Thanks for the info Soundmonkey! (It’s good to see you again, btw ) Anyway, any idea why they decided to split the set into two? I mean that really sucks from a consumer point of view. They had no problem releasing the OVA blu-ray set as one volume and it contained the same amount of content, more or less. I certainly hope that they do eventually release it as a single volume, because at $45 a piece I’ve lost a lot of excitement about owning the series.

A bit less, actually. Just by running time the OVA clocks out at 420 minutes of content, while Geminar runs 590 minutes. Also, the OVA didn’t have to recoup the cost of its dub.

I’m sure they will eventually, it’d probably take another year. -

Thanks for the thanks, and yeah, sorry, I get brain dead some times, forget have the forums I join exsist.
😳 *And been severly addicted to Twitter lately, its an evil evil addictive thing! * But yeah, getting back on topic…..Really hope the dub for this turns out well, and probably pointless, but still hoping all the Tenchi stuff sales well enough to convince Funi to save Dual, and Magical Project S.

Revised with amazon.com images (thanks WTK!) 😎 FUNI’s re-using the Japanese Blu-Ray set art for the LE:

*le sigh*I guess this’ll be the blurb on the back of the boxes…Quote:Fifteen year old Kenshi Masaki was taken from his home planet, transported to a galaxy far, far away, and captured by a gorgeous princess! This royal beauty quickly claims Kenshi as her personal servant – and lends him out to all the lecherous ladies at her prestigious boarding school. On the rare occasion Kenshi doesn’t have his hands full with a curvaceous coed, he can be found training for the intergalactic mecha battle royale looming on the horizon. Helping the princess save her planet is Kenshi’s ticket home, but losing means he’ll be stuck scrubbing backs in the interstellar sauna for the rest of his life! Every boy should be so lucky.
P.S.- ^ cover arts updated!

Wow. Talk about sex appeal in marketing… I don’t think they could have used more “horny anime fan” buzzwords if they tried! There’s missing the point, and then there’s this… -
- February 20, 2013 at 7:16 PM
It almost makes it sound hentai in a way.Especially the phrase:”stuck scrubbing backs in the interstellar sauna..”Either that or a steamier version of UFO Princess Valkyrie(Kenshi I would like to introduce you to
Kazuto).

Indeed! After the utter lack of features in their recent releases, my interest in this set has just gone up significantly. Hopefully they continue the trend. -
- March 15, 2013 at 5:56 PM
I don’t think it’s just Tenchi. Some of the other Funi titles I’ve bought lately seem to also have a lack of much in the line of extras.Probably streamlining to make the product more cost effective for them.
Two things I hope they have on the War on Geminar DVDs are character bios and VA/Seiyuu interviews.

FUNi’s official trailer is up on their website.on the series pageIt… sure puts a big focus on the fanservice, but they didn’t forget to include some mecha action too. I’m a bit iffy on the music track though. Its seems to be a wierd remix of the music used for Funi’s Tenchi re-release trailers. It sounds very odd. Aside from that, the trailer does its job, I guess.
-
- March 22, 2013 at 6:10 PM
Yeah, they do that to some of their other titles like Rosario X Vampire as well, definitely trying for the 15-30 year old male demographic to purchase.Though the funny thing is those are the exact scenes that would be edited if it ever ran on Toonami.

And the award for most tasteless and offputting marketing campaign ever goes to……………..FUNimation! Come on up FUNI, you’ve earned this award!Wow…. in all seriousness….just wow. Seriously makes me NOT want to buy this set now. I still will (probably), but you can be damn sure I will have some choice words to put down on their product survey form.

I just don’t see the appeal. Humor is one thing, but this sorta thing just strikes me as crude more than anything else. It makes me hesitate to buy something that’s marketed like this because of the position it puts me in as a buyer. I mean, what kind of image of me does buying something sold like this put out there in society? I also resent that they’ve reduced this show to nothing more than a soft-core porno in their ad campaign. I simply feel that its a misrepresentation of a show which can easily stand on its own merrits rather than as a glorified T&A show. I know that its all business and designed to boost sales, but I just kind of find it insulting to me as a consumer. I suppose I’m probably culturally indisposed to this sort of thing, growing up in a puritanical rural atmosphere and that my sensibilities are perhaps a bit too “Victorian” for the times. Anyways, pay me no heed, I’m fine with being an outlier on this matter. EDIT: I just realized that my statement could easily be misinterpreted as very judgemental. I just want make sure that you guys know that I didn’t mean to imply that any of you are somehow pervy or crude in anyway. My statement and corncerns apply solely to myself

My copies arrived yesterday. The box is pretty nice looking. I’m not too impressed with their choices of artwork on the cases though, its all just Kenshi and the girls. The two best pieces of official art (IMO), and the only ones used in this set that actually show the mecha were grayscale and only on that cardboard spacer that reserves a spot for Part 2 🙄 Fortunately, one of those two, along with a third that also shows the mecha were included in that artbooklet.
I’m not too surprised though. It was obvious from their advertising campaign that they weren’t really pushing the sci-fi/mecha aspects of the show.

