    I’m not sure if you all have seen this yet, but it looks like OVA 4 is slated to be released this Fall:

    The article lists some information about staff updates and casting. Masami Kikuchi, Ai Orikasa, and Haruhi Nanao (from Ai Tenchi Muyo) will be returning to play Tenchi, Ryoko, and Ayeka respectively. Hideki Shirane (scriptwriter for War on Geminar/Isekai no Seikishi) will also return to supervise and write scripts for OVA 4.

    They’ve even chosen an ending theme song: “Shake the DiCE” by Serena Kozuki.

    I’m not entirely sure on an exact release date. One article I read mentioned an October premiere, but on the official website there seems to be a November date displayed: 11/30/2016. Maybe they had to push the release date back? Unfortunately I can’t read Japanese, so I’m not sure. Would it be possible to get a rough translation of the website info?

    Based on the new promo image that has been released, it looks like this series will be a tie in to War on Geminar/Isekai no Seikishi, just as others have speculated. The image features Rea, including what appears to be a younger version of her when she was still on Geminar, as well as Tenchi’s aunt, Minaho.

    Anywho, what are your thoughts? Are you excited that we will be seeing more Tenchi soon…or nah? Tenchismile

      From what I have read to date, it seem that the date of the first episode is set around Nobuyuki’s and Rea’s wedding. One of the candidates for the series’ main villain is Tarant Shrank. Tarant had tried to kidnapped Siena’s family. Tenchi and the gang was able to stop Tarant Shrank.

      Yes, but GXP events would be in the future from OVA 3’s perspective, and possibly OVA 4’s.

      Without a Chousin level intervention, I honestly can’t see Shank of all villans (come on he’s basically a serious version of Seiryo) beat down the Tenchi household. Ryoko alone would jack him up.

      A bright side to this OVA is that we might see some space stuff again, though it might not be center stage as it looks like Rea and Mizuho are going to have roles that affect the plot somehow seeing the art.

      Im with Zinv, it would literally take less that 10 minutes for the Tenchi gang to beat down anyone, maybe 5. The gang is overpowered, though Shank comes from a guild which has studied Royal Tree’s (from the Shin Tenchi novels) and has made technologies of their own. So there might be a challenge, sorta.

      Astronerdboy has an article which features a timeline for the Ryo-Ohki and GXP series. According to the timeline, Nobuyuki marries Rea during the Autumn of 1995. If Tenchi was able to go back to school, he will be in Grade 3. The students who are in Grade 3 of high school are Seniors. Tenchi has been focusing on his studies. The computer which Nobuyuki had given Tenchi is a clue that Tenchi is focusing on his studies. It is likely Washu is one of Tenchi’s tutors.

      Since Tenchi is meeting his Aunt Minaho for the first time in the series, the first episode is going to occur around the date of Nobuyuki’s and Rea’s wedding. When it come to an appearance of Tarant Shrank, there is a strong chance that he will make an appearance. Right now, I considered Tarant Shrank to be candidate for the main villain of OVA 4.

      According to Tenchi Muyo Wkia, Tarant Shrank did come to Earth in order to kidnapped Siena’s family as well as hold them hostage. Tenchi and the gang were able to prevent Shrank from kidnapping Siena’s family. There is a slight clue of the incident in the GXP episode where Ryoko was order to kill Siena.

      If there is an episode where Shrank makes an appearance, he and the members of his crew with Shrank are totally unaware of the power status of Tenchi and the others have.

      I find the new art direction interesting. I was expecting something akin to what we saw in OVA 3, but it seems as if they have decided to go with a more updated, softer approach to the characters. Even though the characters do look slightly off model and stiff, I really like what I see so far. It reminds me a lot of the art style that was used for Tenichi Muyo In Love 2. It’s almost nostalgic, in a way.

      It’s so cool to see that Michie Tomizawa (Sailor Mars!) was chosen to play Mihoshi. I know that wherever she is, Yuko Mizutani would be happy to see the torch passed to her. May she rest in peace.

