    This thread is for Mihoshi and Kiyone love ONLY. You can say why you love them, talk about their scenes in the anime, post pictures of them, ect. This thread is not for criticism, debates, or bashing. If you start causing trouble in this thread, you will be banned. First offense will get you a month long ban, second offense will result in a permanent ban.

      I love Kiyone, definitely my favourite character in any Tenchi series, and a major reason why I like Universe so much. I think I’m a sucker for the serious, sensible character types (see also: Yomi in Azumanga Daioh). Love when she takes out soldiers with her combat yo-yo in No Need for a Checkpoint). Plus her love-hate (well, mainly hate-hate) relationship with Mihoshi is very funny.

      We all love Mihoshi. Even though she falls into dumb blonde territory, she’s our dumb blonde. Anytime things got serious you’d always count on Mihoshi to screw it up and give you a smile on your face. She’s the anti-Washu, really, where one is the calculating and smart one, and the other is the bumbling ignorant fool.

      When paired up with Kiyone we got an odd couple style of relationship, with Kiyone always seeming to be foiled by Mihoshi. But Mihoshi seemed more childish than ignorant in later incarnations, taking away from her lack of intelligence and making her more naive. But had it not been for Kiyone lending her ship in Universe, who’s to say how things would have fared? While they were both rather minor in the scope of things, they filled their roles well, and to boot they aren’t that bad looking ladies either >3>

      Kiyone was always smart and loyal, even to her partner who held her back from so many promotions. She loved her (whether or not you believe the whole “They’re dikes” theory that’s your problem) and couldn’t hurt her, no matter how many times she got mad at her. That’s quite a bit of restraint and maturity from someone under so much pressure.

      Mihoshi is the prettiest Tenchi girl with Aeka and her personnality is funny (at least, in the OVA). I don’t really care about Kiyone, but I like Evil Kiyone from the Mihoshi Special.

      Meow! These are my favourite characters. I don’t have any pictures to post at the moment… but I shall provide my two cents about these characters.

      Mihoshi I have always loved, since I watched her first episode of OVA 1 and she fell from the sky. She is blonde like me, and kicked butt when she fought those cobras onboard Soja! I also loved the Mihoshi Special, even though that version of Kiyone wasn’t my favourite. But now Kiyone is much more my favourite, though I didn’t really like her at first I have grown to like her lol. She just kicks so much butt and is smart. One of the best episodes with MihoKiyo is Episode 6 of Universe where they have the part-time jobs… why can’t there be a MihoKiyo spinoff? I would so love that. Kiyone also has very pretty hair :)

      A long long time ago, someone made a petition for a Miho-Kiyo series… cba to find it now but it had maybe 50 signatures and though petitions don’t work it gave me hope :eff:

      What is with her headband anyway? Apparently Kajishima drew it for her? *shrug*

      I like her with it and I like her without it. She has pretty hair :D I wish we had a Miho-Kiyo series to explain where she got Yagami and what her life was like during academy… and of course meeting Mihoshi. We as fans can only speculate. I like Universe because it doesn’t have all of the… family stuff, so no Kuramistus or all of the Jurai people. We can almost assume that Mihoshi’s family isn’t involved with the Galaxy Police in Universe so she would have had a different story of how she got involved with it.

      Her relationship with Kiyone… I see it just best friends maybe a tad sisterly.

      That part in Tenchi in Love where she enters the hotel looking for Kiyone, I always wonder what kind of drugs/alcohol she has consumed…

      & I gotta’ agree on some level with Mittens, Kiyone and Tenchi seem to have very similar personalities, it’s a wonder that the possibility of any sort of connection at all isn’t really hinted at much in the series.

      Wow so much Kiyone love, its great! When I watched TM! as an elementary school student I pretty much ignored all the girls in favor of Ryoko, and I still lover her, but since I rediscovered TM! I’ve come to consider Kiyone my favorite character. Whereas Ryoko is an all time classic character when it comes to personality and screen presence, Kiyone is a uniquely subtle character among all of the anime I have seen. Probably the most neglected of the main cast, Kiyone seems on the surface to be a bland character, but I think that she is masterfully constructed so that we, the viewers, are able to “fill in the blanks” of her character with our own thoughts and experiences. My favorite things about Kiyone can be separated into two categories: what we see of her onscreen, and what I myself see in her personally.

