Due to a previous community (TenchiHate) suddenly folding, which was due to Japanese publishers of the novels – we do not wish to have official publications (ie. novels) attempted to be translated. Please refrain from listing those here. It’s simply a precaution for the entirety of the board. If you wish to try translating such items, please do it somewhere off forum.
To better describe this – I mean no official, in-print novel publication still being produced by a company. For instance, the Tenchi Novels would be off limits, while the 101, doujinshi, or comics should be fine to work on. Either way please keep in mind all other rules of TenchiForum still apply here.
Typically translation is best accomplished by scanning or acquiring images of the written text, and using OCR software to rip the text off a page so it can be run through a online translation tool. Afterwards you can have a person that knows some Japanese smooth out the text so it is easier to understand. If there’s members with graphics talents, they can then convert the original image over to English resulting in a complete “scanlation.”
Do not post source images in this section that either do not have work being done on them – or in some way do not aid to the translation effort. This is not a “fan gallery.” You should be willing to help work on an item in some way if you list it – unless a scan/image is requested of you since you alone have access to the materials.There are many different ways you can help:
Image Archivist:Has lots of scans or images on hand ready for OCR or editing.
Image Editor:Can manipulate and/or resize images or graphics.
OCR Processor:Rips text off pages – may proofread it (match text with original symbols).
OCR Proofreader:Helps speed up the Processor by doing the symbol matching for him/her.
Machine Translator:Takes the results from the Proofreader/Processor and translates via online conversion site – posts the resulting text.
Human Translator:
Has the knowledge to help smooth out the machine translation into something easier to read.

on a web page in order to convert it, so the easiest bet is to post it,
translate the thread URL, then update the post.

Thread titles should say something specific relating
to the source image for identification. Subtitles should
reflect the status of that piece. Such as…
“Placeholder”
For when a piece is just being started on but you want to
have a section set aside for it.
“In Progress”
Being worked on but not in any particular category.
“Editing – Other”
Needs some sort of text or image editing before it can move forward.
“Needs Clarity Editing”
This will need a person that knows Japanese or a dedicated
effort to ‘Americanize’ the text into something more understandable.
“Final Conversion”
Editing the original image to reflect new finalized text and/or effects.
“Complete”
All finished (yay!
