There’s been chatter of a few people looking to go together as a Tenchiforum group for next year’s Ohayocon, which for those not in the know… is an Anime con that runs January 18th – 20th (Fri ~ Sun). The con is located in Columbus, OH USA.
Since pre-registration is supposed to be online now or very shortly…
I guess the question is…. who actually is sincere about possibly doing it?
Any ideas on things you might want to do as a group? TenchiCast direct from… etc…

I am definitely serious about going, however, those days are right around the time when the spring semester starts up at my university. No way to know when exactly that will be until later in the year, but I could probably just blow off the first day of class safely (my priorities are TOTALLY in the right place lol :Cheeks: ) Anyway, I would be open for lots of things at the con, an onsite tenchicast, a tenchiforum panel (especially if we get that 20th anniversary announcement we are all waiting for…), and various other stuff. -

Wrong side of the country for me.What’s the one is Seattle called?Of course the problem with Seattle is that it’s on the other side of the State. -
- July 14, 2012 at 6:01 PM
It’s too far away for me, unfortunately. -

Thanks.I wasn’t sure what it was called.I just wish they had one in Spokane and then all I would need to worry about would be transportation there and back and spending money. It be nice too if they could do it in conjunction with the annual Japan Week.

As of right now, you can’t get (or submit) a panel application until Sept 1st, so I’d like a headcount of those who would want to go and be a part of the panel Read here for more info

I’m definitely game for this. Obviously I cannot fully commit to it this far out, but within reason I can say that I’m planning on going. -
- July 16, 2012 at 6:24 PM
Zombies? :WUTH: Maybe they’ll have cosplayers dressed up as Rei from High School of the Dead, could be only that lucky.
😆 I see the one in Spokane is the same day as my parents’ anniversary.

Should be able to do it. By then should have my tablet and should be able to get a external TV box setup for it. Might be able to show the toonami promo or manga off it, if we can get a projector.

amgplz awwww I wanna be in on a panel so badly! Sadly, I doubt I’ll be able to make it. Money would be an issue for me, as would the fact I will have classes that Friday and following Monday (& it’s a long ways away for me). I guess I’ll say, to play it safe, don’t count on me being in, but if there’s a possibility of me getting in on this, I’ll update asap. -

Holy shit, the first convention I ever went to is back again! I thought they were dead and never to come back years ago. I’d go if the only characters nowadays that I’m obsessed enough about to cosplay as weren’t all girls, because that’s not really how I roll. -

- July 25, 2012 at 6:29 PM
Oooohhh! Now if someone(hopeful of the female gender)would go as Ryoko and take pictures for the rest of us….. -
- July 26, 2012 at 3:42 AM
Alright so chuck says he can go… We got 4, me, dagon, and chuck, and a zero ryoko cosplayer anyway.
Dagon has other arrangements already at the Hyatt.
Here’s the hotel rates I was able to find out.
Looking at Check in Saturday, Check out Sunday. That’s the 19th and 20th of Jan, 2013.
Why? Cause I’ll have to leave here midnight Fri (ie. work) and drive straight through to Columbus, to get there for Sat – Con/Sleep, Get up, Con Sun and then drive back Sun night for Monday morning (work).
If you want to reserve the room longer, up to you, I’ll take care of my portion for while I’m there.
Quote:Hyatt –
http://columbusregency.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels-columbusregency/rooms/room-description.jsp Is located as part of the convention, is connected building wise, will be the main one hit by people so to speak.
Amenities – usual upscale stuff, no free wifi unless you are in a public zone, it’s $10 a night in the rooms.
They are willing to setup an early check-in for guest if they show up early, ie you want to be there earlier than I can be. Did not mention a price change unless it’s after a certain time, then they’d bill you for Friday too.
Cost:
2 adult, 2 double bed room, con rates, no free breakfast. 1 Night according to Hyatt.
$128 a night + $24 in taxes = $152 a night. (Divide by 2 = $76 a night)
Quote:Drury – Called, they are all out of double rooms, only single kings left.
Sorry don’t roll that way… so nope.
Quote:Lofts – Really high end like B&B apartments thing.
$442 a night – nope…
Quote:Red Roof Inn –
https://www.redroof.com/property/RRI262/Columbus/OH/43215/ 3 Rooms Left as of this Post Is 2 fair blocks away, will have to cross 2 roads to get there.
2 adult, 2 double bed room, regular rates, free breakfast, free wifi, nice rooms, big flat panel TV etc,.
1 Night according to RRI $140.99 a night w/tax over internet or by phone.
Breaks down to $70.50/night respectively.
Ok other option. If you pay everything upfront, no cancellations, no refunds, you get a discount.
$120.99 a night w/tax over internet.
Breaks down to $60.50/night respectively.
Each hotel if you add a person the rate goes up by something between $20 and $40 a night.
But you get to split it 3 ways instead of 2 of course.
So this looks like Hyatt or RRI.
Need to make some decisions, as time “is” money in this case. -
- July 27, 2012 at 5:28 PM
It’s too bad that none of you has any relatives or friends you could stay with in Columbus as that would save you some money, looks like the entire weekend for you guys is going to be expensive and that’s not counting buying anything while you’re there. -
- July 28, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Yeah, well you’ve probably been to Ohio more times than I have and I don’t even think I have ever been to Columbus. My mom has a cousin somewhere in Ohio, probably near Pennsylvania but I don’t know where.
The only other thing I know about Ohio is that they got a lot of Trekkers out to vote when Kate “Captain
Janeway” Mulgrew’s husband ran for governor.