Thanks for the vid Nobuyuki! In other news, I GOT MY SET TODAY!!!! boopplz
I was browsing through my local suncoast for the final time before I leave it for good and I just had to buy it, even if they did massively overcharge me… I didn’t buy the second disc yet, as I wanted to at least pretend to save money over the summer, but I will be picking it up on Rightstuf presently. Now for my first impressions:
First off, I was very impressed with the art book and place holder. Unlike the books from the previous two SE sets, this book was filled with art that I actually mostly hadn’t seen before, which was very nice! The place holder is also pretty neat looking and holds up fine within the box.
Secondly, the box art is pretty nice. The design is creative and interesting enough, although perhaps a bit utilitarian, and the ladies are looking hot as ever, but thankfully not in a gratuitous way that I loathe.
Thirdly, OMG EXTRA FEATURES! Lol, but seriously, it is such a welcome change of pace to be able to sit back and enjoy some behind the scenes looks and making ofs on a Tenchi set!
Finally, I think the show looks splendid on Blu-ray. Definitely a product that was clearly born and raised in the Hi def era, and it shows in comparison with the other SE sets.
Well, now its time to sit back and enjoy the show all over again! I’ll probably post here again when I’ve had a chance to size up the dub a bit more.

Wait a minute chuck….you still got a Suncoast in your area? bth_Ayeka2 I’m still on the fence on wheter to order the first part of WOG or the first part of Inuyasha:The Final Act
or Blood-C or maybe even the first part of Penguindrum(why do I keep thinking of Burgess Meredith every
time I think of THAT title?
😆 )In any case I won’t be doing any ordering of any kind until the end of the month or after the Fourth.

😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 I happen to be a Kagome-addict.There I said it.Seriously this would be less of a problem for me if I were
still into dubs as I prefer Moneca Stori as Kagome the same way I prefer Amanda Winn Lee as Rei in
Neon Genesis Evangelion. But being more into subs…
Actually I really have been pondering wheter to wait a bit more on The Final Act and see if it’s actually
worth the purchase.
I probably will get WOG,but like I say not until the end of the month or after the Fourth. bth_Ryoko1

Ooh, I just got lucky. I’ve never got a lot of cash to throw at anime titles, and I don’t really do Blu-Ray, BUT…. a friend of mine cut a deal with me where he’ll chip in a third of the cost for the special boxed set and only keep the Blu-Ray discs. He’ll even rip the HD A/V and give me a copy, and since I’ll get the cases and art books… WOOT!

I FINALLY picked up my copy over the weekend (Parts 1 & 2 ). So I can finally join in on the conversations about this show. I can’t wait. -
- June 23, 2013 at 8:17 AM
^I’m looking to do the same, ryokofan. I’ve been scooping up funi’s re-releases at BestBuy, but idk if it’s just my local branch or on a broader scale (the latter more likely) but BestBuy is reeeeeallyscaling back their anime section, maybe even looking to phase it out. Went back recently and saw Geminarbut couldn’t really justify purchasing atm (now I’m thinking I shouldhave) but all the other Tenchi stuff they had only a short while ago–Universe, TiT, movie collection, ova–is all gone. tl;dr I hope I can get my hands on some dinero and then on box set of
Geminarbefore the next cast! -
- June 23, 2013 at 10:45 PM
No a lot more stores are doing that. I know the one in Knoxville i got to is definitely scaling back the anime section. When I bought Geminar i got the last copies of both parts, and what was left was just sad. They’ve disappointed me over the years as far as their anime selection goes. But on a brighter note, I am committing myself to watching Geminar this week so I can make the podcast on Saturday.
I can’t wait for it. -

Currently there is not a complete set available or been announced, but there more than likely will be one eventually.
You can get both parts 1 and 2 BD/DVD Combo from Right Stuf (with free shipping) for around 62 bucks.

Yeah dunno about future plans, but at least with the two part sets they’re selling now, part 1 comes with a box that you can then put part one and two in together. -

“Yeah but we should have the ability to put them together.”

iloveit1 Seriously though why is it that some titles are split up like that while others are bundled in a single set?
I don’t think it has anything to do with economics as wouldn’t the bundling in a single set be cheaper than trying to produce two different sets?

Better price wise for the customer? Yes
Better for the Producer/Licensor? Not even close
Anime Limited (Who are the new Upstart UK Licensor who released Cowboy Bebop on Blu-ray) said on their site when asked about why not just release a complete set first, said that while many people prefer the full sets, the price they would have had to release it at to barely break even would have been 90 USD, and most people hesitate over 50 USD. They said it’s a cheaper and safer way of guaranteeing they will make their production money back by splitting it into 2 (or multiple) parts because people won’t have to pay the full price of a complete set and be more enticed to buy the second half if they have the first.

So these sets where only released in the DVD/BD combopack? That’s a bit of a shame as the Blu ray is region 1 so I’m only really after the DVD’s (though I would love to be able to buy the Tenchi Blu-rays if they played, a lot of anime blu-rays I buy are region 2 also but the Tenchi ones are not which is a bummer). Hopefully there will be a DVD only set released for these. -

FUNi splitting apart the formats is highly unlikely. You should know, however, that the price difference between Combo Packs and standalone DVD and BD sets is only about $5 or $10 anyways.
-
- April 23, 2014 at 5:49 PM
That would be nice but unlikely right now.For someone like me who has limited space having a complete series versus one that is divided into two would be more desirable.( Buso Renkinand Inuyasha:The Final Actare two other examples of a series being split in two.The first I already own and the second I just ordered the first part to.)
