Watanabe has yet to disappoint me with his creations thus far.^^

Seeing how most of his shows are based more on the deep thinking, question of morality aspect, as well as kick-ass action, I am interested to see how this should turn out since it follows more along the lines of comedy. I guarantee that even with the comedy it will raise awesome questions and a spectacular plot in and of itself. The main character already seems to be very likeable as is ^^.

I am excited too, and can’t wait!

      Ooh! Me! Me!! 😉

Watanabe has ambitious expectations for this series, as well.

I’ve always been a fan of Watanabe’s, and Space Dandy sure looks like it won’t disappoint :D , probably the only original anime series I’ve been hyped for since Needless, lol

I’m sure it’ll turn out better than Needless, anyway. :P
I wonder if the main character will be like Cowboy Andy from CB.It be interesting if that type of comic character would get a bit of an expansion characterwise.

Totally weird and bizarre opening that makes the entirety of Dead Leaves now a bit more sensible by

The official blog for the Space Dandy anime series announced on Friday that the anime will run on television in Japan, North America, and Asia nearly simultaneously in January. It will run on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in North America and on Animax Asia in Asia (except Korea). In Japan, it will run on Tokyo MX TV, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, and BS Fuji.

North American anime distributor Funimation is charge of the home video release and is producing an English dub for the television release. Singapore’s Odex is responsible for licensing in Asia and cooperating with Animax Asia on the publicity. Madman is preparing business prospects for Oceania, while licensing is going forward for Korea and Europe.

So after some time to think about it…

      Episode 1

It’s been pretty divisive thus far between fans of Watanabe, many of whom are upset at the slapstick attitude everything takes. I think I’ll agree on the sentiment shared that the first half kinda goes a little too hard (ba dum tish) on the sex jokes but once they pick up Meow the show really starts taking off. Dandy is completely incompetent at his job, even his equipment is substandard as we saw in the scene where their teleporter took a good minute to warm up while they held their dumb hero poses. Fans expecting Bebop or even Shamploo are going to have to check expectations at the door – I mean come on one of the ships we saw had the head of the Statue of Liberty with a ball gag as its most prominent feature.

I’ll say it has potential and the last 15 minutes had me laughing almost non stop, I just personally hope they tone down the Breastaurant stuff a bit as we move forward. Gorgeously animated and drawn, fantastic music choice as always with a Watanabe joint. Overall we give it a:

      out of Dandy.

So would you say it’s worth the effort to pluck down dinero to buy or even to rent?

Can we just talk about how awesome that last episode was?

Also Nil, they are selling a Dandy Jacket and Belt

I have been thinking about trying to get my hands on one, they’ve been spamming them on the Dandy twitters for the past few weeks and my resolve is weakening. Just need to see how much it’ll make the wallet hurt.

In one of the turns I was not expecting this show to take… Space Dandy & Co are being used to advertise fashion designs of several Japanese designers through Wear.jp.

Right here looks like you can see the full set

Were it not for the fact that they were hella expensive, ones like this look pretty cool.

And so we see just how popular it has grown.

Man look at that font and that cover, if Space Dandy gets any cooler I may have to grow a Pompadour

The pompadour was made famous by Elvis and then Reagan. So looks like Space Dandy is in good company when it comes to hairstyle! iloveit1

According to Myau’s twitter, the second season begins on July 6th on Tokyo MX. I expect an announcement for July 5th to be the official start in the States. It also appears that Dandy’s JP VA will be singing in a composition by Hidenori Mukai. Curious to see how that will end up over here in the states.

Dandy had a Toonami promo tonight

      [BBvideo 425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyesKYt9IwU[/BBvideo]

Also some staff lists emerged on JP twitters, one in particular caught my attention as it was unlisted in terms of numerical order but given the subtitle of (Making a band EP). Dandy going full rockabilly? Or will he stick with the groove, baby?

Some interesting info from an interview with studio BONES’ president Masahiko Minami a few days ago:

      Quote:

…and stressed, that the Mechs were drawn analogically on cels, a process rarely used in today’s animation process, yet they also used it for Space Dandy.

He started off his section about Space Dandy with an excuse because the first episode was so “special” and asked the viewers not to be deterred by it, especially the female ones after hearing Dandy’s introductory monologue. He and Shinichiro Watanabe wanted to create a show that would be entirely different than anything that is popular at the moment. They had met up regurlarly after Bebop, through which they had become good friends, and he told the audience how hard it was to restrain their ideas in order not to alienate the viewers with their “strangeness”. But he was glad that they could go all-out with season 2 since he assumed that the viewers would be accustomed to it by then. He further noted that they actually encouraged their animators to work as freely as they want which resulted in some employees not even looking at the character sheets, leading to some heavy alterations in designs between different episodes, e.g. the length of a character’s hair.

At the end of his presentation, he emphasized that he intends to work as closely with his animators as he has up until now. He also announced that BONES will release 3 adaptations as well as one original show in 2015 as well as expressing his wish to produce a Space Dandy movie should the TV series become a success.

While we’re at it, can I just say how much I love the art for the JP DVD releases? This one in particular is a favorite for the Devo references, and the fact that they are embracing the Blockhead, Bonehead and Pinhead nicknames even more.

Also, designs and guest list for next week’s episode are already up and some fans are speculating more and more that this episode will be a giant Black Heaven type thing, or at least contain several references to it.

Movie is a great idea, and not out of the question imo.

At any rate, now that it’s “over” (and sadly, I fell behind along the ride) let the dvd’s come forth!

Dr. Gel = Jet Black in an alternate universe where he wasn’t involved with the ISSP? And got exposed to Monkey Business?

      Can’t believe we’re in a post-Dandy world… for now.

To continue the madness, after the episode aired Dagon had remarked that Admiral Perry’s human form looked too specific to be a random design. Turns out, he was right. The head of the Gogol Empire is, in fact, Larry Page, the CEO of Google.