Quote:Will do! There’s another Tenchi cosplayer interested and a Mihoshi cosplayer, I don’t know if they can make it, but I’ve let them know. They’re coming from Hawaii so it might be a little difficult for them to make it, but they’re going to try.

Quote:Hi,
I’m the person that asked Kiyo to make the posts in the first place.
I’m admin of the DualFans forum (dualfans.com) and I help out Dagon who’s the admin at TenchiForum.com, who will be leading the panel.
Great to hear there are more looking at coming. Ideally we’d see a packed room of cosplayers and Tenchi fans. I’m trying to reach as many TM! cosplayers as I can in the Mideastern States and invite them.
We’re hoping to put together a panel that’s not the typical “folks sit and talk about things everyone already knows” type of thing. We’re looking into ways to get the audience involved, discuss things folks that may have only seen Toonami may not be aware of.
Such things might be as the Tenchi manga, which is it’s own continuity based off the OAV series. Tenchi music and AMVs. The extended universe, such as the spin off series Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure, Photon, and more recently Saint Knight’s Tale (Funimation just yesterday announced this will be dubbed TM! War on Geminar). Some other things like the Japanese novels, mangas, comics, doujinshi, and other materials that never made it to the States we can talk about too. There’s truly a whole other realm of info out there that can be tapped.
Some of us have over 12 years in the fandom, so we’ve got a lot we can cover and hope to make it a great time. So the more the merrier.
Keep spreading the word!
p.s. if you’d like to listen to sort of a “panel series” TenchiForum does a regular podcast on Tenchi topics, which is sort of like a panel already.
You can find those here:

http://www.ohayocon.org/guests.html Also currently on the subject, they are taking in requests for guests, so if you want to see somebody (like Petrea) go in hordes and do it! That way they will see a decent amount and go for it sooner rather then later.

If you don’t mind, throw in a vote for Michelle Ruff along with your Tenchi peoples. She was Mitsuki Sanada in Dual, along with 200 other things. Generally very nice to attendees,
and she didn’t start going to cons except in the last few years. Would like a chance to meet her.
There are about 3-4 non related votes for her already.
-
- July 30, 2012 at 6:03 PM
How far in advance do they schedule guests? Michelle Ruff was also Ran The Goldfish in Angel Tales and Chi in Chobits. She can be considered the
American Tanaka Rei for the fact that they played some of the same roles.

I’d love to be able to get involved with this. But realistically I would probably still be in school. Plus I’m not exactly sure what I could bring to the table, but it still sounds awesome. -

We need to be working on contacting the people in these links here, one is for deviantart the other from cosplay.com. Mostly I tried to stay within the last 2 years, and remove duplicates but there are some particularly on cosplay.com where they are dups of devart, but they may be more contactable through one than the other or have links to other tenchi group cosplayers on one than the other.
Will have to work on a form letter unless someone else can come up with one.
Probably should list which links have been hit already too so we don’t overlap or really pester
the folks.

