The kanji under the picture doesn’t match Kajishima’s.

I think it’s this guy. (TM! movie producer)

Always so shiny and pretty looking. Maybe if I can make more money at work, someday I’ll be able to post one in this forum. Only Tenchi cel I ever saw at a convention was $500 -_-.

Cels from Japan back when Animaxis carried them, were around $40 + shipping.

      Hankens though… $800 to $20,000

I’m waiting until I get back to Japan… or I see something exciting on Ebay, but I really don’t like buying things off of there.

I love the last cel you listed. Even though I only own Kiyone cels I’d make room for that one :Cheeks:

Ah..your one of those are you ? heh I have to say Kiyone doesn’t get nearly the love she should.

The Daughter of Darkness one ? Yeah I really like that one..loved the outfits she wore in it and it’s quite large. I think I have 3 or 4 from that movie. My biggest complaint in that film was Tenchi slapping Ryoko..there wasn’t really a need to do that from what I could tell. So many better ways to handle the situation.

heh, yeah I mean if he had just grabbed both her hands and stared into her eyes..that would have stopped her I’m sure. Looks can communicate so much.

Ah, yeah I recall that scene I think..been forever since I saw it though. Kiyone cels were fairly easy to acquire way back when..I recall seeing quite a few of them.

That’s cool..she doesn’t have nearly the following she should have, she isn’t loud and out there jumping in front of the camera in every scene , she does a lot to keep the others in check and act as balancing factor. Can’t figure why they didn’t just bring her in somehow in OVA3 instead of a new character.

If interested I’m seriously considering selling a few of them, shoot me a PM if interested. ;)

I think violence should be a last resort..especially if you care about the person. Tenchi was stressed I suppose but I still think running up and hugging her would have been odd enough to make stop and think.

I am at Otakon at the Funimation panel, and Tenchi Universe/Tokyo will be released on DVD by the end of the year… But bigger news…

Saint Knights Tale will be released as Tenchi Muyo; War On Geminar. I will re-edit this later but here is your update.

LOL I called the name on SKT….

Wow that’s… a major title shift. At least we’re getting something I guess.

Funimation has acquired the streaming, broadcast, home entertainment, video on demand, pay-per-view, and DTO/DTR rights to the Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar video anime series. With this series, Funimation has now acquired the streaming, home entertainment, theatrical, and merchandise rights to the complete Tenchi Muyo! anime franchise. Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar is set in an alternate world called Geminar, where countries have fought endless wars with replicas of humanoid Seikishi weapons that they found in ancient ruins. 15-year-old Kenshi Masaki, the half-brother of Tenchi Muyo! protagonist Tenchi Masaki, is summoned from Earth to Geminar. The 13-episode original video anime series was originally released in 2009-2010.

      Official announcement – http://www.funimation.com/rojas/blog/funimation-entertainment-announces-multiple-otakon-acquisitions/4470621

      From crunchyroll:

FUNimation’s Otakon 2012 panel just ended, and the company had plenty to announce as far as licenses and upcoming releases are concerned. License announcements kicked off with the Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar spin-off OVA series—which takes place 15 years after Tenchi Muyo! GXP—and then quickly snowballed from there.

FUNimation’s synopsis of Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar:

Kenshi – half-brother of intergalactic hero Tenchi Masaki – has been summoned to the mysterious world of Geminar, and his only hope of returning to Earth is piloting a bio-mechanical weapon in a shocking assassination attempt! When the mission fails and Kenshi is captured, he discovers he’s been lied to by the very culprits who transported him to this strange new world. Luckily, Princess Lashara kindly welcomes Kenshi and invites him to live amongst her followers. Now, caught up in a political whirlwind – and hotly pursued by Geminar’s female population – Kenshi must find a way to get home while civil war erupts all around him!

In addition to Geminar, the company also scored streaming, home entertainment, theatrical, and merchandise rights to the complete Tenchi Muyo! franchise.

I just read the news over at astronerdboy’s blog.I wonder when they DVDs are going to come out now.

Also does anyone know why Funi went with War on Geminar instead of Saint Knight’s Tale for the English

      language title?

Interesting ANB states that War on Geminar will not have the Japanese honorifics in the subtitles.

Put it on my need to get right away list. :washu: :washu: :washu:

Not sure. I’m wondering if they are doing a blu-ray version too. I’ll try to find out.

      Quote:

I’ll see if I can get an official answer, but a lot of times, the Japanese have a say in what the English title will be. Plus, but tagging it with the “Tenchi Muyo!” moniker, FUNimation is helping bridge the connection to the original OVAs.