      Onscreen: One of my favorite things about Kiyone is that she is the most relatable character on the show. Compared to the rest of the cast (especially the OVA versions, where most of them end up being gods) she is the most “normal.” She works hard, holds down multiple crappy jobs, and has a ton of friends who bum rides off her all the time, all of which I can now personally relate to. On top of this, she always puts forth her best effort, even for the crappy jobs that she dosent really care about, which is more than any of the other girls do, and is a trait she shares with Tenchi. Even though she trys to be, she cant avoid having a little fun sometimes, as evidenced by her adorable soft spot for karaoke. She also clearly deeply cares for her friends, and puts their needs before her own, yet another trait she shares with Tenchi (can you tell where I’m going with this yet ;) ). Finally, when confronted with the maddness that is :ryoohki: :washu: :scared: :fight: she steps in and trys her best to sort things out, unlike Tenchi who usually runs away to the carrot fields or the spa.

      Offscreen: All of her onscreen traits make her a very likeable, respectable, and relatable character, but it is the way I imagine how she is deep down that really makes me love her. I think that she is incredibly selfless, not only because of the way she looks after Mihoshi, but by the fact that she chose to be a GP officer at all. She is clearly extremely competent and smart, yet she chose the relatively unglamorous life of a police officer, which leads me to believe that she has a sincere and deep desire to help people. I also think that she is a very passionate person who probably loves Tenchi just as much as the other girls do, but realizes that Tenchi isnt ready for any type of romantic relationship, and shows her love by being as good a friend as she can for him. This image of sacrifice and quietly bearing the burden of unrequited love really gets to me. It’s very possible that none of the above was intended by the shows creators, but it’s what I see when I look at Kiyone.

      Here I am, age 24.. working two part-time jobs to pay bills, going to karaoke with friends once in awhile… I can now relate a lot more to Mihoshi and Kiyone’s situation on Earth with the apartment. Not the whole stranded in the middle of “nowhere” with a bunch of crazy friends or becoming a most wanted criminal thing luckily.

      I mentioned in chat… where are all of the Mihoshi and Kiyone fans of old? Especially Kiyone fans? I know there used to be a lot of us, now there aren’t many of us left or they just dont have much of an online presence ): It’s sad. I had a handful of online friends that liked Mihoshi and Kiyone, but I’ve either lost contact with them or they just don’t have interest in Tenchi anymore.

      Sorry *wipes away a tear* Anyway, Where do y’all suppose Kiyone got Yagami?

      I can totally see Kiyone working her ass off at multiple jobs for years in order to scrounge together enough money to buy it from a used spaceship dealer, and then spending her free time fixing it up and doing some modifications on it. It’s obviously been tuned and modified because it is able to escape so many chases and break through so many blockades. I think this also explains why she is so comfortable in the cockpit, and why she keeps it in such good shape (way better than Mihoshi keeps hers in the OVA). I imagine that her connection with Yagami is similar to Han Solo’s connection to the Millenium Falcon and Captain Mal’s connection to Serenity :ugeek:

      I thought they mentioned a little bit about the ship in TU…. it was a big old cruiser.

      I kind of always thought of it more like the Bebop from Cowboy Bebop.

      I dunno what to tell you Mittens… I can count the Kiyone/Mihoshi fans (the die hards not the here today gone tomorrow types)

      on one hand that I’ve met in my time. Kiyoka being at the top of that food chain.

      You feel like an underserved fan group, come join us dualfans… ;) we share tea and cookies while reminiscing about our

      once great site, forum, and people that were there to fill it.

      *takes control of this thread, feeling nostalgic from seeing Toonami and after digging through old threads from Tenchi Muyo forums that have died. Hands out some muffins and hot chocolate for all*

      What other part-time jobs do you think Mihoshi and Kiyone would have ended up doing? We’ve seen them in the construction business and fast food. With the rate at which Mihoshi screws up, they probably didn’t have jobs long.

      And… what if Washu’s Mecha had gotten ahold of a strand of Kiyone’s hair instead of Mihoshi?

      WOW. Awesome mega-post Mittens! I knew that her hair varried, but I never realized by how much. I really can”t decide which color I prefer, she just looks so pretty all the time 😮 !

      It’s taken awhile for me to apprecieate it, but I have to agree with JG in that TMiL2’s styling is good. I wish we could see more of Kiyone as she looks in that second TMiL2 pic.

