiddy Grade and another one that took me by surprise though I guess what with the ES powers of

Eclaire and Lumiere…

13.Kimagure Orange Road the original Madoka!I think it’s because of Kurumi and Manami’s esper powers.

15.Mahou Shojou Lyrical Nanoha Hey!There’s supposed be a new series with our Kyoko starring in it coming up.

16.Mamotte Shugogetten I have the manga and saw the fansub of the anime on YOUTUBE.This is kinda

17.Pretear Horie Yui as Mikage is my favorite character even though she’s the BIG BAD.

18.Puella Magi Madoka Magica I guess I don’t have to say much here.

19.Ranma 1/2 yep,another show that surprised me ending on the list.Have some of the manga and the first movie.

20.Magic Knight Rayearth got the anime for the first season and the manga for the second,so will read the manga after I watch the anime.

21.Rosario X Vampire I guess Moka’s transformation is what qualifies it.Looked through the most recent

copy of the manga the last time I was in Spokane and it looks darker than the anime.

22.Rozen Maiden I’m going to have to get the new series.

23.Sailor Moonincluding PGSM‘ve got the complete manga now and one volume of SuperS

along with the first 20 episodes of PGSM.Actually watched the preview for the original series before

watching Sakura Wars on Saturday.

29.UFO Princess Valkyrie yes I know the English title is Ultramaiden(whatever THAT means).Ecchi fun and Ms Sanada is my favorite catgirl maid.(doesn’t hurt that Tanaka Rei also played a certain other girl with the last name of Sanada.Hey..do ya suppose Ms Sanada’s first name might be Mitsuki that would be soawesome1 )

30.Urusei Yatsura everyone’s favorite tiger stripped bikini wearing space princess!

31.Inukama just started the manga yesterday.Like I said I’m a Yoko fanboy.She’s so cute but also so

32.Wedding Peach my overall favorite.And it’s got Tessa from FMP as a Magic Girl in the Japanese original!

Anyways my October order of Ghost Sweeper Mikami came with a Sailor Mars card.(Did I mention that already?)

That is unless you happen to be a Zombie living with a Witch, a Ninja Vampire and a Magic Girl whose powers you

accidentally sucked up!

Yeah for the fact that the second arc is going to be broadcast for Sailor Moonnow here’s hoping they do the entire series.

I was at The Magic Girl Wiki on Saturday and decided to look up a title called Astro Girl, I thought it be something like Astro Boy,but I was pretty wrong!

Turns out that it was a 2 movie live action series made in 2007 that basically is a rip-off of Supergirl,but to be

exact the 1990s-2000s Peter David version with the Linda Danvers/Earth Angel Supergirl.Though they seemed to have changed the names and did a bit of enough tweaking not to get Peter David and DC pissed at them(or else

they either didn’t know about it or didn’t care).

The only real difference looking at the DVD covers is that she’s wearing an ‘A’ instead of an ‘S’ on her shirt.Also in the second movie DVD cover (which proves it’s the Linda Danvers S-girl)the color of the t’shirt and mini skirt are reversed they have a blue t’shirt and a white mini-skirt whereas Linda wore a white t’whirt and a blue mini

skirt.Still overall it would be fun to take a look at it just to see the Japanese take on S-girl!

Oh:BTW:I am thinking of starting a thread discussing my thoughts on Puella Magi Madoka Magica when I’m done with it as I don’t want to spend a needless amount of time taking up the space here so I thought a separate

thread might be a good idea.

I agree they’re probably one of the best yuri couples in anime.Though IIRC the manga doesn’t really go too far

it just hints at their relationship.

I still would love to see how they met and were awoken as Sailor Senshis.

Seriously though I really think that Kyoko’s food obsession comes from the fact that her family was poor as the proverbial church mouse once her father was excommunicated for his preaching.The one scene where all they have

are apples to eat shows why she’s always munching away at something.

Yeah…pretty well knew you meant Hikaru x Michiru since they’re really the only other couple in Sailor Moon

besides Usagi x Mamoru.Though I think Rei x Minako make a rather interesting non-yuri couple.

It’s interesting there’s an episode of PGSM where Sailor V and Sailor Mars end up in conflict in a church.Sailor V lets Sailor Mars know in no uncertain terms how she’s disappointed in her.

Well I finally saw episode 9 of Puella Magi Madoka Magica that was certainly a doubly sad one with the deaths

of both Sayaka and Kyoko,the latter when she’s protecting Madoka from Oktavia.I love the way Kyoko says one last

prayer before her final attempt to defeat Oktavia.

So now it’s down to Homura and Madoka.

And yeah,I have to agree Sayaka is a character that you has to grow on you.Though I don’t regret putting her at

#4.

Also I like the way I’ve been able to talk it out hear as it has been help to me getting through Madoka

otherwise I think I be a basket case by now what with everything happening. woooo1

Yes,you really need to see PGSM.I only regret I only was able to get the first twenty episodes as I missed out on the entirety of the Dark Mercury arc,which is probably one of the hardest bits to get through emotionally if you happen to be a Mercury fan.

But on the whole it is worth watching.Though I wonder if they’ll ever officially release it outside of Japan.