1,000 thank you’s, Z-man. I don’t have any accounts or a presence in the cosplaying or deviant art community, so is there any particular way I can assist? Or are there particular instructions we’d like to have listed for us general members (w/o devart accounts) that want to spread the word?
*Hopefully this is already understood, but to members involved with deviant art and/or the cosplaying community, please spread the word!
(p.s. lemme know if you want help with a form letter Z-man)

Yes we need to get on this, I’ve not had the time. My butt has imploded from all the kicking it’s gotten lately. Yeah a letter and a dummy TF account on both services or using mine would be fine, need to send a letter out to folks. We’re running out of August.
-
- August 17, 2012 at 1:14 AM
Good idea JG. If we go the ‘dummy account’ route perhaps leave that up to Dagon to create a general ‘tenchiforum’ username account (personally or assigning someone to do so). As far as a form letter, I could help toss out some drafts if someone outlines plainly for me the gist of what we want it to say, or I could do some revising/editing here or there if someone else wants to do a first draft.
-
- August 17, 2012 at 1:28 AM
Take a look at my post letter to the person at cosplay.com a couple pages back. That’s not bad far as everything that needs to be said… Just sort of hey, nice cosplay, we’re doing this stuff, like to invite you, sept 1 costs go up, stop by TF is you have more questions…
-
- August 17, 2012 at 2:24 AM
Thanks Z man, I checked it out. Here’s my attempt at a first draft form letter, let me know what you think, make edits/revisions as you’d like, etc. etc. 😉 (sorry if it’s lengthy, it won’t allow me to upload a word document):
Greetings fellow Tenchi fan! As you may or may not already be aware, Funimation has made some BIG announcements regarding the seriesIsekai no Seikishi Monogatarior Tenchi Muyo: War on Geminar(previously known to the Tenchi fandom community as Saint Knight’s Tale) recently at Otakon 2012. In case you haven’t heard, here’s some links to bring you up to speed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenchi_Muyo!_War_on_Geminar ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenchi_Muyo!_War_on_Geminar http://tenchiforum.com/v3.0/news1.html ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://tenchiforum.com/v3.0/news1.html http://www.youtube.com/user/TenchiForumhttp://www.youtube.com/user/TenchiForum” class=”bbcode_url”> But before we get too far ahead of ourselves: you may have noticed several of the links mention or link to “Tenchiforum.” What the heck is Tenchiforum, you say? Well…
We’re an active community of Tenchi fans (and its “cousin” series
Dual!, Photonand El-Hazard) providing a place of common ground for fans to share their experiences and fan-made works (including fanfiction, fan art and cosplay). For years, Tenchiforum has been a great place to keep the memory of our favorite anime alive while making friends along the way. We are fan-made, fan-supported, and entirely non-profit, and exist solely to preserve the name of Tenchi Muyo!and to provide opportunities for fan involvement in a welcoming way. Which brings us to the point of our message (sorry if we rambled a bit here and there):January 18th – 20th(that’s a weekend, Fri – Sun) 2013is the anime convention Ohayocon: 2013 in Columbus, Ohio. For the first time ever, we are looking to start an official Tenchiforum/Tenchi fan panel at this upcoming venue to spread the word about Tenchi and its latest offshoot, War on Geminar(and of course, to have fun!). We are in the process of scheduling and coordinating this exciting venture, and would love to have as many Tenchi fans (especially cosplayers!) in attendance as possible. If you live anywhere nearby, or just happen to be in the neighborhood (or you don’t mind traveling long distances) we’d love to see you there!
Please follow the link(s) below if you are interested or would like additional information.
**NOTE**The con isn’t until January, but if you register before September 1stprices will be significantly cheaper! http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=565 ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=565 (for early con registration)http://www.ohayocon.org/http://www.ohayocon.org/” class=”bbcode_url”> The carnival is back!

It’s lengthy yes, it says everything… *scratches chin*
If anything might shorten the middle up and leave it as an open invitation to the forum, as I find people are more open to looking in on something if the are presented with a question and they themselves venture on over.
In any case, do need to get this rolling.

