700 years ago on the planet Jurai, a coup d’état broke out between two Royal houses for control of the planet, cilmaxing into a sword duel between Yosho & Kagato – the princes of each house. The two battled until one was defeated and forced into exile, ending the coup and restoring order to the planet. However, the other prince vanished before taking the throne, leaving the high consul of elders in charge. Fast forward to the present, a mysterious man claiming to be Yosho takes over the throne as emperor after proving his identity by accessing Jurai’s power (a force created by jurai trees that gives its bearers who are of royal blood super-human strength and abilities).

Three months later, space pirate Ryoko and her ship, Ryo-Ohki, are hired by an unidentified employer to hack into the main computer of the Jurai-branch at the Galaxy Police Headquarters to retrieve a secret hidden file. After being spotted escaping HQ, Emperor “Yosho” contacts corrupt GXP Marshal Wanhan to oversee that she is followed and her employer identified before taking action to kill them off, including those hired to follow, leaving no witnesses. Seeing them as a burden to the force, the Marshal hires First-Class Detectives Kiyone & Mihoshi to follow Ryoko, with the promise of getting them off traffic duty and promoting them to full detective status. The two officers follow Ryoko to a meeting point in the Sol system, near Saturn. Upon arriving at the location, Ryoko is shock to discover her employer is none other than her childhood rival, Juraian Princess Ayeka, her younger sister Sasami, and their log-like robot guards Asaka and Kamedaki, who hired her feeling she was the best one for the job, dispite their past rivary. Before Ryoko can ask what is in the file, their ships are detained by detectives Kiyone and Mihoshi’s ship. When they contact the Marshal on the identity of Ayeka as Ryoko’s employer, Wanhan orders Juraian knights/GXP special ops Generals Tetta and Tessei (who had followed Kiyone and Mihoshi in secret) to take them all out, starting a 3-to-1 battle between their ships – Ryo-ohki, Ryo-Oh, & the Yagami – and the knight’s much stronger ship, the Soyja, as they try to escape. The resulting battle and chase leads all the way to Earth.

Meanwhile on Earth, high-school junior Tenchi Masaki has just started summer vacation, and is walking home through the woods to his house on the lake across from his grandfather’s shrine when he spots the three ships crash land nearby after losing the battle with the Soyja, leaving them for dead. The resulting impact from the ships’ crash causes a quake within the cave which the Masaki shrine was built to protect, causing a crystal-like meteor inside to shatter open, revealing an cyro-sleep pod. The pod is forced to open and revive it’s occupant, revealed to be ex-Galactic Academy professor Washu Habuki, who was sentenced and exiled after unknowingly supplying weapons to the faction that started the coup on Jurai centuries earlier. She is found and nursed back to health by the grandfather, Katsuhito Masaki, while Tenchi and his father, Nobuyuki, find and nurse back to health the other girls, who all survived the crash. During their month-long recovery, the six girls form a bond between themselves and the Masakis, becoming a family. Ryoko also manages to find a revived Ryo-ohki, which has reverted back to her cabbit-form after the crash. Due to his caring nature, Ryoko and Ayeka start to develop feelings toward Tenchi, between also re-ignites their rivalry. Sasami & Ryo-ohki also start a friendship with one of Tenchi’s schoolmates and neighbor, Sakuya Kumashiro.

When rumors of the girls’ survival reaches Jurai, the Emperor and Wanhan hire bounty hunter Nagi and her cabbit/ship, Ken-ohki, to hunt them down. Tetta & Tessei are sent as well, to make up for their past failure to kill them off and to make sure the stolen file is destroyed. When they reach Earth and find the girls hiding at the Masaki Shrine, a battle breaks out between the bountry hunters and Ryoko, Ayeka, Tenchi, and Katsuhito, who the later two start to show signs of Jurai’s power as they fight. The battle nearly results in the lose of the file, until it is revealed that Washu had a made back-up copy earlier during their recovery. After Nagi and the Knights are fought off planet, Tenchi & the girls decrypt the file, which is revealed to a be a codex archiving the DNA profiles of all Jurai royal citizens and updating their status and location in real time. When searching the codex, they are shock to discover that not only is the Emperor, in fact, the exiled prince Kagato, but that Tenchi’s grandfather is actually the real prince Yosho, who explains that he left Jurai after the coup, feeling that the whole ordeal had ruined him and made him unworthy for the throne. He left for Earth, feeling he could start a new live there. Another shock comes when the codex also reveals that Sakuya is the long-lost Jurai Priestess Yugi, who also left Jurai after discovering her unintended actions caused the coup. She fled to Earth, and took on a human identity, changing it every few decades to avoid suspicions about her slow aging.

