Beautiful, cool and eye-grabbing. I think this costume embodies her characteristic well. I fully agree that all fans voted for this costume. I wanna fight with Kasumi in this costume!

WG: This one fits the character so well. There’s no doubt in my mind this one will be showing up in-game. Not only was it voted into the top 3, but its also the personal favorite of the game’s producer. This was the only costume to make both lists.~~~

First, I thought that what are you doing with our Ayane with a tail like a monkey, but I thought I started being deluded and honestly I thought she was cute in this costume. This is something that Team NINJA can’t create it by our own.

I want to respond your love to Christie with my love to her. If I promise to meet with her at a coffee shop, this is the costume she will put on. Snake and Apple belt design is so adorable! Also, I think normally lady fighter wear half glove to fight, but she is a master of sneak fist, so she has to protect her fingertips.

WG: Saito’s comment is a little… odd, lol. I’m actually acquainted with the artist of this one over on FreeStepDodge, a DOA fansite. If not for me, his entry may have been unfairly left out of the contest. Voting had started, yet Team Ninja hadn’t uploaded his entry yet. He tried to contact them but they hadn’t responded. I offered to tweet them a reminder, and fortunately they quickly responded to my tweet with an apology and got his design up.~~~

WG: I like this one. It’s simple, sexy, and creative and it fits the character thematically. I usually over-think designs and throw in too much detail, but this shows that sometimes less is more, or in this case better, design-wise at least.~~~
Rachel by Xavi Shiranui – Selected by the Community Manager
It was unfortunate that this design was attacked by unknown hackers in Facebook and I have to set this aside from the competition. But I like her Damon Hunter-ish a tight black costume with a cyborg type of left arm. Also, I’m a big fan of Ninja Gaiden and would like to bring this costume to Ninja Gaiden Series someday. WG: As was mentioned in the blurb, this fantastic design was hit by spammers. Over the course of a few days, it shot up from just a few hundred votes to over 20,000 and unfortunately had to be disqualified. It very likely would’ve made the top 10 if this hadn’t happened. 2 months overdue, here are the results of the Halloween costume design contest! blush1 All female this time, and most are quite heavy on the fanservice. These are the kind of results most people were expecting for the first contest.
I personally feel like most of these are pretty meh. You can tell a lot more Japanese fans voted this time around. In fact, I believe every single entry in the top 10 was designed by a Japanese fan, except for #5, which was from a guy in China.

My brother voted for #5. Yeah, the butt-window is stupid, but the other 95% of the costume is still fantastic.

Ok, now on to the special awards from Team Ninja themselves! I really like these ones. They actually picked mostly male costumes, and a female one that isn’t showing tons of skin. Good for them lol.
FYI all of the comments were run through Google Translate, so they may not make coherent sense. There was one instance each in both the Art Director and Designer awards where I tweaked a name that didn’t make it through the translation unscathed, but otherwise these are posted as-is from Google. Feel free to re-translate them if you want, but awkwardly-worded or not, I still think they get their point across.

Over the past few months several contest costumes (mostly from the 1st contest) have been confirmed for inclusion in the upcoming DOA5: Last Round. They also released a Halloween set for DOA5U back in October that included many outfits from the 2nd contest (the Halloween-specific one), but I’ll get to that some other time. Anyways, figured I’d share a few, for those curious. Some you may recognize as “winners” that I posted here, others weren’t, which is nice that even ones that didn’t “win” are still getting included in the game. I’ll post more later.
There aren’t great screenshots of all the ones we know of thus far, but these first 4 are a side-by-side comparison with the original fan design, courtesy of Tyaren at FreeStepDodge (a DOA fansite). I’ve gotta say, they all look fantastic in-game. Of note, a few have had minor details changed or omitted in the transition from art to game, while others are basically identical.

While I like her overall, my feelings are a bit mixed. Design-wise she looks good, but at the same time feels kinda generic, for lack of a better word. I’ve seen this bubbly schoolgirl look and character archetype many times before, so she doesn’t really stand out much to me. Her gameplay also leaves a bit to be desired. She’s basically a copycat character, with her moveset consisting of an amalgamation of moves from various other characters, with a few original moves thrown in. That would be fine if the previously announced character, Raidou, didn’t do the exact same thing. Fortunately they selected different stolen moves for each, so at least they’ll both play very differently, but she also appears to be copying stances as well, rather than just individual moves, something Raidou doesn’t do. This opens up tons of gameplay possibilities and is probably one of the most interesting things about her. I can see her being a favorite among high-level players, who will find ways to wreck people like nobody’s business with her diverse move selection.
I hope that critique didn’t sound too negative. I do like her, I just think they could’ve done a bit more to make her more interesting. If nothing else, she looks to be tons of fun to play, and in the end that’s all that really matters to me. Just one month to go before release…

With another Halloween contest on the horizon, I figured I’d share my WIP costume designs. Fisherman outfit for
Bass. *This one has already been tweaked since I took the picture. I’m ditching the lure on the hat and instead including a fishing pole on his back, with the lure dangling on the end.

As of Sunday night, the submission period for the 2015 Halloween contest has ended. In total they received a whopping ~1500 designs, thanks in large part to the lack of the “one entry per person” rule the previous two contests had. By comparison, the first and second contests only received about 400 and 300 entries each, respectively. Given the sheer amount of entries they’ve received they may not even be able to publicly showcase them all. Hopefully many DLC packs come from this, as they certainly have enough costume ideas to last them years. I still don’t know if there’s actually going to be any fan-voting like before, but it’s looking less and less likely. Based on some comments from Team Ninja, it seems they may just be picking costumes themselves and leaving it at that. Things previously got a bit heated in the Facebook and Twitter comments with some people whining about winning designs, throwing around accusations of cheating and rigged votes, and trashing the art of the less artistically-talented submitters. If they don’t do another fan-vote, I really can’t blame them. At least this way the only rude comments people can make are that the folks at TN have poor taste…
Regardless, thanks to everyone here who would have supported our designs had there been a vote.