      Don’t see why people love her hair in the 2nd TMIL2 pic. I quite like her pulled up her in the above shot more. Makes her look sexeh :P

      I’m an equal lover of Kiyone green hair… but I can appreciate the pose and styling of both TMIL2 versions.

      The TU one I think is the appropriate green… TMIL2 was trying to do a more realistic dark green look for her.

      Which granted maybe isn’t as pretty a teal green, but it’s the styling that saves it there.

      Going back to the Dual pic though,our gals must really have made a racket has notice the woman holding the pillow and

      Apparently that picture is from one of the Hasegawa novels, and she was a big fan of Slayers. Kiyone, dragon slayer? =P

      Dang, this thread is getting almost as long as the Ryoko fan thread. I love it!

      Kiyone approves!

      Anyway, it recently came up in the podcast that Hasegawa’s Kiyone (the original one), as seen in the second Tenchi Movie, is much more calm and level headed than her other iterations. I found this very curious, and I would love to see more of this Kiyone, the Kiyone with a smile on her face and a song in her heart lol.

      It was goofy as a compliment. Minako-chan has the privilege of being my first favourite anime character, long before I had ever seen Tenchi :) I even was her for Halloween one year (technically my first cosplay?).

      Actually the yo yo started out as a weapon in the Philippines.

      Claws,good for close quarter combat,disadvantage though if your opponent is out of range.

      Whip is best since it can be used both long and short range.Ok,I might be prejudiced since Zakuro uses a whip in Tokyo Mew Mew.

      Evil Kiyone: Appeared in a radio drama called “Pretty Sammy Magical night” that apread across 3 sets. At the end of the Mihoshi special a short animation showed this evil Kiyone vs Pretty Sammy. Likely roughly based on the radio dramas due to Kiyone looking for a new man in them. In the radio drama I belive this version of Kiyone poses as her Magical project S persona, but unknown to all but her is some sort of evil wizard. This evil version’s personalty is hard to explain, going only by the tone of her voice as no subbed version exists. One thing’s for sure, she enjoys destruction and laughing alot. This is actually Kiyone, and by my understanding has always been this way. Evidence of this is on the first file in the radio drama; she runs away when her mother tries to marry her to someone. She is met by her 2 minions (forgot their names) after. Type of evil: Not afflicted by any outside source. Naturally evil.

      Evil Mihoshi: I can only go by screenshots. A red organic form goes into Mihoshi and possesses her, taking over her mind with its own. Type of evil: Possessed.

      Actually I think that pic is from Universe. The ep. where they are trying to sneak through the Juraian checkpoint disguised as a school group. Although I definitely agree about her hair being awesome in the movie(s).

      IMO these two are the best part of Tenchi Universe, series wouldn’t be nearly as fun or funny without them!

      Yeah i’ve been looking for this baby for years, but I never use Ebay (too shady imo) so its taken me quite awhile, found some small shop on a make your own store type site, was reluctant at first but it seemed reliable enough and I actually got my USPS confirmation pretty quickly after I placed the order, with any luckk I should have the book by this weekend or the 17th at the very latest.

      Man, its a shame these character books were never localized, I would loved to have seen them in english.

      Well, in the OVA story line it was hinted at that she was a good cop at some point. At times, she even still displays some competence. In Universe, however, it does seem likely that she lucked her way through the academy or that there was nepotism.

      No brainer, but which Kiyone do you all prefer? :Cheeks: Hasegawa’s version, Mihoshi Special, Universe/First film, Tenchi in Tokyo, Pretty Sammy/MGPS, Daughter of Darkness, Tenchi Forever or Evil?

      Only a few of us have read the Haseqawa novels and know what her original version was like, but I’m sure she was great… wasn’t the Kiyone in the second Tenchi film supposed to be close to her? Idk.

      I still prefer how she was in Universe and the first film. She had pretty hair and was voiced by Sherry and was Mihoshi’s BFF.

      And, since they share a thread, Mihoshi’s…

      I was most comfortable with the OVA 1-2 Mihoshi, not so much with OVA 3, she had a different feel and just wasn’t the same anymore to me. Secondly, Universe and I thought she was funny in Pretty Sammy/MGPS. She had a lot of weird moments in the first film. Mihoshi also is cool in Okuda’s mangas.

      Oh the wide world of Kiyones…. Why don’t I make it easy on myself and say I love them all! Wont do? Oh, well then I suppose I would have to go with Universe/TMIL1. She’s cool, competent and in control! Not to mention beautiful, sexy, and totally BADASS when she nailed KAIN with the dimensional cannon! She’s more uptight in the Mihoshi Special, she’s lovely but strangely carefree in DoD, and manic depressive in TiT lol.

