As far as Ayeka and Ryoko and as far as loving the idea of the relationship or just them as characters I personally love them both as characters so much. They both have unquiely different backgrounds and way of life and yet in a couple of aspects they are the same and tne character development of them both is simply fantastic and they both shine for that. No wonder Tenchi cant choose. I wouldnt be able to either because Ryoko and Ayeka arent the only girls who are fantastic. ; )

Hypothetical death related: How would the relationships of Ayeka or Ryoko with Tenchi work if one of them died? Would the survivor finally have the place by Tenchi? Would they come apart?

The question is : Are we in love of her character, or are we in love of the relationship they’re having ? (Ryoko and Tenchi)

I wondered if the characters were written differently, would we love them differently than before?

But I don’t really count the third OVA, with it’s flaws. Now that I think about this more, going along with rebooting the franchise, why don’t we just throw every character from every continuity into a reboot? Now you’ll say “But how would that work? Wouldn’t there be too many characters?”Only if the only thing that makes those characters interesting is Tenchi himself, I would be ok with Kiyone, Noike, and Mihoshi being a team, if they were GP officers first and didn’t stay at the Masaki house (much like in Universe). And really with a fresh restart, and all these new characters, you could easily revisit many scenarios throughout each continuity in the form a couple episodes or longer 4 or 5 episode arcs (like introducing Mayuka into the household, Tenchi going to Tokyo, Time and Space Adventures, etc)Certain characters would have to be merged with other characters and reworked a little, but I’d love to see that, because it would be the same characters we know, but not quite the same way we saw them before.

A scenario for a new continuity, Washu’s machine somehow bridges alternate versions of themselves and must work together to fix the problems in their universe before they collapse. That would allow new characters and a dust off of old story arcs and refreshed.