      I’m surprised to say that I’m really looking forward to seeing OVA 4. I was never a big fan of OVA 3, and while I find some things that are interesting about the direction that Kajishima wants to take the series, I’ve been a little turned off by others (namely the whole kids with Ryo-ohki thing.). But seeing all this makes me excited to see what OVA 4 may have in store! mmhmm1

      TFW…a mini-series primarily funded by a city for tourism purposes actually looks better than an OVA wholly funded by AIC…

      Kinda, though honestly all these characters are pretty much thrown in left and right. I like to see new characters, but most of these are from GXP novels that have not been translated or been in an anime. I feel like these people will get like a 15 second explaination like how Airi and Tennyo were introduced in OVA 3, just a quick intro.

      Though some of these characters like Seto’s new group i can see getting a quick hello and not really being in the story since they are almost just background characters. However the one that would need the indepth explaination the most would be Minami because she appeared in OVA 3 and GXP as an old woman, and now she is suddenly a young fit woman again, no reason yet, just is. OVA 4 is almost going like OVA 3, context is given in the novels and doujins, which is almost left out entirely in the anime. Though there is a way to do a story with light character explainations and be rich in story, i’m just wondering if Kajishima can do it right this time.

      Good or bad, any new people watching Tenchi through OVA 4 is going to be confused about what’s going since some of the characters and story are possibly coming from the GXP novels. Though this might get people get curious enough about Tenchi to watch the previous OVA’s and other related material.

      Since Tennyo looks a lot like her mother, she had to color her hair brown in order not to cause confusion for her brother Tenchi.

      Mizuko Misaki was at Kiyone’s funeral. The color of her eyes were blue in the Onsen image.

      Kasumi Masaki is Taro’s mother.

      What is the date of the event in Ikebukuro? I’m in Japan from the 28/10 to 17/11 (10/28 – 11/17 For you guys in the states), An I really wanna head to it. Though someone said it was on the 4th an I’ll be in Osaka that day. So if I have to I will consider making a day trip back to Tokyo for it unless, they are having multiple events.

      Just wondering, is the forum going to do the eng subs for OVA 4 when it comes out? I know there will be raws and possibly espanol subs (esp subs strangely are usually first up), but will forum members do the eng subs like for Ai ? I know some of the senior members don’t care for 4, but you can only get so far with looking at a raw and it’s tiring going back and forth translating a esp sub. Or is there a official eng sub with release or later on?

      Yeah, all I know is I ain’t doin’ it, and I’m pretty sure none of the homeboys here who worked on Ai will either. Somebody else out there will have to take up that mantle if English subs are so desired.

      It won’t be anyone from here, I think you’d have better chances of walking through hell trying to keep a ice creame cone in a solid state. I can’t seem to find anything through google on a team picking it up, but there’s so many and they are so scattered and independant that that really isn’t saying much.

      If it actually had Jap subs you might be able to OCR translate it, get a script, but you’re still talking about time, man power, and talent we don’t have to throw at it.

      I’ve been across a number of thread which have since died, but the OVA3 consensus is overwhelming that Tenchi now need to be put down to die, so people have no faith in this 4th.

      Even among Amazon JP reviews, people are almost universally surrpised it’s still going and say that harem anime are things of the past.

      So largely…. no not really, but it’s not as though we have a large fanbase to sample survey.

      I am surprised no one seems to care as well. This is a Tenchi forum after all… But it’s cool, at least some of us are still interested in the new works. Over on Useless Tenchi they have a few people with links to the episode (I pm’d someone for one on facebook). So, it’s out, available and I’ve seen it! It’s not bad at all. Had me laughing in a few spots – Mihoshi sounds really good (her and Tokimi are a thing and it’s amazing), there’s enough of my beloved Washu to satisfy me and everyone is so much more relaxed in this, which is an interesting take on it. I’m sure someone will translate to English eventually, but I honestly enjoyed it. It’s nice to hear from everyone again :)

      True, and the OVA sales model appeals to the hardest-of-core:

      5,113 units on debut, 5th for the week. (Still outsells all of Ai combined)

      But my failing memory keeps trying to tell me that Seikishi subs started (and continued) slowly as well. I’ve long since deleted my copies, and the AFC board we discussed it on has been lost to the etherweb, so I can’t confirm or deny these suspicions.