In another seven weeks or so I’ll be watching not one but three MG shows a week(four if you count Kaleido Star) as I’ll be watching Full Moon Sundays, Magic Knight Rayearth Tuesdays and

Ghost Sweeper Mikami Fridays.Can’t get too much cooler..uh? soawesome1

Oh…just wondering have you ever seenMermaid Melody Pichi Pichi and if so what did you think?

From what I have seen of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi it seems to be something people either love or hate.

I think Hanon is probably the closest in character design of any Magic Girl to Usagi.

And Madoka is now listed on the poll for Magic Girl Hall of Fame over at Magic Girl Wikia.She’s got 2 votes

and is the only one I know.All the rest I don’t have a clue about.If another Cure wins I shall have to go back and

read the Pretty Cure Wiki again.

I enjoyed episode 10 yesterday a lot.So the whole thing is really Homura’s wish to keep meeting Madoka which in the end causes Homura to have a Bill Murray like Ground Hog Day expierence.Though what was Madoka’s original wish it the original time line?

Getting back to Madoka I enjoy it so much I put it up in my top 20 list of anime at #15 just below

Neon Genesis Evangelion at #14.

And as far as Pretty Sammy goes,something tells me if I ever watched it I might end up rooting for Pixie Misa.

I read at the Madoka wiki that each of the seiyuus who play the main characters all tried out for Kyubey.

Madoka’s seiyuu sounded ‘too childish’ and I think Saito Chiwa ended up sounding way ‘too stupid’.

On a sad note the seiyuu who played Madoka’s mom is said to have a rare autoimmune disease and so she was

being cared for by her mother.

AFAIG:Just Sunday for the finale of Madoka and Monday I shall be ready with my final thoughts on the series.

Despite it being a bit depressing at times,Sayaka’s death etc.,I really have enjoyed it.

In short I really loved it a lot.I think it was one of the best to come out of the 2010s thus far.

The ending especially was bittersweet but hit the right buttons.Sayaka and Madoka together at the

concert hall was one of my favorite scenes of the entire series.

It was also great seeing Mami and Kyoko again.

Coming into it I didn’t know how much I would like it,but it more than met my expectations and

beyond anything I could have dreamed of.

I think the last three episodes were more about Homura than Madoka.Also I thought when Madoka arrives at the end of episode 11 Homura was going to turn into a Witch.I guess that happens only in the game and movies(?)and not the tv series.

Music wise,I think that the OP is one of those that is really catchy and it’s still playing in my head.

If you have the DVD watch the Music Video that comes with the first volume.IIRC it’s where they

get the animation for the ED for the majority of the show from.

Kyubey,I really think for the most part isn’t either good or evil,being an alien he simply has

different way of looking at things.Though his cruelest was when he was egging Sayaka on.

I took the last scene with all five girls with their backs turned meant that the world no longer needs either Incubators or Magic Girls.I could be wrong there but that is my thinking on it.

Any ways,yes,I would love to get the movies one of these days,probably down the road a bit

before I end my collecting days.

And so on to Full Moon to unwind from Madoka.

Full Moon is a fun show but unfortunately for some reason or other Viz decided to cancel before

I have only the finale to watch of Inuyasha:The Final Act and then on to Magic Knight Rayearth. Fuu is the Ami of the Knights plus she is a full fledged megane-sama.

I think you’ll love PGSM Snowqueen,from just having watched the first 20 episodes,it really is totally soawesome1 soawesome1 .It does get a bit dicey and emotional though when you get into

the whole Dark Mercury Arch.But then again Mercury Fanboy here.

Anyways speaking of old time classics you should also see about Fancy Lala.

Well I have only seen the first twenty episodes as I said,but from what I have read of the rest of the

series The Dark Mercury Arc is pretty intense,even though it lasts 6 or 7 episodes.Though the down side to it all is that it introduces Sailor Luna.PGSM version of Chibiusa, a lot of fans really hate her.

I did manage to contact Rightstuf via e-mail and they said as long as it doesn’t have the ‘Discontinued tag that I could still order Princess Tutu.So that’s what I did since

I saw Ahiru and Rue’s transformations from Princess Tutu over at the Magic Girl Wikia on

Saturday.Rue’s into Princess Kraehe looked painful.Poor girl like Yui in Fushigi Yugi she’s

deceived by the Big Bad.

And now I can’t wait to get Princess Tutu.Sounds like Puella Magi Madoka Magica it’s going to be a bit dark.

January I am going to order Cardcaptor Sakura season 1 and then later in the year order the movie.

Even though it’s not technically a magic girl series,I’m starting season 2 New Wings of

Kaleido Star tonight.Since I have both the Funi and ADV versions I will be alternating weeks

between the two.This week I am beginning with the ADV version.

So through the first two episodes of Magic Knight Rayearth and it’s pretty clear now that

Hikaru is the main character of the trio.

is so similiar to Mercury in being the logical member of the trio.It’s also interesting that according to

the Magic Knight Rayearth Wikia Umi happens to be the Pisces of the group.So logically being a

Pisces myself she ought to be my favorite(plus her color is light blue).Or maybe it’s because I like

smart logical magic girls. soawesome1

Although my liking Momoko kinda skews that theory.