Yosho then decides it is time to go back to Jurai and face Kagato and take back the throne. Together, the gang travels there using Ryo-ohki in her spaceship-form. When they reach the border to Jurai space, they sneak their way in, by hiding in a passing rogue debris belt, avoiding GXP and Jurai authorities patrolling the area. Before they reach Jurai, Yosho reveals a hidden panel on both of the princesses’ guardians, revealing Asaka and Kamidake to be sentient cyro life-support systems for two Juraian Knights loyal to Yosho – the original Asaka & Kamidake. Together, they sneak in and storm the imperial palace, taking out all opposition in their way, until only Nagi, corrupt GXP operative Mutsuki, and Tetta & Tessei remain. The battle then breaks into groups, with Ryoko fighting Nagi in space with their ships Ryo-Ohki & Ken-Ohki, Kiyone and Mihoshi battling Mitsuki, and Knights Asaka & Kamidake battling Tetta & Tessei.

When Ryoko & Ryo-ohki are nearly killed, Washu reveals to Ryoko that she is her daughter: Years before the coup, Washu had used her DNA to create a child of her own, as she was unable to bear children, but her baby was stolen after being born and lock away in cyro by GXP, as breeding by cloning was against the law at the time. The baby was later taken out of cyro, and raised by a family of space pirates. Washu found out she was her daughter when she hacked the GXP network when they were heading for Jurai. With confidence from her “mother,” Ryoko is able to beat Nagi in battle, before losing consciousness. Kiyone, Mihoshi, Asaka, & Kamidake also manage to win their own battles again Mitsuki and the dark Knights.

Meanwhile, Yosho, Ayeka, and Tenchi confront Kagato, who reveals that he staged the codex to be stolen by the princesses to not only have them killed off, but to also destroy the evidence of his true heritage in the codex file. Yosho and Kagato begin their final battle, but due to the emperor’s youth, Yosho is quickly and easily defeated, who then tells Tenchi he’s the only one who can defeat him, as he is an heir to the royal bloodline, and thus, has full access to Jurai’s power. The final battle continues with Tenchi battling Kagato in a sword duel that nearly destroyes half the palace. When it seems as Kagato has the upper hand, he is caught in a surprise attack from behind by Ayeka, giving Tenchi the time needed to summon his full Jurai power and finally kill Kagato, and passing the throne to the real Yosho.

As the gang recover from their injuries in battle, Yosho gives the throne to Tenchi, who he feels is the true heir to Jurai. However, Tenchi declines, stating that he rather return home to his normal life along with his grandfather. He then in turn gives the throne to Ayeka, making her Empress, with Yugi returning to Jurai as Priestess. GXP Marshal Wanhan and the corrupt GXP officers loyal to him are arrested and taken into custody, while Kiyone and Mihoshi are promoted to full detectives and made Corporals. Washu is also acquitted of all charges from the past coup and rejoins the Galactic Academy. Ryoko is also acquitted of pass crimes, allowing her to live her life with a clean slate.

When the time comes to return to Earth, Ryoko offers the Masakis a ride home, with Kiyone and Mihoshi taging along as escort. As they start their journey home, Tenchi learns that Ayeka, Sasami, their guardians, and Washu have also joined Kiyone & Mihoshi on board, revealing that Ayeka has decided to leave the knights Asaka & Kamidake in charge in her absence, and that all of them wish to join them on Earth. Feeling that things should be interesting, Yosho welcomes them all into the Masaki family as they speed back to Earth, with Ryoko speeding Ryo-ohki ahead, trying to leave Ayeka in her dust to have Tenchi all to herself, as Ayeka orders the Yagami speeds to catch them, thus staring they rivalry yet again, beginning their battle to win Tenchi’s heart.

In a mid-credits scene, Tenchi and Girls find that Yugi has also returned to Earth, to continue her life as Sakuya.

In a post-credits scene, a year has pasted and Tenchi and Sakuya have graduated from High School and go out to celebrate with Katsuhito. Nobuyuki, and the girls, not knowing they are all being watched from a far by a hooded figure with a Japanese “Ku” logo on the robe, reveal to be an android who contacts her master on the radio that she’s found the target, hinting that she is Zero, and that her master is Dr. Clay, opening the door for a possible sequel.