      Episode 2: Secondary and Tertiary getting lots of screen time.

      The one old lady from the onsen, Kiriko’s mom, Taro’s Aunt, mom and Taro himself, and the 3 girls and Kai. Looks like the ladies were having a girl talk and ganging up on Kiriko’s mom for some reason. I actaully heard the Onsen lady mention Jurai, so does that mean she actually knows what Jurai is or know it as something that the ladies and everyone else made up?

      Talking, lots of talking from everyone. Their faces mostly one face so little emotion is shown, just a few moments shown from each characters to break face mold. I understand if they were trying to have a moment, but i just don’t feel that much from the characters.

      The purple hair woman still trying to be a comic relief and still not, no KFC for you.

      Since when did she know? Because if she knew all along then there was no need to hide anything when they visited the Onsen the first time or actually identify Sasami and Ayeka. Of course, she could have been told after when Seto first arrived. But knowing Kajishima, he probably just shove the information in somewhere without really caring for coherence in story. Either that im missing some information in the doujins or GXP novels that i haven’t read because they aren’t translated.

      They didn’t tell him when he was 15 in OVA 1, but i think the fact that the demon released from a cave and the alien girls that drop in and live with him kinda covers it. But still it feels shoved in that everyone outside the Masaki household knows suddenly of aliens in OVA 4.

      OVA 4 should be renamed side filler, there has been nothing going on really. I know alot of people have been saying that and that this is what it was going to be like from the start, but i feel like it deserves a title change to match. I mean any kind of action scenes or drama they try to shove in the next ep will feel awkward and out of place since it’s been just slow and peaceful. I really hope if Kajishima somehow does get another chance to make anime, it will be some other idea for a series and not Tenchi anymore.

      I just watched OVA 4 ep 1 in english subtitles finally, and there’s a bucket of a thing that got thrown in. Among the things that got mentioned in the ova, Yosho was an attention catcher. Ayeka mentioning Yosho survival announced and possibly everyone being of help to re establish position in the royal house was just dropped in. I mean i know this is Kajishima so there is going to be random plot devices and mention of things that are or are not going to be elaborated until another story or doujin.

      Everyone else, including Ryoko, getting involved with the Juraian Royal family hierachy. It feels like this will be a random thing that happens, but i get the feeling Kajishima is trying to connect this further to continue the story. This is his style and i am probably making something from nothing but this is something that caught my eye.

      I feel like this would relate to Pii’s Yosho thread, but this is Kajishima not Hasegawa so it would be discounted.

      Well, finally I’ve seen the first 2 episodes with subtitles.

      And what do we have? Well, SPOILERS FOR ONE THING. You’ve been warned.

      A whole lot of talking going on. AKA: Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki-The InfoDump!

      The setting? Everyone’s gathering for the wedding of Nobuyuki and Rea’s wedding, while Seina is off having his adventures with the GXP. The 3 girls who we see a lot of? They’re all Masaki family members from Earth. Much is made of the longing Minaho Masaki has for her nephew, Tenchi.

      The theme we get throughout is the double lives the members of the Masaki clan lead, and here’s where the casual viewer needs some info:

      WARNING!!!! Taking a shot every time you come upon someone who is related to another character can cause a fatal consumption of alcohol!!!

      Once upon a time there was a dude named Yosho, who had the hots for this chick from a distant planet, named Airi, who likewise had the hots for him, despite problems due to their planets’ rivalry. They met at the Academy. But things were looking bleak for their chances, not even counting that Yosho was betrothed to his half-sister, Aeka. And lo and behold, a pirate named Ryoko attacked Jurai, on the orders of her master, a gent named Kagato. During said attack, Sasami nearly dies, only living by being saved by Tsunami. A teenage Aeka is the only one to put up a fight with a not-ready-yet Ryu-Oh, giving the pirate even more pleasure in tangling with the princess than sex (an unfulfilling exercise for Ryoko at that point; no “Big O” for Ryoko). Yosho arrives, chases off Ryoko…and he takes off after her, realizing it is the perfect chance to get away from this whole marriage mess, though Aeka thinks it’s just to chase after Ryoko, who she blames for Yosho’s disappearance.