Also need to think about what we’re going to word up for the panel application. You can expect a google doc’s form most likely.
http://forums.ohayocon.org/index.php?showtopic=1791 That’s from last year, expect some “we want zombines panels” blah on this year’s form.
Start contemplating. Panels are generally 1 hour blocks.
I might be able to get a projector if we’re not provided one, not sure about the sound yet.
So we can do video, maybe audio.
Get to thinking, stuff is right around the corner.
-
- August 26, 2012 at 6:32 AM
Some thoughts from talking with Who. We need to make a pre-submission list of what we want to cover.
We should have a 50 minute block with 5 mins setup and break down on either side.
Some things to cover:
Presentation – Tenchi Toonami promo
The extended universe (ie other series, Dual!, Photon, Sammy)
Noting the announcements and releases for the new sets and war on geminar.
The manga, Doujinshi, Novels.
The community is still around! Where we’re at. TF/DF/etc
Other projects – tenchicast, redub, MST, amv’s, etc
Interaction with the fans –
Q&A time towards the end.
Somehow interact more with them during things. (ask like what’s your favorite moment?)
Need to figure out who all will be on the panel (JGZ, Dagon, Chuck, ???????)
Any ideas on where / when to put a cosplay meetup or as part of or after the panel (again loose idea when/where kinda early atm to pick anything).
What’s going to be the plan tentatively’loosely if we don’t get approved?
-
- August 27, 2012 at 2:44 AM
Great outline JG (we talked about sooo much, hopefully we’ll remember the important stuff) All of these topics are important, and all have pressing deadlines to see to. If anyone reading this is half as concerned about it as JG, myself & others coordinating the event, it will likely seem almost overwhelming!
So here’s what I propose we do: think of JG’s mantra
do everything we canbut in chunks (what? chunks sounds too gross? Oh fine, then, bits, bites, tidbits, sections, what have you). First off: applying for the panelAs my understanding of the situation at the moment goes, if last year’s model is to be considered reliable, registration for applicants will likely begin
September 1st. We don’t have to be the first to enter, don’t have to jump the gun too much–& we definitelydon’t want to turn in anything too early–but after the official opening for applications, the sooner the better. *EDIT/NOTE: This doesn’t directly apply to anyone, don’t feel like you should go out there and apply for the forum (it’s actually very frowned upon to apply too early by the con staff!). We’ll gather thoughts/ideas into ONE OFFICIAL FORM, then Administration will handle turning it in.As of this writing, I don’t know exactly how the application process/form works–if it’s more of a question-and-answer setup or more of a ‘tell us, in your own words’ sort of scenario, but we’ll figure that out when we find out (or if you know, post please!)–but at any rate the end goal is the same: state concisely, efficiently and elegantly our objectives for the panel, a thorough (but not lengthy) description of our intended presentation, and basically laying out why we think we deserve to have a panel (insert our qualifications, credentials, etc…not bragging, just telling it like it is).
When we find out more about how exactly we want this mission statement/form letter (for lack of better comparison) I would be more than happy to write up a draft, but any contributions/considerations/corrections after-the-fact would be appreciated, and the more eyeballs looking over it the better. Not to sound too dramatic, but we only get one shot at this! It’s gotta be good.
*Also under step 1: Who all is going to be attending and on the panel? It seems a long ways away, but as part of the application process, we really need to know to inform Ohayocon staffers who is bringing what to the table.
Step Number 2 (A):Okay, let’s say we made it. GREAT! … Now what? As JG has already outlined, there is a specific timeframe we will have to do the panel, so it needs to be planned out concisely, if not meticulously. THIS IS WHERE EVERYONE CAN LEND A HAND!To be most efficient, the fine details and actual scheduling will be handled by the brave folks from our forum attending the con. Also, as you can see, being on top of things JG (& whoever else contributed to the list) has some great ideas already. But possible ideas regarding topics/how we approach certain facets (like audience involvement) are totally up for brainstorming and suggestions. Throw them out there, the more brains in the storm the better. Try to be creative, but think along these guidelines: we don’t want to be just “a youtube video in person.” In other words, what can we bring to the table to the attendees that they couldn’t otherwise find anywhere else, or may be unaware of? Topics include: 1) Extended Universe (EU) elements such as doujinshi/manga/novels2) Fan-made items never-previously-seen (think about how cartoonists or something along those lines often make a special little video unique to the venue they’re attending…it makes it personalized, and more memorable for the attendees…we could possibly do something like that, whip a video or two together): Contingency plan for –*knock on wood, literally–should we not get accepted as an ‘official’ panel. We’ve already invited people, & others have made reservations/plans, allocated funds, etc., so what’s the best way to make the best of it? (even if we don’t have an allocated room or a scheduled event on paper, we can still make an impact for the forum and more importantly the fandom). But we’ll cross this bridge when we get to it. THIRDLY:Post-panel. Assuming we have some cosplayers in attendance (which I think we will): after-panel meet up/photo session? *EDIT/NOTE: We may need to inform people that this would NOT be a professional (i.e. $ involved) photoshoot.Interactive cosplay element during panel? (that would be awesome, but a bit too soon to try to predict. ^(on that note, any ideas for cosplaying are open to ideas, like in step 2, but keep in mind we’d need ‘x’ number of cosplayers depending on how specific your idea may be, and atm we’re not sure how many we really would have)
Perhaps even a after-panel “live from Ohayocon” Tenchicast??? Probably allot some time for questions afterwards, but (not that I fiind Tenchi boring, of course) in keeping with the “not a live youtube vid” theme, we’d want to refrain from killing too much panel session time with questions that could be answered easily enough via the forum or an online wiki. This would be an ideal time for ideas for audience involvement as well.
I know, it’s alot. But as the saying goes, “Many hands make light work.” Several people are working very hard at making this a reality, and doing it on behalf of the forum
andthe larger Tenchi fan community; either way you slice it, that means in a round-about way, on behalf of us. So please, if you have the time, give this some thought, and any input you’d like to contribute, please post away! We’d appreciate it! ~Thank you all for your time
(remember, right around the corner!!!) -
- August 30, 2012 at 1:42 AM
ok, here’s my first contribution (or, plan of one, written down anyways): Let’s say after we’ve been approved for panel…we’ll definitely want to get the word out! So, promotional video route! (?) Dagon voicing would be best (imo) but with everyone busier than heck, I’ll just throw my hat in the ring ahead of time & say I’d be willing to take a stab at it (voice too, if Dagon/JG don’t have time) if that’s what would work best (or whomever would like to/has means).