      As for Mihoshi, it’s definitely the original OVA version. She actually had a brain and wasn’t just the typical “dumb blonde” trope. The truth of the matter is though, neither one is complete without the other…

      The only Kiyone I know of are the one in the Mihoshi Special and the Universe one.Of course there is also

      Evil Kiyone at the end of the Mihoshi Special too… 😉

      Kiyone in Universe is the one we see at the end of Dual too.

      And don’t forget for some reason they changed Techi’s mother’s name to Kiyone as well just to really

      mix things up.

      As far as Mihoshi goes,I agree with Chuck that she isn’t as much as a ditz in the first OVAs as they make

      her in,say the manga.Though she still is a major klutz.

      I know that some people are of the opinion that Mihoshi and Kiyone were lesbians, and that wouldn’t bother me, but I just see them as having a very close, best friend/sisterly relationship. Like, I have a best friend who is clumsy, bubbly, always late… but she’s awesome :) Are there really relationships like Miho-Kiyo in other shows? Briefly reminds me of Rei and Usagi in Sailor Moon.

      I know that some people are of the opinion that Mihoshi and Kiyone were lesbians, and that wouldn’t bother me, but I just see them as having a very close, best friend/sisterly relationship. Like, I have a best friend who is clumsy, bubbly, always late… but she’s awesome :) Are there really relationships like Miho-Kiyo in other shows? Briefly reminds me of Rei and Usagi in Sailor Moon.

      I’ve said this before once upon a time somewhere, but I see a very similar dynamic with the relationship between a certain two representatives of Bernardelli Insurance.

      Meryl: focused, career oriented, frustrated when her partner acts airheaded (which is often)

      Milly: yes, a bit ‘airheaded’ (or perhaps, quite a bit), usually cheerful, tends to be blissfully ignorant of the gravity of the situation, but a loyal friend once you become one to her.

      I’m currently watching Tenchi Universe for the first time (about to watch episode 10), and the characters I’ve enjoyed the most have definitely been Mihoshi and Kiyone! I loved Kiyone’s debut episode where she thinks Mihoshi was killed, and while I’m sure she was a little sad, the truth is: she was happy! You could tell Mihoshi is such a burden on her. I wonder how different her life would be if she was never paired with Mihoshi.

      I’ve seen some people wish Kiyone would be paired with Tenchi… I’m not sure I want that. First of all, I haven’t seen her show any attraction toward Tenchi, or any guy at all, plus, she seems to be independent, more so than any of the other characters, and certainly more than Mihoshi. To me, the fight over Tenchi will always be Ryoko vs. Ayeka. Plus… is it wrong for me to wish for Kiyone to be paired with me?? 😳

      I’ve liked one or two Kiyone x Tenchi fanfics, but I agree a good thing about Kiyone is that she’s not romantically interested in Tenchi, and that they’re both the straight characters surrounded by nutcases.

      No I think Mihokiyo are more like the Laverne & Shirley of the Tenchiverse.Now if we could only get Mihoshi to wear a large M on all her clothes and to start drinking milk with pepsi in it(I think she actually would do it too! 😆 )

      Though I think Mihoshi does know how to push all of Kiyone’s buttons by now.See how in episode 6 of

      Universe she gets her to sing karaoke as an example.

      While I mainly see Miho-Kiyo as best friends, it doesn’t bother me to see them as a couple. Despite Kiyone’s reaction in her first episode and elsewhere, there are a few moments in Universe that make one wonder.. like the way Kiyone smiled at Mihoshi at the end of Episode 6.

      But it doesn’t matter, because they are still fun characters and I love them :)

      So Mihoshi is a big fangirl of Moldiver.Anyone know the connection? Just wondering why they used that

      particular anime for Kiyone to get her attention in episode 8 of Universe.

      And this also put Kiyone up higher on my list of faves.I think if I had started watching Universe without having seen the first two OVAs now that Kiyone would be definitely my favorite.But as it is she can only tie with Aeka.

      This brings up something interesting. Where is Kiyone from? I’m assuming not from Jurai, or else we probably would have heard more about it in the show. One of Jurai’s colony worlds perhaps? Something similar to Earth in the OVA continuity? Or some as yet undetermined planet in the Galactic system. For some reason I’ve always kinda had this image of Kiyone coming from a planet with lots of water. I don’t know why, maybe its her teal hair :D

      We take her for granted so much because she has always been with Mihoshi that we forget she had a

      completely separate life before coming to the GP Academy.

