      T-Minus 11 days people…

Time to start thinking about gathering your stuff slowly but surely,

figuring out what you want to see at the con…

      Myself:

Beeline to the Aniplex booth to pick up many SAO items.

      Yoko Kanno concert (maybe)

      Kenshin Live Action movie (maybe)

      Find Sully w/Funimation booth

      Find Toradora

Really the only things I have planned/want to do are getting some things signed by Shinichiro Watanabe and Crispin Freeman, other than that I’ll just be chilling with the gang there and going to any panels that look interesting

Looks like Yoko Kanno’s Performance is the main event on Sunday according to ANN

Indeed! I’m bringing my Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex set to be signed by Crispin Freeman (Togusa), and Yoko Kanno on the extremely off chance she is signing. I’m also bringing my LE Geminar set to be signed by Jad (I know there’s a crazy punctuation mark in there) Saxton, the voice of Lashara. Who knows, maybe I can strike up a Tenchi conversation with her and get her to appear on the next interview cast! Other than those things, I’m pretty free for the rest of the con. I’m going to be keeping my ear to the ground for any info on Yamato/Star Blazers 2199 (Man I hope they screen the English dubbed ep there!). Of course I will also be taking group photos with the rest of our mighty Dual cosplay ensemble!

I hope the schedule comes out sometime this weekend to let us know if she is or isn’t signing, because I’m not sure I’ll be able to resist the urge to NOT bring my RahXephon set to get it signed if she is FFFFemo

Looks like some good stuff at times and places all over the map! I suggest those of us going should start laying out our own plans so we can figure out the best way to see everything we want to. To everyone who isn’t going, feel free to make suggestions as to what panels/events you think look cool!

Well the war on geminar showing is too close to our departure time for 3 of us to make.

Nothing stopping mittens, or chuck coming back to see if funi does anything though.

BWI also has a weird thing where you need to checkin your luggage 45 mins prior to departure

or it may not end up on the same plane…

Mostly AMV contest, and movies.. only 2-3 panels interest me.

So much cool stuff! Shinichiro Watanabe will be there?! Lawdy I can’t image the line! & Yoko’s performance would be so awesome if we’re able to make it (which, if it’s on Sunday, well I’m not holding my breath). I just want to go wherever the gang takes me. Just getting there (& back) will be reward enough for me.

EDIT: Follow up question, are we thinking about doing a live Tenchicast while many of us will be conveniently in the same place? I heard talk of Photon (if we watch the series while we’re there) & there’s also the slight possibility if something Tenchi/Geminar related is announced, we could have a discussion about it immediately, & maybe throw in something pertaining to Miss Saxton if any of us get to meet her quick/sign stuff.

I had every intention of bringing my nice mic to record stuff for the event, regardless of if something was announced or not

It’s been so long since I visited! but I saw from the fb fan page people will be there, woo! I saw a couple of you guys at Ohayocon :) I’m going to Otakon, too! Woo! My first out of state con! I REALLY want to see TMR, going to his concert for sure. I’ll be cosplaying Homura on… I think it’s saturday? and then wearing a goofy “Ohtori twerk team” shirt the next day I think xD (my friend got the cosplays together and I am just gonna wear them on the days she wants to).

Hope to see some of you guys :)

As it is Sunday morning, I shall share my thoughts on Otakon. What an amazing three days it has been. I have really enjoyed meeting and hanging out with the rest of the Tenchiforum crew. Hope the crowds didn’t turn you off :) Panels… Some of the ones I saw… Aniplex and Funimation panels, Toonami (nostalgiaaaaa), something titled “Worst Anime Ever” and 80s Anime… Also a lot of Sword Art Online. I went to a viewing of episodes 1-2 dubbed, I also got my box set signed. Crowds, linessss… But I ran into a ton of people I knew, not awkward ones and there were great cosplays. I did see a Ryoko and Washu but they couldn’t stop for a photo as they were heading to the Saturday concert. Baltimore… I love it. Dealers room… My wallet is unhappy but I am happy.

Things that could improve= I need to cosplay more and not procrastinate. Otakon has gotten too crowded, it was in 2009 but now it’s pushing 40,000 and the BCC, though an awesome host, doesn’t always handle that gracefully. Staff were wonderful, but didn’t always know how to control lines or crowds. Accessibility minor complaint… Escalators weren’t always working and those that did were sometimes off limits. Would speed up moving around.