Definitely waited until the final day (heheh) but I just registered and got everything set up! So I was reading that we may have a table? I’m not a moderator or anything, but I would happily help with things (set up, that kind of thing) Also has anyone thought of a group e-mail for those attending for us to contact each other and to know what to look for? I mean we don’t have to start now, but I think it could be fun to get to know everyone before meeting up. Of course you all probably know each other and are BFFz and I’m the odd one out. In which case, I’m FRIENDLY so I’ll manage ^,^

Hey Spokes! Long time no–hear
😆 Wonderful to hear you’ll be attending (wish I could). Also great to hear you’re willing to assist (certainly don’t have to be a mod, it’s better for people actually going to head up the organizational elements).A group email would be a good idea (dunno’ how one goes about that) or if there’s any way that con attendees want to swap emails, I think that would be a good idea. I think facebook you can make a group, & of course there’s TenchiForum official fb page:
http://www.facebook.com/TenchiForumhttp://www.facebook.com/TenchiForum” class=”bbcode_url”> There’s only a few of you actually going, & imo you’re all really nice & trusting & all that, but if using your personal fb profile is too revealing, that’s understandable. Perhaps with Google or Yahoo it would be possible to make a group email of sorts?
We’ll need to work on that. In the meantime, as I type this it is the 1st (where I’m at) so we should be watching this thread of Ohayocon’s forum site:
http://forums.ohayocon.org/index.php?showtopic=5521http://forums.ohayocon.org/index.php?showtopic=5521” class=”bbcode_url”> As I understand it (as I post this) registration should now technically be open, and they
shouldbe posting links/announcements to where/how one can actually go about doing this. Registering is our next BIG important step! Again, I don’t know what the format of the registration applications entails, but when the time comes I’d be more than happy to assist in writing up our application (if you want my help and it says ‘now open’ and I’m not around, come find me! pm etc.) Side note: anyone registered to post on Ohayocon’s forum? If we don’t see anything announced within a couple of days, may be to our benefit to post a reply and ask ‘what’s goin on?’ that kind of thing.
So for now, be vigilant checking Ohayocon’s forum! Thanks Spokes & everyone else working on making this happen.

