I’d say I’m looking forward to any new Tenchi projects, but with OAV3, a slew of spinoffs with none of the characters and a Porno, I can shamefully say I’ve given up on Tenchi -

Well, I take your point. GXP was alright and pretty funny
and SKT was a good concept, except it was suppose to be a Tenchi spinoff.
Alright, I’ll give Kajishima one more chance. But I personally am not getting my hopes up.

*Yeah, I know, not anime, but thread does say showsyou’re looking forward to… Avatar: The Legend of Korra
If you’re haven’t heard anything about this series (which is a difficult feat, I’m impressed) it’s a continuation of the series “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” I’ve yet to meet anyone that didn’t like the first series (if you haven’t seen it, I totally recommend it) so I’m excited for this new series.
The first series was proof that there’s still good, original series to be made for American youth on tv (albeit not in numerous quantities) & I always saw the series as the closest analogue to what I’ve heard some refer to as “American Anime.” If you see the artwork, animation style, it’s very obvious there are little nuances here & there that are undoubtedly inspired by anime, & it’s targeted audience is close to what anime’s intended audience often is: teens & young adults (though first Airbender was also slightly geared to even younger audiences, being on Nickelodeon, but still enjoyable by older viewers) -

The distributor TOHO will release the Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki(The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki) film in Japan next July. The theme of the film is the love between parents and children. The story covers 13 years and begins with a 19-year-old college student named Hana who encounters and falls in “fairy tale-like” love with a “wolf man.” After marrying the wolf man, Hana gives birth and raises two wolf children — an older sister named Yuki (“snow”) who was born on a snowy day, and a younger brother named Ame (“rain”) who was born on a rainy day.
The four quietly lived in a corner of a city to conceal the fact that the children are “wolf children.” However, when the wolf man suddenly dies, Hana decides to move to a rural town far removed from the city.
Hosoda is credited as the creator, screenwriter, and director. Studio Chizu is a small new anime studio that Hosoda established specifically for the production of this film, although the anime studio MADHOUSE is also credited.
Satoko Okudera is co-writing the screenplay, and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto is designing the characters. Takaaki Yamashita is overseeing the animation process, while Hiroshi Ohno is in charge of art direction. Seiji Okuda is an executive producer of the film for NTV, after having served the same role for many Studio Ghibli works. -

}: The basic story of Yamato 2199 is the same as the first Yamato anime set in 2199, but Yutaka Izubuchi (RahXephon), the 52-year-old animator who worked on mechanical designs and science-fiction concepts on some of the earlier projects in the franchise, is serving as chief director. Yoshinobu Nishizaki, the late producer of the franchise, is credited with the original story. Nobuteru Yuki (Escaflowne, Record of Lodoss War) is designing the characters, and the anime studios XEBEC and AIC are producing the anime. Mechanical designer Makoto Kobayashi (Giant Robo, Last Exile, Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection) revealed at Anime Expo in July that he is working on a Yamato remake for next year.ANN -

It will be interesting to see how well it does in the end. Ok thoughts on the following please:
Blood-C good or just a mediocre revision of the Blood,the Last Vampire/Blood+ saga?
Girls,I Am Your Father,worth it even just for the Haruhi lookalikes or run of the mill?
Is This A Zombie,hysterical take off of Magic Girl/Zombie shows or total meh?
Finally,I forget it’s title but is the anime featuring the dead girl that still haunts her school and becomes part of
a occult chasing club and friends with the main protagonist good or pointlessly bad?(Wish I knew what it was and could
give a more accurate description all I know is that it has a dead girl in it.)

Blood-C good: better graphics/gore, ok story, you watch it for the new girl…
Girls,I Am Your Father=Papa no Iu Koto wo Kikinasai!): never seen Harui there, so-so story, cute girls but nothing else not worth it
This A Zombie=Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? (2 seasons): Wanna ebil magical girl Kyoko!, Zombie, Ninja-Vampire, cross-dressing magical girl guy, etc. Jokes all around about those “fanciness”. Wanna have an ebil funny mean laugh that hurts? Wanna see things no other show would seriously show? You got it. Otherwise not much of a story.
Tasogare Otome x Amnesia: ecchi ghost love story, so-so stories, slow, likely not worth it.

From my point of view they are similar in my rating, though. Blood-C just has a bit more quality.
No. It’s a remake (my guess) of her as well as *SPOILER*
another personality. I consider it an alternative universe taking place sometime around our era due to the involvement of another(?) organization.

As to the “War on Geminar” part, the best we can come up with is that it is more “exciting” than Saint Knight’s Tale and is much more pronounceable than Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari :Cheeks:

The show translated as “The Great Demon King in the Back row” which is a bit too long and doesn’t roll off the tongue, so they changed it to Demon King Daimao, which despite being redundant, sounds much better and more inviting to an audience that doesn’t use whole sentences as a shows name, also keep in mind, even though the main characters name is something else “Daimao” could be a name
I think War on Geminar is probably the most different one I’ve heard in awhile

Not sure they’re going to be able to do it justice in just a movie though… too much backstory to have to cover.
Don’t sweat the little details…
The story begins in 2013 when skycrapers in London, Moscow, Berlin, and New York are destroyed by simultaneous bombings. The indiscriminate terrorism by an unknown group with unknown motives sets off widespread panic throughout the world.
There was once a group of nine cyborg fighters who rescued humanity from threats, but they had disbanded to their home countries. Now the man who created them, Dr. Gilmore, has summoned and assembled them back together again. However, the 00 Number Cyborgs’ former leader, a Japanese man named Joe Shimamura (Mamoru Miyano), is now living alone in Tokyo’s Roppongi with his past memories erased.