That’s all for now. Will post my loot when I’m back home.

What an amazing weekend it was! I just got back home not too long ago, and I have to say that my first time at Otakon (and my first time in Baltimore for that matter) were really awesome. Before I go into anything else

If you highlight over the “forum” button at the top, you will see a dropdown with “Meetups” in it, this is where the video and pictures for Otakon will be going (as well as Youtube and facebook) πŸ˜‰ )

These were pretty much my only gripes, the lines and overall speed and control of the masses was pretty bad, especially if you were in signing lines. Between myself, Chuck, JG and Who, we got cut out of probably 5 or 6 panels simply because the staff didn’t regulate the lines until literally the last minute.

Other than that (and the horribly expensive parking and food, lol) It was an amazing experience and I thank everybody from the forum who was there who made it so great.

ALSO, swag pics will be coming soon!

Otakon 2013 was a great experience all around! I loved hanging out with my fellow Tenchi fans, meeting tons of fellow anime lovers and industry pros, and once again dropping mad cash in the dealers room (although for the first time I managed to leave with SOME money left in my pocket, lol)! I couldn’t have asked for a better send off before I launch myself into three years of intense law school work. There’s so much that we did and saw at Otakon for me to even begin to describe it all tonight, so I will simply begin my roundup with a showing of all the cool swag I picked up this time around!

First up is the signature of WoG’s very own Jad Saxton, who voiced Lashara! She was very nice, and I gave her a forum card and invited her to do an interview with us whenever she wants, so we’ll see what comes of that :D

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_221107_zps7e65da26.jpg" />

Next up is this lovely Rei figure, which now joins the Asuka and Desslock figures I picked up at Ohayocon.

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_220918_zpsad07a344.jpg" />

I picked up the NERV shirt while still in a haze of awestruck bliss after catching the Evangelion 3.0 screening on Friday night, and the swanky looking Tenchiforum.com shirt came from our very own Dagon123 :)

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_215937_zps0445e5f5.jpg" />

This Yamato model kit is a vintage Japanese product from the earliest days of the franchise and a true “diamond in the rough” find!

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_220103_zps9c642d3b.jpg" />

I really hit paydirt with this Yamato book. It’s a complete scene for scene breakdown of the second (and best) Yamato movie, complete with staff essays (in Japanese :( ) and mechanical designs for all vehicles, weapons, and characters in the movie!

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_221455_zpsdaf23f6e.jpg" />

Because deep down I’m a glutton for punishment I bought the fantastic(ly depressing) Ghibli film “Grave of the Fireflies,” continuing my streak of purchasing one Ghibli film per con I attend.

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_215716_zps76f99c51.jpg" />

I got this poster free from the FUNi booth and then had it signed by Micah Solusod, Mike McFarland, and Jad Saxton, all of whom worked on the dub of “Wolf Children.”

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_232042_zpsa129cf48.jpg" />

Speaking of signing, Crispin Freeman’s autograph now joins that of Richard Epcar on the cover of my GiTS:SAC set. It was a nightmare getting into that signing though…

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_215528_zps6cecf48b.jpg" />

Finally, my personal favorite buy of Otakon 2013 is this beautiful Asuka wall scroll. This was the first wall scroll I’ve ever encountered that I felt compelled to buy at first glimpse. I generally find anime wall scrolls to be cheesy at best and downright pornographic at worst, but this one actually fits wonderfully along side some of the classical art prints hanging on my walls. I guess you could call it the “redheaded stepchild” of wall scrolls πŸ˜†

      Stuff Time!