I hope I can make it to one of these conventions one day -
- September 20, 2012 at 4:46 AM
For anyone that’s potentially or confirmed going to Ohayocon, I’d like you to make a post in these threads to try and show to the Con staff that there’s interest in what we’re doing, as that may help get the panel approved in some small way.
Other panels/events that have been held a dozen cons already, obviously may be given preference since they gain attendees… so we need to at least show we have people interested rather than going in cold turkey.
Here’s the cosplayer thread so far:
http://forums.ohayocon.org/index.php?showtopic=5491 Dagon – we could probably use to make a panel thread here –
http://forums.ohayocon.org/index.php?showforum=58 Not sure what all you put in the application, so not sure what I should say yet.

Thanks for the update. Is there a place where you can see where it is going to be in the next couple of years oris it chosen at random? -
- September 21, 2012 at 1:06 AM
Con’s generally are the same time same place every year… mostly cause of space and it makes money for the local businesses.
This site has other cons –

Sorry if this wasn’t made clear enough, but this is our first ever attempt at having an official Tenchiforum presence at
anycon. So if we want to make this a semi-regular event (or at least repeating) this is the one that will really count! -

berate JG for not contacting hotel for adjusted arrangements yet! -

I can easily get transportation for either saturday or friday, the only reason I havent booked yet is because I didn’t know if we could get friday at the hotel. I would prefer friday for many reasons. Either way definitely talk to the hotel people even if it’s just to discover if we even can get friday and to let them know about bib possibly being there. -

Thanks for info on amv’s JG. I’ve been in contact with the guy (Adam) I haven’t had time to make anything new, and my old ones (that I’d be proud to enter) are in a widescreen format, which apparently is a no-go. I don’t really have access to my original files to sloppily convert them into an acceptable format, so idk if it will work for me. I could toss in some of my old ones, no chance of winning but if they just want more amv’s to show… -
- December 28, 2012 at 6:00 AM
^I shall look into this. Though, since I don’t have originals I will have to re-download from my own youtube, but I guess that shouldn’t hurt the quality too much (if at all). 480×720 is gewd, right? kirbyishappyplz
-
- December 28, 2012 at 6:30 AM
Who… took me like 30 seconds to make it totally con-compatible. Download from youtube via FF plugin at 1080P, throw into freemake with right settings,
it’s ready to submit.
See…
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/20797133/Yosho_%20the%20most%20interesting%20man%20in%20the%20world.avi ” class=”bbcode_url”> https://dl.dropbox.com/u/20797133/Yosho_%20the%20most%20interesting%20man%20in%20the%20world.avi Um give it a minute.. it’s uploading.
You can set it to stretch it or letterbox it, the con will take either.

