^Very awesome Tenchiscythe, thank you for sharing not only your own amv but some others that you enjoy as well ^-^ The fact that you got into Tenchi via an amv is also very cool, & surprisingly I’ve heard of people getting into series that way before–via an amv–or vice versa, liking a song/artist they had never heard before viewing a certain amv. Shows that amv’s actually have a positive effect on any potential market (music, anime, digital downloads, etc) but that discussion is for another thread.

Great idea JGZinv, I’ll make it a point to do so, as anyone familiar with amv’s/youtube in general knows, it could be here one day, gone the next and that’s that, if nobody else saved it, & it wasn’t uploaded anywhere else, & the original artist doesn’t reupload, it’s lost forever. I would encourage anyone who is able to do so, if you see an amv that’s really dear to you, save it if you can (as I’m sure someone often ends up doing with more popular or older amv’s). I may have to devote some of my time and efforts to archiving as many of these wonderful Tenchi (and related series) amv’s while they’re still around.

Well imho, I think of all the series, the confrontation with Kagato in Universe more closely resembles

Great find chuck, if ever there’s a combining of Tenchi and Star Wars, you can bet I’ll be interested. The pacing and rhythm was well-timed with the music, and I really like this artist’s subtle touch when it comes to editing, transitions and effects. With simple editing techniques (such as mirrored images, time lapses, etc) the artist creates the look that Yosho and Tenchi are battling Kagato simultaneously; the sparing use of mirrored images in particular really added to the duality (pun intended) of the piece.
Even simpler yet just as clever, I really enjoyed this artist’s use of taking the original footage and manipulating characters’ expressions and actions to suggest an entirely different sequence of events all together–an art that every good amv-er knows and that imho you don’t see as often with amv’s with the furthered advent of easier-to-use masking capabilities in video editing software–and also the splicing in of Universe footage was used effectively for the vision this artist was trying to create. Thanks again for sharing chuck, & everyone else, when it comes to good Tenchi amv’s out there…keep a weathered eye on the horizon!

Good choices also, Makoto. The Cascada Ryoko amv is by an uploader known as “ShadowCabbit” and fun fact: once upon a time, they started on a Tenchi abridged series of their own shortly after TLF (didn’t last, however). The editor (mcfrey) has continued to make good Tenchi amv’s however, such as this one.
I also fondly remember “Tenchi Girls Just Wanna’ Have Fun” though I don’t think it’s been posted beforehand. So thanks again Makoto!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PdbQVx9kEA Here’s one I should have been aware of a long time ago, but sadly (or rather, I should say, fortunately because I found it) I’ve just now stumbled across it. It’s by a longtime friend of mine and even longer amv-er KiyoneMihoshiFan. He’s uploaded more Tenchi AMV’s than you can count with your fingers and toes combined, for a number of years, and as if that isn’t impressive enough…he’s been so consistent. Having done amv’s for a few years myself and entered a contest or two here and there, sometimes it’s easy to fall into the trap of stressing over them or turning what should be a fun activity into “work” or even changing your style to try to appeal to judges/viewers. KMF, however, has kept his recognizable style, a trait which in my own undertakings I’ve found emulatable. Watching KMF’s work again recently–whether it’s his newest works or some of his first, they still have this one enduring quality above all others–reminded me why I started making/viewing Tenchi amv’s in the first place: they’re just so much fun!

A lot of feels in this one, that’s for sure (I think you tried to hit allof them involving Ryoko?). Loose montage, good for the sentimental approach (which is often a good one to have with amv’s; but what’s more important is that it came from the heart, so good on you there), and interesting how you ended the amv: not with Tenchi and Ryoko hugging or something happy, but on a somewhat non-synchronous note where we’re left thinking Ryoko might have bought the farm (leaving 5-10 seconds of footage without music good touch too); I liked that. -