The North American anime licensing company Maiden Japan announced on Tuesday that it has licensed the Patlabor video anime series. Maiden Japan will release the series in conjunction with the home video distribution company Section23 Films. The companies will release the seven-episode series on bilingual DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The companies will also release the series digitally.
The series revolves around the motley crew of Japan’s Section 2, Division 2, which is comprised of police officers who are well versed in both law and robotics. Members Noa Izumi and Isao Ohta pilot the giant “Labor” robots to bring down those who would use Labors to commit crimes. Central Park Media originally released the series in North America on DVD in 2003.

The North American anime distributor and retailer Right Stuf, Inc. announced on Tuesday that it has licensed the Space Adventure Cobra television anime series. Right Stuf and Nozomi Entertainment will release the series in two DVD sets starting in late 2013. The companies will also release the series digitally. Right Stuf’s release will mark the first time the 1982-1983 series will be released in North America.
Right Stuf is also taking questions for original creator Buichi Terasawa on the series’ official website until February 15.
The 31-episode anime adapts Terasawa’s 18-volume science-fiction manga series, which ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1978 to 1984. The series tells the adventures of a space pirate and his female android partner. Osamu Dezaki (The Rose of Versailles, Golgo 13, Black Jack) directed the series at Tokyo Movie Shinsha.

Toei announced on Thursday that its film remake of Leiji Matsumoto’s Space Pirate Captain Harlock
Toei Animation first announced in 2010 that it made a pilot for a computer-graphics remake, and it presented the pilot at Tokyo International Anime Fair that year. It then presented a preview at France’s Annecy, the world’s largest animation film festival, in 2011.
Writer Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC novels, live-action Bōkoku no Aegis) reconstructed the story to reflect the themes of modern society, and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) is directing with the latest filmmaking technology. According to the news source Oricon, this film has Toei Animation’s highest production budget ever at the equivalent of over 30 million U.S. dollars.
Toei Animation had initially planned to release the 3D remakes of Space Pirate Captain Harlock and its robot anime series Daikuu Maryuu Gaiking in 2012.

CoMix Wave describes the story:
“We have met, for each of us to walk forward.
Takao, who is training to become a shoemaker, skipped school and is sketching shoes in a Japanese-style garden. He meets a mysterious woman, Yukino, who is older than him. Then, without arranging the times, the two start to see each other again and again, but only on rainy days. They deepen their relationship and open up to each other. But the end of the rainy season soon approaches …”
Kenichi Tsuchiya is designing the characters and overseeing the animation process. Hiroshi Takiguchi is serving as the art director, and KASHIWA Daisuke is composing the music. Miyu Irino and Kana Hanazawa headline the cast as Takao and Yukino, respectively. Motohiro Hata contributes the theme song “Rain” with lyrics and music by Senri Oe.
Shinkai previously wrote that The Garden of Words will be his first story about love in the traditional Japanese meaning of the word. Originally, “love” was written as “lonely sadness” (koi), and, according to Shinkai, the modern concept of “love” (ai) was imported from the West. While his new film is set in the modern era, it will be about koi in the original “lonely sadness” meaning — of longing for someone in solitude.
The film will open on May 31. Midori Motohashi is adapting the film into a manga in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine starting in April.

The lead character Dandy is an alien hunter and the “dandiest man in space.” The anime is set far in the future where people have gone to the far reaches of the universe. Dandy is searching for aliens that no one has found before with his robot partner QT. Watanabe said Dandy bought the robot thinking it was an R2D2-like robot, but in reality “it was a Roomba.” Dandy also travels with a cat alien named Meow. Watanabe showed designs for different aliens, which will be introduced in the series each week.

While I enjoyed the UBW movie, the least DEEN could have done was given us a Rin X Shirou kiss scene. Hell, Shirou and Rin seemed closer in the first anime. With Fate/Zero being considered a seinen series, maybe ufotable will be more faithful to the VN. It’s not like scenes need to be specifically shown, but that would be the day…
At the end of the day, Rin is undeniably the best character, and deserves to be paired with Shirou in a full-fledged anime series.

Here’s my current list of shows I plan to watch:
Must-watch titles:
– Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works Season 2
– Food Wars
– Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon?
– Punch Line (Ever17, 999, Virtue’s Last Reward VN/adventure game writer)
Titles I’ll definitely try out, but aren’t ones I’m super-excited for per-se:
– Blood Blockade Battlefront (Yasuhiro Nightow series. Ai Orikasa has a voice role)
– The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan
– Denpa Kyoshi – He is an Ultimate Teacher
– Ninja Slayer: The Animation (it’s not an original series, but the adaptation is being handled by Trigger)
– Plastic Memories (Steins;Gate VN writer)
– Labyrinth/Eden of Grisaia
Not a priority, but caught my eye for one reason or another. Might end up trying some of them out:
– Digimon Adventure Tri
– Heroic Legend of Arslan (Hiromu Arakawa series)
– Rin-ne (Rumiko Takahashi series)
– Seraph of the End (Premise seems interesting)
– Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches
And last but not least, my two continuing simulcasts:
– Assassination Classroom
– Durarara!! x2 (The simul-dub, which is lagging several episodes behind the JP eps)
As always, early reviews from places like ANN’s Preview Guide may sell me on a few more shows (and vice-versa, of course) or get me more excited for the ones I listed as not being a priority right now.

