The location of the Masaki Shrine is a puzzle for me. The Shrine is supposed to be located somewhere in the mountains of Okayama Prefecture. In the first episode of TM: Ryo-Ohki OVA3, Tenchi had taken a train to Kurashiiki City. This means that the Shrine is located closer to Kurashiki City.

A lot of hills are around the Shrine. The Shrine is located halfway a top of a hill. Also, it is located near a large town. The Shrine has two purposes. One of the purposes was to be hold the demon Ryoko in a cave cell. The second purpose of the shrine is focus on the worship of a Kami. The name of which Kami is not known. There was likely another shrine built on the same site of the present shrine. The crash of Ryo-Ohki had likely destroyed the first shrine.

Since the announcement of the new series, it is likely that the town where the shrine is located near Takahashi, Japan. Tenchi’s home and the Shrine are located on a large estate which belongs to the Shrine itself. Most of the estate is a large nature preserve. Some farm fields are located on the estate, too.

There is actual Masaki Shrine. Yet, Masaki Kajishima had based his design for the fictional Masaki Shrine on another shrine located in Okayama Prefecture.

We are aware of the fact that Tenchi’s home is located near the Masaki Shrine and a lake. The Masaki Shrine and the lake are located in a large nature preserve. The nature preserve have likely been a part of a larger estate which the Masaki Family had once own. Since there are some fields located next to he Masaki Shrine, rest of the former estate was likely divided into farms which most belong to members of the Masaki Family, and smaller estates.

There are other residences located around the area where the Masaki Shrine is located. One of the residences may happen to be the one own by Taro’s grandmother. Tao’s gandmother is one of Tenchi’s aunts. Because the Masaki Family happens to be one of Japan’s most powerful and wealthiest families, there is likely a large country mansion located somewhere near Tenchi’s place and the Masaki Shrine.

The exact location of Tenchi’s place was partially known. A clue from GXP states that there is a large town located near Tenchi’s place. The town has a large population sufficent to support the large super maket own by the Yamada Family. The name of the town was not given.

From another clue in the first OVA 3 episode, Tenchi’s place is loacted within a reasonable walking distance from there. The location of the the town seem to be within a half hour distance from the Kurashiki City train station. The town is located along the Hakubi line. The town is likely Takahashi, Japan.

While Takahashi City Japan is helping to promote the new Tenchi Muyo series, it seem that the town may not be the one located near Tenchi’s home. Takahashi City had not exist until 2004. The city was a merger between the town of Takahashi and four other towns. Before 2004, Takahashi was a large town. From one of the Google maps, Takahashi City is located within a half hour from Kurashiki City.

The exact location of Tenchi’s place is still a puzzle. From the best clues available to us, the town located near Tenchi’s home is a large town. That large town happen to be the former town of Takahashi, Japan. Now, Tenchi’s home is likely inside the city limits of Modern Day Takahashi City, Japan.

Admiral Tigerclaw did some good thinking and came up with one likely answer.

His explanation can be found in this appendix under section B:1.

      The GPS coordinates he listed: 34° 41′ 29.53″ N 133° 38′ 42.75″ E

Just felt like tossing that out there. >shrug<

Admiral Tigerclaw did focus on the remoteness where Tenchi’s home is located. He pointed out that the lake is located outside Soja Japan. In Episode 1 of TM: GXP, Seina was taking a shortcut in order to get to Kai’s house. The shortcut which Seina had taken was outside the town’s limits. Seina was basically traveling to one part of the town to another part. Before Seina came to Kai’s house, he had found himself traveling down a hill.

During the Nineteen-nineties, Tenxhi’s home was outside the nearest town. Oddly, Tenchi’s home is located within a few minutes from a train station. So, Tenchi’s home happens to be located near the Hakubi Line.

The Hakubi Line is one of the best clues to figuring out the best location of Tenchi’s home. For me, I had chosen Takahashi as the town located near Tenchi’s home. I will still agreed with Admiral Tigerclaw’s choice of Soja Japan for being the town located near Tenchi’s home.