      But, surprise, Ryoko flees to Earth, where Yosho has it out with her, winning and imprisoning the pirate, but “stranding” him there. Not interesting in marrying Aeka, and thinking things are over between him and Airi, Yosho falls in love with and marries a girl who nurses him after his fight. Her name is Kasumi. Oh, yeah, Earth…why would that planet be familiar to Yosho? Well, his Dad, Azusa, went to Earth a while back and met this hot babe named Funaho. One thing led to another and they got married with another wife named Misaki. Misaki and Azusa had two daughters, Aeka and Sasami, while Azusa and Funaho had a son, Yosho.

      So what are the odds Kasumi might know about this Funaho person? Pretty darn good, since Funaho is her aunt. So, yes, that’s what I’m saying: Yosho married his cousin.

      And as Syndrome put it in The Incredibles, they “got busy!” The result is you have a bunch of Yosho’s descendants running around medieval Japan.

      After Kasumi dies, Yosho decides to be not-so-stranded, and puts in call to an intergalactic Uber Service that’s run by this really wild MILF named Seto Kamiki. Hmm, oh, yeah, that name. I mean Seto Kamiki Jurai, aka Yosho’s step-grandma, the mother of Lady Misaki and the granny of Aeka and Sasami.

      One thing leads to another and Yosho and Airi hook up and have two daughters, Minaho and Kiyone. Yosho also decides that since health insurance in Japan sucked a few centuries back, that upon reaching a certain age, the descendants of he and Kasumi got to go to space and visit a dentist for the first time.

      At some point, daughter Kiyone Masaki met Nobuyuki Masaki, a descendant of Yosho and Kasumi and they started knocking boots and had two kids, a daughter named Tennyo, who is now about 80, and a son, Tenchi Masaki.

      And they all had incest happily ever after. The End.

      So what we learn is that everyone in Masaki village is related to everyone, and that they all “know” the family secret.

      The old onsen lady? Yep, she knows. Taro’s mother? Yep, she knows. Kiriko’s mother? Yep, well, duh…

      More fun info:

      – Basically everyone in Masaki village will likely become Juraian royalty once Yosho’s surivial secret comes out.

      – Seina has a shot at a mother-daughter threesome, as episode 2 reveals that not only does Kiriko have the hots for Seina, but so does her Mom (this all takes place prior to the end of GXP and Seina’s 4-way marriage that later becomes an 8-way marriage).

      – Minaho has the hots for her nephew, Tenchi, and is yet another prospective harem member. We’ll see where this goes throughout the OVA, as it could be that she sees in him her lost sister, or since Seto’s been scaring everyone off through her marriage meeting attempts, her own desire for family. But since this is Kajishima we’re talking about, I lean towards harem, and a full time mother figure for the harem.

      – Like father like male descendant: Yosho isn’t the only one in disguise. It turns out Nobuyuki is also disguising his appearance. Apparently he looks like he’s in his 20s. Remember, he’s old enough to have a daughter, Tennyo, who is in her 80s.

      – Kai goes on a class trip, without condoms, but with some spending money.

      – Minaho spends the night with Tenchi (and Ryo-Ohki) where she lets him know of a future possibility: That the Masaki clan might have to leave Earth. It’s actually a really solid point, since they’re not supposed to be there. Earth is not yet a developed planet, and isn’t supposed to have it’s development interfered with by aliens, including the knowledge of aliens. It’s getting harder to hide with the advances in technology, including all the members of the Masaki clan who’ve gone to the Academy and have had body strengthening. He’s told how Seina underwent that. So he’s given that to chew on, although no worries; Washu says she’ll just bring along everything to Jurai, which relieves Ryoko.