The official website of the late manga creator Shotaro Ishinomori announced on Tuesday that director Jun Kawagoe is helming a new Cyborg 009 anime project. The project celebrates the 50th anniversary since Ishinomori’s original Cyborg 009 manga was first serialized in 1964.
Jun Kawagoe previously directed the 52-episode Cyborg 009 The Cyborg Soldier television anime series, which began in 2001 and ended in 2002. Ishinomori’s official website teases:
“2015. The battles of the 00-numbered cyborgs will continue.”

LWA Production reportPosted by Studio TRIGGER
Hello everyone!
With our new animation series Ninja Slayer starting later this week, work here at the studio has been quite busy. The fact that we made an excursion last week to attend Anime Matsuri to have a TRIGGER panel did not really help with the schedule for LWA either… Sorry! We thought we would be finished by spring initially… However, I do believe that the director received the much needed break, and the opportunity to get in touch with his fans resulted in a refreshing experience.
Okay, so enough with the excuses, since we made a visit to Anime Matsuri to hold a LWA panel, I thought it would only be fair if I shared the same contents with our backers as well! (New clips are available at the end of the film)

The anime film will premiere at Anime Expo on July 3.
Studio Trigger also posted an update on Thursday to reveal that for backers who cannot attend Anime Expo, Studio Trigger will “provide the digital contents as the premiere starts so all of [its] backers will be able to enjoy the episode at the same time.”
Additionally, the company noted that it is expecting to have physical copies of the rewards shipped out in August. Trigger also previewed images of backer rewards such as the T-shirt, desk mat, metal bookmark rewards for US$200 backers, and the canvas print for US$1,000 backers.

Ushio and Tora is a show caught my interest back when it was first announced, because I love it when modern remakes/adaptations of old anime/manga retain the retro character designs. After seeing this trailer and hearing the premise, this quickly shot up to be one of my most anticipated shows of the summer season.
The beginning even vaguely resembles Tenchi Muyo.
Here’s what it’s about, in a nutshell:
Our protagonist is Ushio, who is the son of a priest and lives at a shrine. He discovers an ancient demon sealed away in the shrine’s basement, pierced by a holy spear. The kid isn’t stupid though, and realizes pulling the spear out would be a very, very bad idea, and just leaves him there. But the damage was already done. Just by opening the door, he let out the demon’s scent, which starts attracting other demons to his town who begin attacking people and destroying things.
Realizing he has no other options, he strikes a deal with the demon in the basement. Freedom in exchange for destroying the other demons and saving the town. The demon agrees and Ushio pulls the spear out, but surprise, surprise, the demon had no intention of keeping his word and tries to kill him. But wait! The spear grants Ushio powers and transforms him into a superhuman/demon hyrbrid. Realizing that this was the same power that his original captor used to seal him away, and not wanting to be trapped in that basement again, the demon begrudgingly keeps his word and saves the town. Because he eventually kept his word Ushio doesn’t want to kill him, but also realizes that he can’t be trusted to not, y’know, be evil and kill people without the threat of being sealed away again looming over his shoulder.
And so begins the odd partnership of Ushio and the demon, Tora, as they travel Japan together slaying demons, with Ushio constantly keeping a close eye on Tora’s actions, while Tora patiently waits for Ushio to drop his guard so he can kill and eat him.

