So I just finished reading all of the translated, but trimmed down versions of the novels, and I thought I should post the links here for those who were interested.

      Here’s the one for Jurai

Indeed, thanks for making the effort to share with us Amitav! I suppose this can be the official “Novel fan thread” then. I suppose I’ll start off simply by saying that I liked the Washu novel much more than the other too. It was extremely fascinating in its look at Washu’s past and her motivations for doing what she does in the show. I’ll probably have more to say later, but for now lets hear from someone else :D

Coincidentally I asked Seven Seas about these 3 novels on their Tumblr afew days ago. Heres what they said, though it doesn’t paint a very bright future for the possibility of the nevels being licensed. And just FYI, I totally forgot Kajishima also wrote those GXP novels, though I only intended to ask about the 3 old ones anyways.

      Quote:

Q:I’ve got a question about Tenchi light novels. I hear series length often cited as a major reason why LNs are often too risky to be licensed, but I was curious how much age played into this too. There are quite a few Tenchi novels out there but only 3 were written by Kajishima himself and considered canon. Only 3, but they’re all from the late 90’s. Do you think there’s any chance at this point that anyone (not necessarily 7Seas) might consider at least picking up the those 3 Tenchi novels?

As a huge Tenchi fan, I begged and begged for those three novels back when we were actively going after light novels for our light novel imprint. And then the market crashed and we couldn’t even put out half the light novels we had the rights for. But even then, Tenchi-Muyo! has never really done that well in print (and it’s a very old property now, too), so they’re not really something we could put out in today’s market. —AA

I see that ANB posed another (albeit not entirely serious) question regarding Tenchi novels shortly after I did.

The thing is, if I do win the big lottery, you can bet that I will be getting in contact with Adam to do this. After all, it would be a vanity project for me that other hardcore fans would benefit from. Returns wouldn’t be on my mind, and I’d have it arranged so that Seven Seas was covered financially so that there would be no loss on their end no matter if I were the only one to purchase a book.

As an aside, Adam and I did discuss the Shin Tenchi Muyo novels years ago. I remember getting very excited that the novels would come over and I believe I probably expressed that to some extent without stating my specific reasons why (for obvious reasons). Then he gave me the bad news that it wasn’t going to happen. I was pretty bummed to be sure, but it was a good, eye opening experience for me.

That was then, this is now:

      Quote:

Based on the hit Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OVA series, this trilogy of canonical light novels explores the lore that shapes the past, present, and future of the sprawling Tenchi Muyo universe.

Seven Seas will publish the True Tenchi Muyo! light novel series for the first time in North America in print and on digital platforms in single volume editions. Volume 1 will be released on June 19, 2018 for $14.99 USA / $17.99 CAN.

Where we are, been, and going: nowhere

Although the novels that just hung around and that other fans claimed as the most important things in the franchise are getting to English finally. Though I think they should knock the price down to 8 or 9 bucks since it took them about 2 decades to get around to it. I have half a bet that they are promoting these books to push for OVA 5.

      Probably.

Time to give everyone an opportunity to get up to speed.