- December 29, 2012 at 4:35 AM
Thanks Z-man… Well, I’ve been traveling alot this year for the holidays, and it’s still not over yet (busy this weekend). I have found a video that would actually be acceptable (something about had to be created after Feb 2012 apparently) changed the format and created an account with amv.org, but I’m running into problems–no surprise there, I may be–with the exception of some Amish folk–the least computer-using-inclined-knowhow person on the planet.
Having spent what little available time I’ve had just figuring out how amv.org and ftp servers work, I’ve have been unable, time and time again, to successfully upload/transfer (it appears my video goes over the storage limit of amv.org, that I’ve just now seen in the fine print). Quite frankly, I am exhausted and a bit frustrated.
Unless you, JGZinv or someone else going to the con with an amv.org account or something similar would like to transfer/upload my video for me (then act as my proxy at the con) I’m afraid I’ll likely have to raise the white flag on this one.
*EDIT–cools off*
Okay, I will try again tomorrow/Sun when I have some time to do so. I have to get my vid from 900(ish, I think) mb down under 150mb w/o the quality suffering too bad…we’ll give it a go!
On a brighter note, despite my minor setbacks (at my own incompetence) I’m glad so much has gone right thus far, and I hope everything else goes well *knocks on wood. It’s sure to be fun, and if there’s anything else I may be of use for, let me know.
-
- December 29, 2012 at 5:04 AM
I’ll be the proxy for whomever long as the panel and AMV contest don’t run into each other. I make a point of being at the AMV contests anyway.
The conversion I did to AVI crushed the video pretty well, a lot of it is bloat in the size.
I have an AMV.org account too… not sure if it still works… probably. Once upon a time I was
a ripping Dual videos cough cough…
-
- December 30, 2012 at 7:21 AM
I have officially sent in my entry! :washu: Sometimes it really does pay if, when you are frustrated/tired, to stop and resume it the following day. With my head cleared, I got the format all set and figured out amv.org, so now I await some form of confirmation from the con staff that my entry has been submitted and approved.
Also
(here’s the important part): I listed you guys as my proxy– specifically Dagon, but if he’s busy with the panel, I tried to leave some wiggle room so that anyone of you forum reps going for the panel could hopefully go in his place (proxy for a proxy? lol). Wouldn’t want any of you to miss any of the panel if heaven forbid it is at the same time as the contest viewing, but if it is, it would be appreciated if somebody could duck out at least towards the end of the contest if at all possible.* Thaaaaaaaaaaaanks!
😉 *If not possible, nbd, I do this for fun and to get our friend boozinwalsh’s work (and mine lol) out there. I’m sure obtaining the prize itself isn’t anything too essential to my well-being (wait, this is assuming I win something, getting ahead of myself).

FFFFemo jk  Yes, I guess that makes us rivals! How exciting! Sorry took me so long, but I watched your amv and it is awesome. I think it’s got a good shot. In a way, I think it’s kind of opposite tone of my entry, so it will be interesting for the judges I’m sure.
Glad we’ve got some good representin’ for the forum!

what exactly will the panel do? discuss tenchi and spin-offs as well as the forum? wow, hi… n00b here. and i can’t believe i just typed ‘n00b’
i can take photos and such while you guys are panel-ing it up if you like.

- January 5, 2013 at 5:54 AM
That will be a great help spoke, I’m not sure if the camera can only take video in sections of 25 minutes anyway, so it’d have to be poked again. I’ll be getting a batch of stuff monday… oh the time crunch.
Chuck Dagon and I have pretty much figured out what we’re going to touch on and essentially we’re cramming as much as our mouths can say without sounding like an auctioneer in there.
Dagon’s got the intros, OVA/TU/movies, I’ve got the spin offs and japanese stuff. Chuck has the manga’s primarily.
-
- January 5, 2013 at 4:14 PM
Whoa, whoa, whoa, when you say you’re covering “Japanese stuff” does that include the doujins and novels? Because I was under the impression that these were part of my presentation material. The general description of my segment was the Printed World of Tenchi Muyo. Now with the doujins I could certainly use some help as youve seen WAY more of them than I ever have, but I’ve got the Kajishima OVA novels pretty well in hand on my own. I should have a solid outline of my part by the next time we all meet on mumble, so I think we should all work it out then. -
- January 7, 2013 at 6:04 PM

Well between me and dagon we’ve got 120 GB of memory card space, see what we can do. We did get a preliminary schedule from the con, looks like 2 am sat morning…
That can change though, don’t go scheduling any parades just yet.
Chuck, got a couple things we need to cover on the room, Bib is out, so we have a hole.

Yeah, well, it’s not like it’s up to us when our panel takes place; just gotta’ go with the schedule. On the plus side, the good thing about cons is there are a number of people who stay up late/pull all-nighters, and everyone is pretty much on their on schedule anyway. If people see something they really wanna’ attend, they’ll find time to sleep during events they’re not as interested in.
-
- January 11, 2013 at 9:14 AM
Who if you have any gusto left, please try to touch base with any of those we contacted in the campaign to spread the word about the panel…. I’ll be hunkering down trying to survive work and finish my preparations, so I may not be around much.
If someone needs me, e-mail me.
Chuck, need that powerpoint bud. Also let me know if I need to snag you at the airport.