For the UBW dub they seem to have brought back 95% of the cast from Zero with a few holdovers from the DEEN anime, so I’m mildly disappointed that Sam Regal and Liam O’Brian didn’t return as Shirou and Archer respectively. I don’t dislike Bryce Papenbrook and Kaiji Tang, but they just don’t sound right to me. I may have to settle for the DVDs if I don’t find the dub up to snuff, since that would be one of my main reasons for buying the show.
Tony Oliver returning as Lancer is nice though (not to mention, he’s also the ADR director).
~~~
Anyways, here’s the current simulcast round-up.
FUNi’s license blowout from last week. They still have two more shows left to announce at their AX panel as well.
Aniplex’s schedule and streaming locations for their handful of new shows. Most are available at all the usual sites, except God Eater which seems to be Daisuki exclusive
Sentai announced a few titles at AX, three of which ( Gate, Ushio & Tora, Wakaba Girls) are already confirmed for Crunchy. The rest will probably follow.
Here’s the promotional trailer for the newly-announced Dimension W, based on the manga by Yuji Iwahara (Darker Than Black’s character designer, creator of the original King of Thorn manga). FUNi is on the production committee.
While my current list is just as big, there are slightly fewer titles that REALLY catch my eye beyond superficial curiosity than last season, which had almost too many to handle. Mecha dominates in sheer numbers this season, while comedies were the cream of the crop for me last time. I’m curious to see if that’ll be the Mecha shows this time around.
Must-watch:
– Comet Lucifer (Original mecha/fantasy/sci-fi mish-mash with a rather interesting plot.)
– Concrete Revolutio (An original anime from Bones and the creative team behind the FMA anime? Yes, please.)
– Heavy Object (Mecha warfare with the character designer of one of my personal favorite game series, Ar Tonelico. I’m sold.)
– Lupin the Third (I don’t love Lupin, but it is always a fun watch. The latest series seems quite interesting, what with it being set, and even premiering, in Italy.)
– Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (It’s fricking Gundam. I do love me some giant robots.)
– One Punch Man (I know little about this Shonen Jump series, but I love the artwork and the trailers make it look really fun.)
Probably going to watch:
– A Corpse is Buried Under Sakurako’s Feet (Mystery. Sounds really interesting. I feel like this one might end up a fan favorite of the season.)
– Komori-san Can’t Decline (Short-form comedy. Premise sounds amusing. Nice character designs.)
– Ore ga Ojō-sama Gakkō ni “Shomin Sample” Toshite Gets-rareta Ken (Gosh that was a mouthful of a title. “Guy at a girl’s school” premise has been done many times before, but this one seems to put some amusing twists on the forumla.)
– Perfect Insider (I won’t say no to more mystery. Especially a murder mystery.)
Might check out:
– AntiMagic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon (Don’t know much about this one. Designs and premise sound interesting.)
– Asterisk War (Don’t know much about this one either. Designs and premise also seem interesting.)
– Attack on Titan: Junior High (Eh, I don’t care for Titan very much, but if this comedy spinoff is decent I’ll give it a shot, though I’d prefer to do it dubbed.)
– Garo: Guren no Tsuki (More of a spiritual successor to the previous Garo anime than a sequel. I didn’t stick with the other one long, but since this one seems to be standalone I’ll give it a shot.)
– Kyoufu! Zombie Neko (Short-form comedy about a zombie cat. Sounds really funny.)
– Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid (Action game/anime series from the creator of Senran Kagura. It also has yuri up the wazoo. If it’s halfway decent like SK I’ll give it a shot, but if it’s just fanservice-heavy cheesecake yuri then count me out.)
And last but not least, on-going shows:
-GATE (Whenever I get around to catching up on it, that is.)
-Ushio & Tora (This quickly became one of my favorites from the Summer season. There’s no way I’m dropping it.)
Current total: 18 shows. 16 new and 2 continuing from last season.
I suppose they do have similar hair styles.
Why would the machine implode though? I don’t get why having a comically large number of guns = machine going boom. Guns can get jammed, but they don’t implode (or explode, for that matter).
So what’sComet Luciferabout?
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure.
To sum it up, it takes place on the planet Gift. The protagonist, Sogo Amagi, lives in a prosperous mining town that mines a blue ore known as giftium. Sogo gets involved in a dispute between his classmates that leads to him discovering an underground lake in an old mine. There, he meets a mysterious girl with blue hair and red eyes. “This fateful meeting is the start of a new adventure!”
Yes, the official synopsis really is that vague. The story doesn’t really stand out so much (yet, at least), but what really caught my attention is the setting. A sci-fi mining colony sounds pretty interesting and is something that hasn’t been done to death in anime yet.
Based on this promotional art, it’s also a mecha series apparently, which is a plus in my book.
Random Anime Suggestion for September:
Breaking from tradition here, instead of one series, I’d like to just touch on some of the series coming out this fall. You can find a list with quite a lot of information here on all the fall shows: http://anichart.net/fall
Heavy Object:
Mainly catering to the mecha crowd, this does have some potential to go a more drama route and be less Gundam and more “super tank.” So it might have a chance.
Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans:
Nuclear Gundam blah blah blah, good guys, bad guys, and explosions. The rest saw their better Mr. Roger’s Gundam in a blood stained alloy sweater. Gundam is pretty played out at this point. The appeal here however is that the team making this Gundam, is composed of people that worked on Toradora! and Anohana. That has to count for something, so it might be worth a watch of the first couple episodes.
