however i’ll need to modify an N64 in order to play them. In case you’re wondering a North American N64 (NTSC) CAN play Japanese N64 games (NTSC-J) with a minor hardware modification. Instead of modifying my existing N64 I plan on building my own portable, region free N64 to play these games on.
How hard is it to modify an N64 to be region-free? I’ve been planning for awhile to pick one up after Christmas, and ever since you told me about it I’ve been thinking of getting that Eva game off eBay. BTW how much each of those games cost you?
It’s not hard at all to modify. Here’s a video that shows you how to do it. [BBvideo 425,350]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNljGM3WOfs[/BBvideo] The thing with an N64 is that there is no region lockout chip. The game paks are shaped differently between the two regions thus the need for the modification.
Evangelion I paid $50 for. I got lucky because it’s complete and was the only one being offered on eBay from a U.S. seller at the time.
Pokemon Stadium (the original that never saw an international release) I paid $20 for on eBay from the same seller.