Gotcha Z-man (weren’t too many that actually responded to begin with, so I’ve got plenty in my gusto reserves).
Also, at some point would you like an announcement on DevArt updating when the panel is? (I realize our time slot may be tentative at this point, so wouldn’t want to do it too soon). Or maybe at least an FYI that the panel is on/Ohayocon is this month for any stragglers.
Also, if there’s anything else you want me to do, let me know, you guys have worked so hard.

Sorry Lighthawk, I haven’t been on cosplay.com much, but as I’m looking at it here, it looks like at the top there is a “Search” tab. Hover over that, and you can search by member or by costume (the costume should likely be tagged by the uploader with the character
andthe series). Note: you might have to be registered to view photos.
Also,Z-man:DevART profile updated, should be good to go (stressed the stipulation “tentative” as well). -

Hi Julia, we found a couple outer members floating about. Post panel report:
Lots of people recognized yosho and we did have pictures of him and dessler.
The panel had about 25 fans show up. So it was a good showing.
Panel had a rough start, we lost some minutes, thanks to the previous panelists
not leaving the cables where they could be found.
Managed to record the first 30 and about last 15 of the panel. We didn’t have the camera
caught so we lost about the last 6 mins of my section on GXP, ISM, and doujinshi.
So there it is folks.

You guys, I can’t even put into words how proud I am of you. So much hard work and planning on your part really paid off, and you boldly went out there and proclaimed the good name of Tenchi for any and all to hear. What’s more, the implications for the forum and the fandom for us having an official panel at a well-established convention are sure to be significant. And you brought pics! :washu: You guys rock SOOOhard! On behalf of the fandom and the forum: thank you. I hope you had a great time! And I hope somewhere, sometime in the future, we as a forum could do something like this again sometime…& maybe I’ll be able to make it (I’m with ya there, ryokofan, wouldn’t that be killer?). p.s. Z-man: your Yosho is dynamite! Way to rock it! You too chuck!

Is the one in Atlanta, Dragon Con? I’ve always wanted to hit it up one of these days, as far as presenting the panel again? Well I have every intention of doing it next year at Ohayocon, but where it ends up next and with who, is anyone’s guess, lol

Awwwwww man, my eyes were closed in EVERY ONE of those pics! I swear guys, I WAS actually awake during the others’ segments of the panel! 😆 In all seriousness though, it was a pleasure and a privilege being part of the first official Tenchiforum panel! While it wasn’t perfect (more on that later maybe?), I think we succeeded in what we generally set out to do, and learned a great deal about panel running as well.Well, I might as well take a shot at unboxing my experience at Ohaycon for anyone who might be interested. First off, the con was amazing! Great panels, great cosplay, and a MINDBLOWINGLY good dealers room!
The most exciting part for me, aside from our panel of course, was my very first cosplay experience! I went as my favorite character from Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato:

I am very pleased with how well it turned out! I had several people recognize me, including the panelists at the Matsumoto panel which was awesome!
I mentioned the AMAZING dealer’s room right? Well just take a look at all the awesome loot I got!

http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/2013-01-20131756_zps55186fe6.jpg " /> OMG A Desslok figure! I literally lunged for this gem when I caught it out of the corner of my eye!
All in all, a fantastic con! It was also a great capstone having the War on Geminar announcements coming down at the very con we were at! It’s pretty cool that at both of the only two cons I’ve been to (Otakon 2012 & Ohayocon 2013) we got major Tenchi announcements! I must be our good luck charm! :Cheeks: Anyway, I’m very glad that I had the opportunity to go to this great con and meet up with some great people! -

Post panel report:
The panel had about 25 fans show up. So it was a good showing.
You know, I wish I would have gone to Ohayocon just to see your panel. But 2:30 in the morning? That’s Ohayocon for you, shoving quality programming to the middle of the night. I could go on for days about cons and their terrible programming scheduling.
I feel bad that you only got 25 fans, which is about what I got for each of my Tenchi panels. Mine were at smaller cons but at reasonable times of the day. There was a Tenchi panel at Ohayocon 2 years ago and it had probably about 50 people including Ayeka & Sasami cosplayers. But the people running it weren’t true Tenchi fans, they seemed to hate everything about Tenchi except Tenchi Forever.