Garo: Guren no Tsuki:
Unlike the first Garo anime, this series will be a jidaigeki (period drama) set in the Heian period. It will have a female protagonist.
Old “wild west” of Japan, channeling a bit of Karas the Animation and Rurouni Kenshin, with some funky color palette work.
Lupin III – L’avventura Italiana:
New TV series of Lupin, not much that needs to be said here. Hopefully more tame than the semi-recent Fujiko Mine series.
Itoshi no Muco:
The happy daily life of Muco, a not-too-bright Akita dog, and his owner Komatsu-san the glass-blower.
It’s a slice of life comedy with a Doge dog, somehow the Internet “will”
Digimon Adventure tri. 1: Saikai:
The original Digimon cast returns as late teens in this part 1 of 6 movie.
So who has their digivice and movie soundtrack at the ready?
Other honorable mentions in the OVA/movie category:
Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova – Cadenza
Spin off of the Arpeggio of Blue Steel series.
Girls und Panzer Movie:
Direct sequel to GuP, which is heavily infulenced by World of Tanks.
Durarara!!x2 Ten: Onoroke Chakapoko:
Covers the shocking incident that occurs during Celty and Shinra’s romantic trip together.
Shisha no Teikoku:
The story of The Empire of Corpses takes place in 19th century Europe, and revolves around John Watson. He is scouted by the government to become a secret agent- However, Watson lives in a world where “Frankensteins”- human corpses that are re-purposed with a false soul in order to use them as laborers- are used to improve industrial development.
So the industrial revolution powered by super zombies, what could go wrong right? Steamboy + zombies? Steam zombies? It could happen.
Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works 2nd Season – sunny day:
The short adapts “sunny day,” an alternate “good” ending to the “Unlimited Blade Works” route from the original Fate/stay night game.
2016 is almost upon us, which means another season of anime is on the horizon. What (if anything) are you going to watch?
~~~
Here’s what catches my attention. Looking through the lists, there were a lot more shows that seemed even marginally interesting to me that I had initially thought. There’s no way I’ll get around to all of these. ANN’s Preview Guide and other early reviews will help me weed out what isn’t worth my time, which I feel might ultimately be quite a few of these titles, since there were far more “That looks kind of interesting” series this time around than ones that made me go “Holy crap, I have to watch this!” I see my final count being in the 5 to 10 range, if that.
Must-watch
– Dimension W (One of the most anticipated titles of the season, from everybody that made Darker Than Black. Sci-fi. Premise is interesting. Staff is looking good. Animation already looks incredible. Bring it on!)
– Grimgar (Has some incredible art direction and animation. The watercolor backgrounds in particular are mind-numbingly gorgeous)
Will probably watch
– Active Raid (Power Rangers + Food Wars character designs? Sounds good to me. Seems like a show that might run out of steam after awhile though.)
– Assassination Classroom Season 2 (More AssClass? Heck yeah! I just need to finish Season 1 first…)
– Bubuki Buranki (An interesting-looking anime original. Has some pretty slick CGI animation. It really looks 2D in certain shots)
– Dagashi Kashi (Always up for more comedy. Plus, I like the character designs)
– Durarara!!x2 Ketsu (The last cour of Durarara!!x2 is finally here. But I need to finish watching the previous two cours first…)
– ERASED: Boku dake ga Inai Machi (Not sure what to make of this one. Could be too melodramatic for me, but otherwise looks interesting)
– Luck & Logic (Love the art-style. Looks interesting, if not particularly unique)
– Oshiete! Galko-chan (Sounds funny, but short-form shows tend to be very hit or miss for me. I remain cautiously optimistic)
– Pandora in the Crimson Shell (I believe this is airing as a two-part special, so not much of a time commitment. I’m not the biggest ecchi fan, but it is sci-fi and the manga was written by Masamune Shirow of GITS fame and drawn by Excel Saga’s Rikudo Koshi. That’s quite a combination, and I’m very curious to see just what heck these guys came up with)
Might watch
– Divine Gate (I like the character designs. It’s status as a mobile game adaptation doesn’t inspire much confidence though. We’ll see how it goes)
– Fairy Tail Zero (Not a huge FT fan. Read a bit of the manga years ago, but never really bothered with the anime. If this standalone prequel is watchable on it’s own I might check it out. If it requires extensive knowledge of the series, I won’t bother)
– Haruchika (Sounds interesting. I like the character designs)
– Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R (I remember when the original came out, though I never saw it)
– Ojisan and Marshmallow (Another short-form anime. Just like Galko-chan, it sounds pretty funny, but again, cautious optimism)
– Phantom World (Sounds incredibly generic, but might be worth a watch if done well enough. I also like the character designs)
– Prince of Stride: Alternative (Sports anime aren’t really my thing. If it’s good I’ll give it a shot, otherwise I’ll pass)
– Schwarzesmarken (Not a Mul-Luv fan at all, but I’m willing to give this spinoff it’s fair shot, especially since it’s apparently completely standalone and doesn’t require any familiarity with it’s parent series. Hopefully the melodrama doesn’t kill it for me like it did for Total Eclipse)
On-going series:
– Heavy Object (Started kinda meh, but quickly became one of me favorite shows of the season. There’s no way I’m dropping it)
– Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (One of the best shows of the fall season. Of course I’m continuing)
Current count: A whopping 21 series. 19 new and two continuing from last season.

