I did Prison School a few days ago, so I’m going to continue sharing my favorite OPs/EDs of the summer season.

Next up, Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace. Both songs are appropriately moody and accompanied by equally bizarre imagery. I love the ED in particular.

    OP

“Speed to Masatsu” (or “Speed and Friction”) by amazarashi

    ED

    “Mikazuki” by Sayuri

I wonder if being anime fans makes us more open to liberal ideas such as marriage equality since

we’re more exposed to them in what we choose to watch.

I think that would depend on the person, what kind of shows they watch, and whether or not they think of anime as something more than just pure entertainment for them. If so, then the ideas presented in such shows might actually mean something to them. Most people probably don’t put that much thought into it though.

The irony here is that Japan itself is actually far less open-minded to anything that doesn’t conform to the norm. It’s just their entertainment industry that has few qualms with targeting specific demographics with any and every kind of show/movie/comic/porn/etc you could possibly imagine as long as they think they can make money off of it, whereas despite most Western countries becoming more open-minded as of late, their entertainment industries (of the US in particular) are far too concerned with being politically correct to branch out much.

OK, Ukinojo (or anyone else that wants to watch Blazer/Yamato) here’s a complete list of the whole franchise in release order. Chuck made a similar list awhile back, but it’s been consumed by the bowels of this thread, so I figured it was worth making another.

    First, some notes:

Only the three original television seasons and the live-action movie have dubs.

Anything that doesn’t say “(Season #)” after it is a movie or OVA.

    – Star Blazers: The Quest for Iscandar/Space Battleship Yamato (Season 1)

    – Space Battleship Yamato: The Movie

    * Compilation of first season. Adds new footage.

    – Farewell, Space Battleship Yamato

    – Star Blazers: The Comet Empire/Space Battleship Yamato II (Season 2)

    – Yamato: The New Voyage

    – Be Forever Yamato

    – Star Blazer: The Bolar Wars/Space Battleship Yamato III (Season 3)

    – Final Yamato

    – Yamato 2520

    * OVA. Left unfinished at 3 eps. Distant sequel.

    – Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection

    * Has both a theatrical and director’s cut versions, the latter of which is, oddly, the shorter of the two. Each features a different ending.

A follow-up movie to Resurrection was planned, bit it’s been 6 years and we’ve not heard a peep about it.

If anyone’s curious, chronological order for the original timeline is almost exactly the same except that 2520 and Resurrection are swapped.

    From there you have:

    – Space Battleship Yamato (live-action movie)

And lastly, the modern remake and it’s sequel film:

    – Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (Season 1?)

    – Space Battleship Yamato 2199: A Voyage to Remember (aka Tsuioku No Koukai)

    * Compilation of 2199. No new footage.

    – Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark (aka Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune)

As you can see from some of the previous posts in this thread, there are rumors of a possible sequel to 2199 coming next year that would pick up after the Odyssey film and adapt the story of the original 2nd season, The Comet Empire.

I love the opening for Prison School. It’s kinda silly, but really catchy. The VA’s for the 5 male leads actually formed a band (Kangoku Danshi) and performed this and the ending theme themselves.

“Ai no Prison” (or “Prison of Love”)

The ending is also good. Might as well post it too…

Welcome new guy! It’s pretty cool that you discovered us through our various community projects.

I used to wonder if anyone besides the regulars here watched/read/listened to any of our stuff (don’t tell anyone I said that…). Glad to see others are finding them!

So what we have is a possibility based on some fan’s report on Twitter that a new series might be in play. That’s pretty iffy.

Yeah, it’s very iffy at this point, but it’ll be very easy to verify. It’s someone claiming to have gotten hold of a magazine early and relaying what they found inside, which isn’t exactly an uncommon occurrence. We’ll know for sure in a few days once the magazine officially drops and other people get their hands on it.

And I think Chuck said he wasn’t going to be able to be on a whole lot what with the whole law

business taking up a lot of his time now.

I know. I was mostly just trying to be funny since I feel like I haven’t seen him around for ages. Although it kinda does feel like a lot of the old-timers are dropping like flies after venting their frustrations with OVA 4 and the future direction of the Tenchi franchise.

    WHEREFORE ART THOU, CHUCK? rageblow1

Pre-production on a follow-up season to Yamato 2199 covering the story of Farewell and The Comet Empire *might* be in pre-production and *might* land in 2016!

Japanese fan buzz purportedly from an early look at issue 11 of Ship’s Log, the Yamato Premium Fan Club magazine has it that Exec Producer Souji Nishizaki reveals that pre-production is underway on a follow-up to 2013’s Space Battleship Yamato 2199 classic sci-fi remake, with studio Xebec currently doing hiring and research.

Reportedly, the new series will run another 26 episodes, doing the earlier work’s format of theatrical screenings then broadcast starting later in 2016. The story will be inspired by 1978’s Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato feature and Space Battleship Yamato II TV series. Original content is being planned for after this season.

Before we get too carried away with ourselves, the Star Blazers.com Facebook page makes sure to add…

I repeat, this is a fan relaying news on Twitter, and that’s all the information that was given. When a copy of Ship’s Log #11 arrives here at the nerve center in a week or two, I’ll do an actual translation of the interview. For now, if this is true, it’s the first reliable news from the inside. Fingers crossed that it holds up!