      I would guess either Jurai or a Juraian colony or perhaps even Earth.Maybe her family was brought to

      Jurai like Funaho.Who really knows?

      Since she appears to be fair skinned I would think she came from a planet with a climate similiar to Northern

      Japan or Northwestern Europe or the northern United States or Canada.

      I would agree wherever she came from seems to have a lot of water.

      Great question! Idk, but thats why universe is fun, it’s so open ended (like, where’s nagi from? Where’s washu or ryoko from, for that matter?). As for kiyone in kajishima universe…i sometimes overlook she’s there at all (mihoshi special is canon, right? Even so, i wonder how much kajishima personally invested in it, because why would he have tenchi’s mother and mihoshi’s partner have the same name? … crud, hope i didnt open a whole can o worms just there) but i would say there’s plenty of room for her to not have been from jurai (like the kuramitsus, dont know exactly where theyre from, but obviously it’s a climate prone to create darker skin…or miho’s family just tans alot).

      I tend to think of the Mihoshi Special as off in it’s own happy, crazy, little side continuity. When watching it, it almost feels like the writers just gathered around one day and randomly threw together as much fun and creative story elements together as possible with only two rules: Continuity didn’t matter, and no level of insanity was too high! Frankly, I can’t think of a more purely entertaining way to write for a one-off special ep!

      I think Kiyone is the hottest women in Tenchi Muyo. She has a certain maturity about her, that I gravitate towards, and because she has only appeared in anime and the movies, and not in the OVAs, she is the only one we haven’t seen naked. (And the little teaser we saw in Tenchi In Love, she has a nice body) So she has that mystic to her. And if she is the villain in the Pretty Sammy video, that seals it for me.

      Not necessarily but more than likely, I only say that because there is another “Makibi” in the OVA canon, “Mashisu”, but I don’t think Kajishima would go for it.

      Still she wasn’t in any of the spas in the OVAs, so my point remains. My point being, the OVAs has no censorhship issues with fan services, they could go all out, which the anime and I guess even the movies can’t.

      You got to see a decent amount of her chest in Episode 5 of Universe.

      But anyway, going on 11-12 years, still a big fan of Mihoshi and Kiyone. I love them both. I wish we could delve more and more into Mihoshi’s past in the OVAs, with less family members involved. And I also loveee Kiyone and her hair and I like her down-to-earthness but wish she had more background story but it’s Universe/Tokyo so we’re left to create fanfiction. I love Mihoshi and Kiyone’s relationship. Kind of like people I know or maybe I am kind of like Mihoshi sometimes…

      My favorite duo, though my heart will always lie closer to the hard working, down-on-her-luck blue haired beauty.       I finally ordered in the MihoKiyo Dragon Magazine and it arrived over the weekend. Some really crazy art in here of the two of them that I hadn’t seen around before! Even a few sketches of Evil Kiyone and Mihoshi Special Kiyone that were not included in any of the scans available of the AIC sketchbook series (which I haven’t taken pictures of, though really scans are the only way to truly appreciate ’em).

      I’m not sure. Its obviously photo shopped, but thats the only version I found. For all I know this may have been the original picture, rather than someone taking someone else’s cosplay shot of Miho and Kiyo and slapping Pedobear on top. Its hard to say.

      Why do you guys thing Mihoshi and Kiyone were demoted/reassigned back to Earth at the end of Tenchi Universe?

      Kiyone was finally where she wanted to be and rubbing it in Mitsuki’s face. Mihoshi was just happy being able to hang out with an unstressed-out Kiyone. The carnival pulled them back in again for whatever reason and they headed back to that apartment in Okayama.

      For all we know, they’re still there today, doing part-time jobs and going to the karaoke lounge. Living the life.

      Mihoshi being Mihoshi one can expect she did something that got them both into trouble again.

      It didn’t have to be anything big it could be something really simple and really stupid. In the end

      TPTB probably thought Earth was the safest place to put them as it was less likely that Mihoshi would do any major damage there! 😆

      Now AFAIG with Kyone…who else would you send to Earth to babysit Mihoshi?

      Well I don’t think Lapis would ever think of killing Peridot, that’s the only main difference I can think of.