As someone who watched AOT, but would not consider himself a fan, I was not impressed by the near-identical premise. BUT, the music sounds great, the animation looks amazing, and I LOVE the character designs. They’ve got a very old-school feel to them, and that’s thanks to Haruhiko Mikimoto, the character designer of the first few Macross series and the original Gunbuster, whom they somehow roped in for this project. He’s barely worked on a handful of titles since the turn of the century, so his involvement is a pretty big deal for old-school anime fans.
I’m not completely sold, as this isn’t the kind of show I typically bother with, but it has enough things going for it that I’m definitely giving it a fair shot.

~~~
Fortunately, my list was smaller than last time. Seems far more manageable once I drop a few things based on initial impressions.
Must-watch
Kiznaiver (Trigger + Shirow Miwa on character designs = ???)
My Hero Academia (Read some of the manga. Love it)
Space Patrol Luluca (Trigger + Imaishi = ???)
Twin Star Exorcists (Also been reading the manga. Also loved it)
Will probably watch
Bungo Stray Dogs (Kinda-sorta getting some Baccano vibes. Either way, looks like a cool show. Also, Studio Bones)
Flying Witch (I like the designs. Seems like a unique set-up for a slice-of-life show)
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (As I said when I posted the trailers, it has enough going for it for me to give it a watch)
Maybes
Ace Attorney (Game-to-anime adaptations can be rather hit of miss. We’ll see how this goes)
Big Order (Sounds kinda interesting)
Endride (Kenshin and Bastard!!’s creators split character design duties, but otherwise it looks really generic)
Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto/Sakamoto desu ga? (Seems to be pretty funny)
Joker Game (Sounds interesting. ANN’s description sounds very convoluted though)
Kuromukuro (Hadn’t heard of this one before. Looks sci-fi?)
Mayoiga (Could go either way. Premise sounds interesting, but could easily be something I wouldn’t care for)
Re:Zero (I like the character designs, but the premise sounds rather generic)
Shonen Maid (Cross-dressing shota’s doing housework? This could either be really funny or really terrible)
On-going series
Ushio & Tora 2 (Will watch as soon as I finish Season 1)
Final Count: 16 new series + 1 continuing show
I’d probably be watching Macross Delta if I’d seen Frontier, but I haven’t. Ditto for the Magi: Sinbad spinoff. Never quite finished Season 1, let alone Season 2, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
Taki: Someone I don’t want to forget.
Mitsuha: Someone I didn’t want to forget.
Taki: Someone I couldn’t ever forget.
Mitsuha: Your name…
Taki: Your name!
Taki: The scene looked like something out of a dream.
Mitsuha: And it was truly…
Taki and Mitsuha: Something to behold.
A trip threw a wrench into my anime watching for an extended period of time, so I still have a number of things I’ll still be watching from last season. Not yet sure how well that bodes for all of the newer shows…
Absolutely Watching:
– Berserk (Despite it crossing a few lines from time-to-time, I’ve always been fond of Berserk. Excited to finally see some post-Golden Age content animated.)
– Danganronpa 3: Future Arc (I still can’t believe we’re actually getting double Danganronpa in the same season.)
– Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc (These two collectively are easily my #1 most anticipated anime of the season.)
– Mod Psycho 100 (The otherOf course
Interested:
– 91 Days (Looks interesting. I like when anime break away from modern Japan into more historical settings.)
– Hitori no Shita: the outcast (Piques my interest, but not sure what to expect. Character designs are nice.)
– Servamp (Doesn’t scream “must watch” to me, but could be fun.)
– Taboo Tattoo (Sounds quite interesting. It just barely missed being included in the “Absolutely Watching” category.)
On The Fence:
– Orange (Down-to-earth romance/drama series are highly hit-or-miss for me. Looks good, but we’ll see if it holds my interest)
– Qualidea Code (Character designer for the recent Fate anime. Will either be really interesting or really by-the-numbers. Can’t tell yet.)
– Regalia: The Three Sacred Stars (Fantasy and mecha? Can’t decide if it’s intriguing or just another variation on the generic fantasy school setting.)
– ReLIFE (Again, romance/drama shows are really hit-or-miss for me, but the premise is very intriguing.)
– Rewrite (Related to a VN. An anime-original route rather than a straight adaptation. Sounds mildly interesting, but has that really generic, big-eyed moe look that was big a few years ago.)
– Tales of Zestiria the X (Despite Ufotable’s god-tier animation, I’m still on the fence about this one. Still can’t tell if this is a straight adaptation or not. I like the Tales games, but haven’t played Zestiria yet, so if it is, I’ll probably avoid it due to spoiler concerns.)
Total pre-season count: 14
Realistic final count: 5 or 6
As usual, show listings can be found at AniChartANN
~~~
The problem with making this list after the season has already started is that I’ve inevitably already heard first impressions of some of these shows rather than blindly noting shows that caught my eye for whatever reason, so I’m gonna try and post my initial thoughts on these, despite already having decided to skip a few due to poor reception.
Definitely Watching:
– ClassicaLoid (An anime comedy featuring classical music composers? No ideas what to make it that, but I will definitely watch it)
– Occultic;Nine (From the creator of Steins;Gate. Could be fantastic! Or it could be totally incomprehensible…)
– Time Bokan 24 (I’ve been intrigued by most of Tatsunoko’s modernized reboots/remakes/thinly-veiled sequels of their classic properties they’ve been putting out over the past few years. Time to see what Time Bokan is all about!)
– Yuri!!! on Ice (An anime about male figure skating sounds promising. And it’s from studio MAPPA and the director of Fujiko Mine to boot. The first series inspired by one of the Animator Expo shorts, from the same director)
Interested:
– Cheating Craft (Art looks nice, no idea what to make of the premise though. But it’s short-form, so I’ll probably check it out)
– Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters (I’ve heard this is one of the best new Digimon TV series in quite awhile. I would totally watch it if it were to get picked up for a simulcast, but I’m not holding my breath)
– Drifters (I loved Hellsing Ultimate, but the Drifters manga never really caught my attention. I’ll certainly give the anime a shot though. Hopefully it’s got that sense of fun that Hellsing had, rather than just a super serious gore-fest)
– Flip Flappers (Magical Girls aren’t really my thing, but the silly title, colorful art direction and above average animation have caught my attention)
– Nanbaka (Very Colorful. Looks like it could be fun)
– Nobunaga no Shinobi (Short-form series. Sounds amusing)
– Izetta: The Last Witch (Alternate-world version of WWII, with a mild supernatural bend thanks to the inclusion of a “witch” *cough*magicalgirl*cough*. Sounds interesting and animation looks good, but the implied yuri pairing on the poster isn’t exactly a selling point for me)
– Kiss Him, Not Me/Watashi ga Motete Dousunda (Rom-com about a fujoshi surrounded by hot guys that she’d rather see going out with each other, than trying to go out with her. I’ve read some of the early manga chapters and was quite amused by it, though I hear her obsession with fantasizing about these straight guys hooking up gets a little cringey later on. We’ll see how it goes, or if the anime even gets that far)
On The Fence:
– Bloodivores (Sounds mildly interseting, but looks rather generic)
– Fune wo Amu (Visually it looks good, but the premise is… odd, to say the least. If nothing else, I’ve never seen another anime about the life of a man who works at a dictionary publisher)
– Kitaro’s Yokai Picture Diary/Kiitarou Shounen no Youkai Enikki (Art looks nice)
Total pre-season count: 15
Realistic final count: 4 or 5