Well, it is not 100% sure that we won’t have them, but I’ll tag it as 99%. A few years ago, FUNimation got a new person in charge of the translations, and this person strongly believes that leaving Japanese honorifics in the subtitles is lazy, thus this person doesn’t allow it. Since one has to pick their battles, the people within FUNi who may prefer honorifics be retained like they used to be haven’t raised a stink, saving their ammo for other fights with higher value (if that makes sense).

Still, once FUNimation shifted to the current “no honorifics” policy, you may have noticed that I no longer trumpet FUNimation stuff. Obviously, ISM falls under the “exception to the rule” category. 😉

It was really fun being in the room when they announced the new Tenchi DVD releases and the ISM release. I think only myself and Mittens knew of ISM’s existence before that moment, and the excitement the crowd showed over a “new” Tenchi series was amazing! I only hope that we too can be experiencing that sensation with an actual new release soon! Fingers crossed!

*lol* Yeah, I admit that I don’t get to hit forums like I used to. Heck, I barely show up at FUNimation’s forums just to do MOD work. ^_^; (Though part of that is due to their site being terrible on lag to get the servers to respond to a click.)

Still, thanks for bringing me back over here. And yeah, I know I need to get the URL for this forum updated on the site. Believe it or not, I do have a sticky on my upper monitor to remind me. ^_^;;;; These days, when I get time off, I often don’t even want to do anything productive (which is why the FAQ site upgrade hasn’t happened yet).

You know, I actually got up early just to get the live transcript for the panel, so I could hit “publish” seconds after the word officially came from FUNimation’s lips regarding ISM (or as I should now say, “WoG”). I was highly disappointed that nearly 45-minutes of the panel was wasted on saying stuff that almost everyone in the room already knew. From a marketing point of view, I can’t imagine this gaining any extra sales. Folks there are (1) already fans of FUNimation products and (2) already well versed on when the titles they want to buy are being released. However, FUNi knows that everyone is there for the new license announcements, so why not hold them captive and repeat what we’ve already said at previous cons?

So, was it you guys who asked the first question (which was Tenchi related)?

Another great point of this whole thing is that Funimation apparently has the rights to distribute ALL of Tenchi in ALL mediums. This means that we may soon see classic Tenchi back on TV, dare I say Toonami even! imcryingsomuchplz

as far as “War on Geminar”, while It’s not exactly Saint Knight’s Tale, I can see why it was done and it’s a good title

I find it funny (or FUNi lol) that they used the same cover and side pics as the bootleg company “fx” used way back in the day

I’m always alive, just depends on “where” I’m alive at. *lol* It usually is easy to be “alive” on Twitter, even at work. Then, there are times when I’ve just got to play the Facebook game “War Metal,” ’cause that’s how I roll. ^_~

*LOL* Now that is funny. I hadn’t gone out looking for covers to date. Hmmm…pondering on whether I want to pick up TU or not. I used to own the old Pioneer box set back in the day, but it got purged along with a lot of other stuff to help pay medical bills several years ago.

Tenchi Muyo! Universe – Box Set (DVD)

      16th October 2012 | Hybrid Dub | $39.98 | 650 Minutes

In the beginning, there was Tenchi…..

Back when the only cure for an anime fix was a trip to the mall to load up on VHS tapes. Back when Toonami and Cartoon Network first introduced this amazing new genre to American fans. The times may have changed since those good old days, but we’re thrilled to be bringing Tenchi back! A true classic never goes out of style, and Tenchi is the original anime harem comedy the started it all.

Everyone’s favorite luckless hero is back for more intergalactic hijinks in Tenchi Universe, an alternate universe retelling of the original Tenchi canon. Seventeen-year-old Tenchi Masaki is a regular guy whose life takes a turn for the outrageous when Ryoko the stunning space pirate crashes at his grandfather’s shrine. In the bat of an eye, Tenchi finds himself surrounded by a bevy of bodacious intergalactic beauties who’ll do everything they can to make him late for class.

      That is weirdly ironic, kinda’.

But it is official artwork, and FX had to steal it from somewhere… 😉

Not sure. I’m wondering if they are doing a blu-ray version too. I’ll try to find out.

Based on observations regarding shows that don’t involve Geneon, I’d guess 6-8 months for subtitled streaming, 10-13 months for a physical release.

      YMMV. :Cheeks:

      Points up. It’s TU, but that’s October….