I didn’t get a whole lot, but what I did get was heavily influenced by the screening of Eva 3.0 as you’ll see, lol

      http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q262/Dagon123/20130812_011502_zps8d33c750.jpg" />

First up was Eva 2.22 on blu-ray, yes, 3.0 was so good it had me break my now 3 year stand of refusing to buy another FUNi product, lol. (Though you’d be surprised how hard it was to find the slip-cover version, that was the only one I found, and If it wasn’t for Chuck’s great sight I wouldn’t have gotten it at all).

      http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q262/Dagon123/20130812_012409_zps7fff035b.jpg" />

These figures are my first eva figures of any kind, I got 2 Asukas because I just can’t resist those plugsuits (sadly I couldn’t find the Rei one that goes with it)

      http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q262/Dagon123/20130812_011542_zps8d5000e3.jpg" />

This was signed by Crispin Freemen who played Spark, me and chuck almost didn’t get our stuff signed TWICE while in this line.

      http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q262/Dagon123/20130812_011707_zpsfbab7394.jpg" />

There was no way I was going to pass up meeting the director of Cowboy Bebop.

      http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q262/Dagon123/20130812_021446_zpsfa5e751f.jpg" />

Notice something familiar? lol Just like Chuck, I was amazed at how awesome this wall scroll was, so of course I had to have it.

Nice stuff! That Wolf children anime looks interesting. Might just watch it :)

Seeing all these amazing voice actors and such only makes me feel more bitter to you lot XD With only a few days left till our con there’s no sign of a single VA. Just a J-pop band, expert cosplayer, Akemi (who comes every year), and the lovable Matt Mercer.

It’s cosplay time! One of the things that makes Otakon such a great con is the sheer number of cosplayers. Most of them are from the mega popular and more recent shows, even so there is always a good chance of seeing an obscure show being represented. Because of this, and the fact that it was very difficult to flag down cosplayers for photo ops, I only snapped pics of the ones I thought were either simply too well done to pass up on, or were truly unique and from shows near and dear to my heart. So without further ado I present chucklocker’s cosplay pics from Otakon 2013!

      http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130809_160643_zpsb2c4bed3.jpg" />

How could I not start this list with Tenchi? This guy’s lighthawk armor was amazing, especially the light-up lighthawk wing XD. I gave up my spot in the massively long AMV Contest line to chase this guy down for a photo op lol.

There were a ton of Sailor Moon cosplayers this year, but these groups stood out from the rest. There was a Sailor Saturn with the bottom group, making it a complete set, but she seemed photo shy.

Tenchi Takes Otakon is indescribable for me. So much awesome in one weekend, and so many new experiences for me: Otakon itself, meeting up with certain friends in person for the first time, even going to the East coast were all brand new experiences for me, and I will never forget them.

Thanks to everyone who attended with me, and making this a life experience I will always remember fondly. You guys are so unbelievably awesome.

We probably posted (will be) somewhere regarding announcements/info we acquired during our time at the con (FUNi picking up some big name titles, for instance) so for here, because words fail me to describe my trip further, here are some of my swag pics.

Had to pick this up (well, okay, it was impulse, but I digress), wanted to get it the day it came out (6th) but real life popped in for a visit, so I had to wait (figured I’d wait til after the con, but like I said, impulse, and as chuck has previously described, walking into that stadium that is the dealer’s room for the first time, your senses leave you).

Another one I’ve really been itching to own for some time, I can finally enjoy the goodness that is School Rumble proper!

Thanks be to Dagon for recommending this to me. A fun, four-episode quickie that I’m saving for a rainy day. When a certain someone described it as having a somewhat “Tenchi-eque, adventure feel” I was sold.
      http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g463/wwwwhhhhoooo/Tenchiforum%20Banners/82964dc3-ce77-475d-8bb8-e8b18b278c23_zpse77e51be.jpg" />

      Free and purchased con swag:

      http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i410/kitteascone/Otakon_zpsdc308752.jpg" />

I got five Tenchi manga, two Oh My Goddess, War on Geminar parts 1 and 2, Photon, Sword Art Online (which is signed inside) and Whisper of the Heart. I basically handed Funimation my wallet with the Geminar purchase, so I got a Funi lanyard and water bottle. And of course my con badge :) As always, Kiyami.

      Oh yeah, and two cels:

It is without a doubt my favorite Ghibli movie, probably my favorite animated movie, and certainly one of my favorite movies of all time. Good finds with the Tenchi manga, I wish I had looked more thoroughly for them myself…

Oh so if I made a return trip to Acen, I could meet the Harls himself in the flesh…

      :Cheeks:

Fuck Acen, come to NDK where guns and weed are legal and both are enjoyed to the fullest extent.

      Yee-fucking-haw!