What I want to watch for sure-
Girlish Number (its about idol voice acting and the girls are cute….sign me up!)
Yuri!!! on Ice ( disappointed for no actual yuri LOL but the animation looks fantastic and I love watching ice skating on TV)
Flip Flappers (the art gives me a Birdy the Mighty vibe but the name was off putting to me but reading about makes me want to watch it…also seems like a more unique magical girl show)
Shows that seem interesting but may not watch depending on reviews-
Magical Girl Raising Project- (a little less unique and already seems to dark and disturbing to me but I will keep my eye on it)
Nanbaka ( wasn’t interested in it at first but I like the bright visuals and it seems very quirky
Kiss Him Not Me ( I think I want to read the manga first but watching the anime)
May end up watching things not listed or depending on reviews also want to watch some older shows.
(( Also Symphogear was a originally dated for Nov. 30 but I haven’t heard anything for awhile and also no preview or anything also its not listed anywhere. Maybe it got pushed or worst… cancelled

Follow the adventures of three ordinary girls as they make life’s awkward moments a thousand times worse. Along with a colorful bunch of classmates, they learn their most important lessons the hard way. Meanwhile down the street, a pocket-sized professor makes life difficult for a robot who just wants to be normal. But normal is the last thing you can expect in a town where salmon falls from the sky. In fact, the only thing you can count on is your friends, but even they are totally weird.

But even when it seems like the whole world is out to get her, she always has her two adoptive siblings—Shannon and Raquel. Together they travel the countryside, making new friends and battling countless foes. Bit by bit, they uncover the incredible truth behind the prophecy and its ties to mysterious events from 5,000 years ago. With the fate of the world in her naïve hands, Pacifica and her siblings must learn who to trust and take on enemies of godly power. But for all their struggle, should such a poison be allowed to live?

I can’t quite tell what you’re referring to here. Cutting some of the Japanese credits in favor of more English ones?

They cut off anime footage. Cutting credits would be a copyright problem. You wouldn’t know if you’ve never watched the originals.
What dubs have you been watching? Unless it’s a heavily-edited show aimed at kids or it’s airing on TV and has to have cuts for time, we rarely get censored anime these days. While script alterations to match lip flaps are debatable, dubbed anime is almost always released on DVD as uncut as possible, certainly footage-wise regardless of the script, since 99% of the time they also include the original Japanese audio on the same disc using the same video source. The American companies get the same masters from the Japanese broadcast for the simulcasts (or the cleaned-up DVD footage that Japan often does), and then they just swap out the audio. That’s all you have to do to dub something. There’s no reason for them to do anything more.
Fans scrutinize these releases so much (and plenty watch fansubs recorded off Japanese TV), there’s no way something like that was happening under their noses without anybody noticing. Anime fans are so picky about these things, they would be in a collective uproar if that was the norm.
Unless your not referring to English dubs, in which case my mistake for blowing that out of proportion.

No Game No Lifeat least 10 seconds are cut from every episode here. In this case these aren’t as important as above.
I do think they would notice, actually. Again, fans heavily scrutinize these releases. With how widespread both fansubs and simulcasts are these days and how easy it is to import, and how common it is to find comparisons between English and Japanese disc quality, it would be really easy to verify if our DVDs were edited. Even if it wasn’t widespread knowledge, SOMEBODY on some internet forum somewhere would’ve noticed if a few seconds of footage were missing from tons of anime and that info would be out there. Surely you aren’t the only person on the internet to know this, yet scouring the internet turned up absolutely nothing. Without evidence, this is one of the silliest anime conspiracy theories ive ever heard.
There is literally no point to cutting a few seconds of footage from any given anime anyway. For what purpose would they do that, beyond intentionally trying to piss off fans? It doesn’t even make sense.
I am, of course, assuming we’re not talking about something insignificant like the 10ish seconds of sponsor screens, which are