      – Both Sasami and Aeka kick Tenchi’s butt in sparring. During the bath sequence Minaho talks with Tenchi about his training, and he says he’s never been able to beat either of the two girls.

      More random thoughts:

      It’s an OVA, it’s bathtime, and no nipples to show by Minaho. 1990s Kajishima would be ashamed of his older self.

      The character designs were…bleh. I think we’re looking at a way too small budget here.

      The time setting on here is well before episode 17 of GXP. Rea and Nobu aren’t yet married, while Ep. 17 shows a visibly pregnant Rea. Even if the two got an early start on Kenshi Masaki, she’s still months away from looking like we see in ep. 17.

      I felt that ep. 1 was easily the worst OVA episode to date. It was disjointed, with no decent introduction of any of the cast, especially the 3 new girls.

      Ep. 2 was better, actually touching on some logical problems that would go with hiding an alien clan on Earth, with those problems getting tougher in the years to come.

      It looks like this 4th OVA is really meant for the hardcore faithful (even more than OVA 3!). I pity anyone taking this in for the first time, as you really need to see the previous 3 OVA and GXP to make any sense of what’s going on here. So far it’s all info dump and back filler info, essentially putting onscreen much of the info that’s gone into years of the Kamidake Onsen doujinshis that Kajishima has been putting out. Which is fine, but this OVA is looking to be like Seinfeld – A show about nothing. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

      Love to see you around Beagle, but I’d have to say most of what you list, is the reason this board, and our board, and every previous board fell slowly apart, besides the trolls…. Kajishima’s story just isn’t interesting anymore, it’s a ton of incest and politics. To what end is what everyone keeps asking… and how they don’t have genetic defects is anyone’s guess. Maybe the god aura purifies the whole thing.

      The only bit all this solves, is the 21st century dojin, where they have left earth. This ventures to explain why, they are being found out by the rest of the world.

      Always good to pop in from time to time. As for the incest, well, the Kiyo facepalm wasn’t just for the incest: It also was for all those who objected to Tenchi and Aeka hooking up because of their relationship.

      As to the fading of this community: I disagree. There’s been nothing new to legally hit the West since Geminar, which came out in 2009-2010, with nothing new on the OVA side of things since 2006. And when we finally get something new in Ai, it turns out to be from some sort of Universe spinoff, and the 4th OVA is, so far, more treading water. That’s what’s killing it here, save for the hardcore faithful: It’s not bringing in new fans.

      But fans of what? The argument can and has been made that current Tenchi and TU/OVA1+2/Tokyo bear little resemblance to each other. That shift point is clearly GXP which was more in our era.

      Is it “Tenchi” simply because the original creator signs off on it, or because of the name? Or is it a veneer? Does it stand up to the litmus test? If a content “extension” doesn’t fall in line with the original works, consumers are understandably going to have some form of knee jerk reaction to it. People swallowed Pretty Sammy easier than this, and it was rightfully it’s complete own spin off. If AIC had come out and merged Sammy into the OVA, so we had 2 Sasamis and Ryo-Ohkis, it probably wouldn’t have been met warmly.

      I had this problem with AI, which if you actually go and look at the posts here while it was coming out, there were criticisms of it. Post AI, badmouthing it was basically not tolerated. The same can be said of any of any Tenchi branded series, GXP being the glaring start point, although Tokyo could be a candidate, but to a much lesser degree. It’s divisive to the community, eventually you get the likes and don’t likes in their own groups and shots are fired, till you have people that can’t see eye to eye anymore.

      Even among those that were here, the last bastion. Over the matter of the OVA continuation and his doujins, the fan community shattered. Particularly with niche series, and harem is now a niche, it’s hard to get the word out if a major release is made to the target audience. With no community hub, that just makes it all the harder. So here we are.

      Granted, to your point, Tenchi got noticed when the bumper for OVA3 ran on Toonami. But the resounding reply by those that “had” seen OVA3 already was “not my Tenchi.”