I wouldn’t expect them to do Blu right off the bat. DVD is cheaper, more widely available still.

Besides this gives them more time to secure whatever they need to do a simul-release of both the blu and dvd for OVA, and tout it as their ultimate collection.

or… they do all DVDs, then come back around on Blu ray and try to put the screws to everyone for a second box of discs later.

This is certainly great news! Not only do FUni provide once hard to find DVDs, but they also decide to dub SKT, which both should provide Tenchi with a boost in popularity again

ofc.. what does this matter to me with my 10th anniversary set? hawrhawrplz

I only own the second and third OAV dvds and the three movies, and being honest with you guys I lost 3/5 of them … @_@ SO THIS IS SO EXCITING! CANNOT WAIT TO BUY THEM! Well… I can wait for spending money because I’m poor, can’t wait to have my hands all over those beautiful DVDs :)
      😆

I’d like to meet an otaku on this or any forum that was super rich! 😆

I’m in the same boat, which is why I have to pick and choose what I order or buy.

It’s hard when you have your heart set on say both Squid Girl and also the Wedding Peach manga and know in the end you can only order one.

Or as they say in HIGHLANDER:’In The End There Can Be Only One!’

      OK, I have some answers.

On the blu-ray front, nothing has been stated yet, so we don’t know if WoG will get a BD release as well as a DVD one.

On the name, it was a marketing thing, which makes sense. As suspected, tagging it “Tenchi Muyo” links it to the franchise (which makes total sense to me since there are a lot of casual anime fans who won’t make the same connection). “War on Geminar” does state what the series is about, plus it throws in an action element into the title that “Saint Knight’s Tale” would not. As I said, it makes sense to me.

For those who may have been curious (I’ve had people ask), FUNimation doesn’t have either “Pretty Sammy” title, so they have almost everything Tenchi.

ANB please check if dual is part of the deal…

I highly doubt it; same with Photon.
I wonder if they had Dual if they would leave the dub alone or re-cast.I can’t see anyone but Michelle

Ruff as Mitsuki Sanada in the English language version,it would be so wrong to do a re-cast like that.

In Right Stuf parlance, it’s a video disc with both English-language and Japanese-language audio tracks.

English dub + Jap dub + English subs = hybrid disc
Hybrids are popular because a lot of people don’t like Sub or Dub only DVDs.

I know, lol I was merely stating what I did because I had always known THAT to be a Hybrid DVD, and that having a dub/sub DVD was just standard (I also wondered about the title of a “Hybrid DVD” because many Pioneer/ Geneon discs were both Region 1 and Region 4 compatible) But yes, that does make sense.

For those wondering, FUNimation does NOT have either Pretty Sammy titles, nor any of the offshoots like Photon or Dual! I’ve no clue on whether they would or not. Assuming WoG does well, I could ping them about the Kajishima-angle for licensing Photon and Dual! (at the very least).

While it would be nice to see Dual on the market again, or even distributed… here’s a better question.

Me and Dagon were talking, and I’ve noticed that the OVA on Hulu, is a new sub, which more closely matches the Eng dub.

Now if Funi got the rights to the blu-ray footage, but not the En dub, they may well be planning to redub all of the OVA like they did with 3 and GXP, after all, it is taking them longer to release the discs for it than the other series. Plus they already did OVA 3 and GXP, so why have the separation there, when it’s cheaper to get it without the VAs, and half of it is already done (2 of 4 parts).

TU may have the original dub, and it can be just shrugged off as being an alternate series and may not have been as expensive to license. But the issue remains, why toss up GXP online, and TU out the door first if you’re promoting everything as the OVA, yet it’s taking a back seat?

So for fear of more Mona as Ryoko, I’d be asking Funi what they are doing on that dub. Dual can come after that. Don’t think I could stomach MitsukiS as someone else.

Neither could anyone else that’s a serious Dual fan.

Someone asked at the Q n A if they would redub their Geneon releases, and Funimation said no. Though I don’t think any of us would mind if they redubbed Tokyo, it’s horrid (kind of joking there). I’ll wait until I see the new DVDs. Don’t they usually post subs before dubs (on Youtube and Hulu)? Also someone asked on the Funi boards and was told that they don’t usually redub titles they acquire unless that dub is really really bad. I was also worried with their re-release of Lain, but that was a decent dub with a lot of the same voice work from Chobits, other shows they’ve gotten. I don’t think they will mess with it (Chobits was originally Geneon too).

Either way *pats Pioneer/Geneon Universe and OVA 1-2 DVDs*