Almael wrote:

I’m actually really curious what you’re talking about now. This missing thing is in the same place as the sponsor screen? Are we talking about sponsor screen illustrations? Those images that pop up for 10 or so seconds set to music between the end of the OP and the start of the episode?
If not, I’ll need you to be more specific. Maybe provide an example?
But if so, those are rarely part of the actual “episode footage”, nor is their removal a dub-specific thing. It’s common practice for any release outside of Japan (and sometimes even on Japanese DVDs). These screens exist solely as commercials to plug the sponsors during the original TV broadcast in Japan. Sometimes they try to make them interesting with an illustration or a short animation, but more often than not it’s just a screen cap or clip from the episode or an existing piece of promotional art. Coincidentally, ANN did an article on these just a few weeks ago.
The logos generally have to be removed from foreign releases for legal reasons (or forcibly snipped entirely if no sponsor-less master is provided and the companies involved are stingy), often leaving the blank 10 second screen, but since these no longer serve any purpose outside of the original broadcast, they are usually removed.
The illustrations, if there was one, are sometimes included as bonus features on DVDs though, or if animated or on the rare occasions they bleed into the episodes themselves and the foreign company doesn’t have access to the master footage without them (School Rumble was like this, I think), they’re usually just left intact. The foreign companies know what they’re doing (most of the time). If it’s important they’ll ideally leave it alone. If it’s not (and they’re usually not), then they get taken out. There’s really nothing of significance lost there, which is why generally no one cares.

The 74-minute Fate/Grand Order: First Order television special will stream on Crunchyroll and Daisuki on December 31 at 11:00 a.m. EST. The special will premiere in Japan on December 31 at 10:00 p.m. on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11 channels, and it will also simultaneously stream on Niconico.
The anime adapts TYPE-MOON’s smartphone role-playing game Fate/Grand Order. Aniplex of America describes the story:
The year 2015 CE.
The last era in which magecraft still thrived.
The Chaldea Security Organization was founded to focus on preserving the continuation of human history. They observe a world which magecraft couldn’t observe and science couldn’t measure all to prevent the certain extinction of humanity.
But one day, the future that Chaldea continued to observe disappears and humanity’s extinction in 2017 becomes clear. Rather, it had already happened.
The cause seems to be related to Fuyuki, a provincial town in Japan, in the year 2004 CE. There, an “unobservable region” that had not existed before appears.
Based on the assumption that Fuyuki is the reason for humanity’s extinction, Chaldea issues an order to explore, investigate, and possibly destroy this singularity – a quest for the Holy Grail, the Grand Order.

OTOH I’m still not sure about Attack On Titan
of the matter.
So Season 2 has Bigfoot in it? hmmm….

Definitely Watching:
– Akiba’s Trip (The games are fun, but I was expecting a low-budget, generic-looking adaptation. Instead we seem to be getting zany fights and colorful character designs that feel like imitation-Trigger)
– Fate/Grand Order (How can I say no to Fate?)
– The Dragon Dentist (Ryuu no Haisha) (2-part special based on the very first Animator Expo short. Super stocked for this one)
– Little Witch Academia (Do I really need to say anything here? No? I didn’t think so)
Interested:
– ACCA (Not sure what it is about this one. But I like the look and it sounds interesting, so I’ll give it a shot)
– Granblue Fantasy (I like the art and designs, though the animation quality itself seems pretty meh. Oddly, this show was delayed at the last minute to Spring and will instead just have a special airing later in January)
– Masamune-kun’s Revenge (Sounds interesting, and I’ve heard some good things about it)
– Onihei (Historical anime are often hit-or-miss for me, but this one looks pretty good)
On the Fence:
– Chaos;Child (My interest in the semicolon series varies wildly from entry-to-entry. This one doesn’t exactly hook me, but we’ll see)
– eIDLIVE (Liking the manga art is a pretty poor reason for considering such a generic-sounding show, isn’t it?)
– Interview With Monster Girls (Demi-chan wa Kitaritai) (Sounds kind of amusing)
– Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid (Also sounds kind of amusing)
– One Room (Yeah, I got nothing for this one. The poster just had such nice lighting and shadows.)
– Youjo Senki (The character designs and pretty good animation in the trailer caught my attention, though I’ve heard less than pleasant things about the manga since)
Little Witch Academia : Of course, Netflix be damned.
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu II : another helping of excellence.
We’ll see if anything else catches my eye.
:add: Interviews with Monster Girls has done so.
:add2: Seiren is OK, but: it’s the same as Amagami. Whether that’s good or bad is up to you.
(How can I say no to Fate?)
It’s gonna’ be a good year.

I’m pumped because it’s nice and short (hard to mess up anything that way, but knocking on wood anyway), and unlike so many other shows, YYH (along with DragonBall) is a franchise FUNimation gives a crap about when it comes to getting the original cast back, as evidenced by their fairly recent dub of the short YYH movie The Golden Seal. So (all but) knowing the VA’s I know and love from YYH–Justin, Chuck, Chris, and John–will be returning is all I need to get excited for this one.
