So, as we all know, Ai Tenchi Muyo! is being partially financed by the city of Takahashi as a means to promote tourism and anime pilgrimages. This thread will be a place to list and discuss any and all real life locations that may appear in the anime. Get your trip planners ready kiddies, we’re going on a field trip! The first real world location to report on was mentioned in today’s episode (ep. 5), and is the
.Okayama Korakuenhttp://www.japan-guide.com/g2/5700_03.jpg" /> This is a traditional Japanese garden located in Okayama, and is considered one of the very best examples in the entire country. Known for its large variety of flowers and the cranes that take up residence in the garden, it is one of the premiere relaxation and nature spots in Okayama.

The second real world location name dropped in Ai Tenchi Muyo! came in yesterday’s episode, and was in reference to the .Bichyuu Matsuyama CastleLocated in good ol’ Takahashi city itself, the castle is notable for being one of only twelve remaining original castles in Japan, and being the highest above sea-level.

The third real world location referenced in Ai Tenchi Muyo came in today’s episode, and is , in Akaiwa City, Okayama Prefecture. This is a peach resort where visitors can arrange aTomomi-en ! The resort is renowned for its white peaches, an Okayama signature fruit called a Hakutou.peach picking tourhttp://www.hakutou.jp/peach-picking/images/bg_wrapper.jpg " /> -

I should be quick to point out that several characters (old and new) are named after landmarks in the Okayama Prefecture. -

Indeed, its good to see the tradition being carried on! Stay tuned for more real world locations as they come in!

Great find, Susano! Kibi International University does indeed bear a striking resemblance to Junai Academy!

couldhave been the model for the fictional Junai Academy. Don’t agree? Feel free to sound off below! -

It could very possibly be intended to be that building (seeing as this IS a show about Takahashi), but overheads of both campuses show drastically different featuresets. http://i.minus.com/iLpJAwGZf08I5.jpg" /> The only similarities between the two campuses are green roofing on part of the campus and the inclusion of a suspended walkway. They may be going for a romanticized, “this is this campus in the future” version since they have robots and all.

So in Episode 51 (Episode 41 revised numbering) the UN tries to coverup the existence of the GP headquarters by telling the world that a Russian satellite is falling from orbit. http://i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w609/Why_Crazed/Tenchi/RocketLauncherSpaceMagic2_zps96e01611.png" /> Unfortunately, that’s no satellite…
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Linked%20Images/57205559_zps831f704d.jpg" /> Not just any space station either, but an honest to goodness Real Life space station! In this case, the real world location is the Soviet/Russian space station Mir (Russian for “Peace”).
http://pedagogie.ac-toulouse.fr/eco-primaire-viollet-le-duc-toulouse/Les_images/image002.jpg " /> De-orbited in 2001, Mir was the first outer space construction project, and an iconic achievement of manned space exploration. Instead of falling on Takahashi city, however, Mir safely broke up over the sparsely populated Australian outback. It’s unconfirmed if any man-eating spiders, insanely venomous toads, or deadly box jellyfish were injured by falling debris.

And Doc Brown. 😆 Though seriously the UN knows about the GP presence and fools everyone by trying to say it’s really
MIR? I guess in the Tenchiverse that MIR didn’t crash in 2001 then. That raises a question how much
do the Earth’s leaders know what’s really going on in the Tenchiverse and when did they know it?
Or is it just the GP HQ that they’re aware of?

Or are they just typical politicians, that don’t know zilch, as usual. Given current world policy, wouldn’t be surprised this all is an semi-indictment against politicians. Japan sure doesn’t seem to have a popular crop going on over there, as of current. -

The old school building is based on the Fukiya Elementary School in Fukiya Bengara Village. Fukiya Bengara Village was an old copper mine village located in Takahashi City, Japan. It is one of Japan’s remaining Edo-period villages. Check the Takahashi City wiki voyage site or one of the other Takahashi City travel sites. -

For now, we know that all things like the Shinto Shrine are in Okayama Perfecture (duh), in the Kurashiki District.
This site in regularly updated, stay tuned.

blush1 I am using this quote to describe where the real life location of the fictional Masaki Shrine is. The real life location for Tenchi’s house and the Shrine is site 5. Site 5 is basically a large hill.
Takahashi Japan has been using AI: TENCHI MUYO as a way to promote tourism. Takahashi does seem to have a lot of great tourist sites including Bitchu Matsuyama Castle and Fukiya Fursato Village.
If there was a real life Masaki Shrine, it will likely be a pilgrimage site. in all of the Tenchi series, the Masaki Shrine is still an active place of worship. Its location makes it a great pilgrimage site. Add the nature preserve and the woods, hiking is part of the pilgrimage experience. The exact number of the Kami at the Masaki Shrine unknown. I can suspect that three of the kami are the Chousin Goddesses.
When I look at Google Earth’s map of Takahashi, there turns out to be a lot of potential site for the Masaki Shrine. One of the potential sites must be near Hokoku Station.
I didn’t forget that the design of the Masaki Shrine was expired by a real life shrine. Strangely, the real life shrine’s location is southwest of Kurashiki City Japan. The Fictional Masaki is supposed to be located northwest of Kurashiki.
-
- August 21, 2015 at 5:22 PM
They probably changed the direction of the shrine’s location as to not confuse it with the actual shrine. Were you talking about the Masaki shrine or the real one when you mentioned the animal preserve?

The cave collapsed on no one, and hopefully does not detour sightseers or shrine goers. Though it might be awhile before they can fully remove the collapsed piece.

I was referring to both shrines. I have temporary forgotten the name the real shine whom Masaki Kajishima had used as the basis of the design of the fictional Masaki Shrine. I will like state that I have forgotten which city where the real shrine is located. The fictional Masaki Shrine is located on the fictional large nature preserve which I have been referring to.
Takahashi City seems to be the best location for the fictional Masaki Shrine. As a result of Seina taking what seems to be a bicycle and hiking trail as a shortcut to Kiriko’s house, the nature preserve where both Tenchi’s house and the Masaki Shrine are located is slightly outside the town located near it.
-
- September 2, 2015 at 5:40 PM
That would explain why there were wolves and raccoon dogs living near the Masaki Shrine as seen in The Sasami Stories. And what happened there at Ryoko’s cave? Was it an earthquake or something else?

Agaguchi Japan’s Tarojinja Shrine is the shrine which the design of the Masaki family Shrine is based on. The grounds and buildings in the anime are almost identical to the Tarojinga’s existing structures. The exact location of the fictional Masaki Family Shrine is northwest of Kurashiki City. It is starting to turn out that the Masaki Shrine may be located in a part of Takahashi City Japan. The Shrine’s chief priest is grateful of the many fans of Tenchi Muyo who decided to help in the upkeep of the Tarojinga Shrine.
