Ok so as the title might indicate… we’re looking to start a project to redub Ryoko’s parts in OAV 3.

was incorrect, and we wish to rectify this by completing our project here.
We’ve no personal or professional issues with Mona Marshall; Petrea Butchard simply voiced every other English appearance of
the character. We feel she has a rightful place as that character’s voice, and wish to restore it as such.
How on earth will we do this?In stages:
Orange –Good Job!Green –Thunder-Ohkis Are Go!White – Hold Up Now (not there yet)
Phase 1:JGZ will go through and create a script from OVA3, of all Ryoko’s lines.
He’ll also record the lines at the same time, and assemble them into one MP3 file.
This MP3 will be loaded on soundcloud where annotations can be made so you can see
where each clip belongs and hear it.
Phase 2:We’ll need volunteers to go through all the Tenchi material on YouTube (tenchiforum channel),
and find clips that will sound similar or fit the clips from OVA 3.
When you find a clip, pause the video, right click the youtube video and pick “copy url at current time.”
Post the clip link in the thread here, and it’ll be added for that phrase or word we need.
If there are a few or more than one that fits, we’ll review them and pick the best.
Phase 3:
If we are missing any sections from the script, we’ll make a special request of Petrea Burchard to record and send us those clips.
Phase 4:
Dagon will gather all the clips, then splice the audio in to replace the dialog in OVA 3.
Phase 5:
Enjoy the remastered edition.

*not sure what all the ‘reserved’ posts mean, but anyways I’d love to get in on this, but a few questions if I may:
For phase one, JGZinv will be recording all of Ryoko’s oav3 lines? As in Mona’s lines? Other than as reference and for writing a script, is there a need for this? What I mean is, would the rest of us that are collecting sound clips of the real Ryoko use Mona’s lines as reference along with JGZ’s script to search for corresponding material? (I may have answered my own question there)
Phase two seems outlined clearly enough. I think this would be the most efficient way to go about it, but can I ask if there is a contingency for the possibility that for a particular line(s) none of us volunteers are able to find anything close enough as a match? In that scenario, would we just go with the closest match we can get? Or re-write the script? Perhaps I’ll let you gents worry about that
😳 Phase Three: That will be time consuming! lol best of luck Dagon, I’m sure you can handle it! & with you already having the OST on hand, it would be most efficient for you to handle it anyways (I don’t have the most state-of-the-art equipment, but if you’re audio format is mp3 and you feel I would be useful in any way for youtube/mp3 conversions or splicing, I’ll gladly pitch in)
Phase Four: I suppose it can’t hurt to ask, but…even if she herself is willing, I don’t know if there are certain factors due to the fact that she’s a professional that would prevent her from volunteering her efforts. We should reserve this as a last resort (though obviously, in a perfect world I’d just hire her to re-do all the lines lol)

Indeed, lol you answered your own question, the script and the clips together make it considerably easier to find a clip, the script to hear whats being said and to who, and the clip itself to hear the emotion and so forth behind, making the choice for the replacement easier to pinpoint.

😳 As it stands, once JG is done with the script and clips, I myself am also going to go through and look at clips. But, I think almost all the lines are going to be replaced, so yes, look for essentially the next best thing. That’s not to say if you find something really close not to grab that, but if a slightly less script-strict clip pops up and fits and flows better with the scene, grab that one.

I brought this up with JG because there are 2 clips in particular that I’m almost certain are not going to be findable in what we’ve got (granted Tokyo might surprise me as its the least cataloged thing in my brain from Tenchi BUT, lol) I figured we might be able to get at least 1 of those from her (since its not even a line really) but yes, this is THE very last resort

First off, just want to say a couple things: thanks for getting back to my questions guys! (sorry if they were dumb ones). Now that I’ve got the gameplan in my head, I feel ready to tackle this!!! Also, my apologies, you’re so right LW, Dagon will be hard at work on this, but he’s not the only one (sorry if I implied that). Thanks to everyone involved, especially you Z-man, going through the work of writing up a script and really getting the ball rolling :hero:
As summer classes are just around the corner and I designate time to watch Tenchi, anybody have an idea on how we should all go about it? Would it be best to assign a particular series to a few individuals so we’re moving through series simultaneously, or just have everybody try to comb through everything?

I was wondering that myself how would be best to post material we have. Should we update our own posts as we get material so the materials gathered are sorted by member? Or probably better, have posts be for specific lines, then if people find several possible versions for said line they can all be grouped so you guys can determine the best one?

Every line–even the seemingly random noises she makes–counts! I will continue the search for a better snoring/lip-smacking sample (from oav’s, that’s the series I volunteered for)
