It’s cosplay time! One of the things that makes Otakon such a great con is the sheer number of cosplayers. Most of them are from the mega popular and more recent shows, even so there is always a good chance of seeing an obscure show being represented. Because of this, and the fact that it was very difficult to flag down cosplayers for photo ops, I only snapped pics of the ones I thought were either simply too well done to pass up on, or were truly unique and from shows near and dear to my heart. So without further ado I present chucklocker’s cosplay pics from Otakon 2013! http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130809_160643_zpsb2c4bed3.jpg " /> How could I not start this list with Tenchi? This guy’s lighthawk armor was amazing, especially the light-up lighthawk wing . I gave up my spot in the massively long AMV Contest line to chase this guy down for a photo op lol.

There was a Sailor Saturn with the bottom group, making it a complete set, but she seemed photo shy.

I especially love how this one’s mug says “best dad” lol!

Otakon 2013 was a great experience all around! I loved hanging out with my fellow Tenchi fans, meeting tons of fellow anime lovers and industry pros, and once again dropping mad cash in the dealers room (although for the first time I managed to leave with SOME money left in my pocket, lol)! I couldn’t have asked for a better send off before I launch myself into three years of intense law school work. There’s so much that we did and saw at Otakon for me to even begin to describe it all tonight, so I will simply begin my roundup with a showing of all the cool swag I picked up this time around! http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_221336_zpsa3b694a4.jpg" /> First up is the signature of WoG’s very own Jad Saxton, who voiced Lashara! She was very nice, and I gave her a forum card and invited her to do an interview with us whenever she wants, so we’ll see what comes of that
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_221107_zps7e65da26.jpg" /> Next up is this lovely Rei figure, which now joins the Asuka and Desslock figures I picked up at Ohayocon.

http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_215937_zps0445e5f5.jpg" /> This Yamato model kit is a vintage Japanese product from the earliest days of the franchise and a true “diamond in the rough” find!
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_220103_zps9c642d3b.jpg" /> http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_220152_zps6e0dd2db.jpg" /> http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_220205_zps142d4e05.jpg" /> I really hit paydirt with this Yamato book. It’s a complete scene for scene breakdown of the second (and best) Yamato movie, complete with staff essays (in Japanese
) and mechanical designs for all vehicles, weapons, and characters in the movie! http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_221455_zpsdaf23f6e.jpg" /> Because deep down I’m a glutton for punishment I bought the fantastic(ly depressing) Ghibli film “Grave of the Fireflies,” continuing my streak of purchasing one Ghibli film per con I attend.
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_215716_zps76f99c51.jpg" /> I got this poster free from the FUNi booth and then had it signed by Micah Solusod, Mike McFarland, and Jad Saxton, all of whom worked on the dub of “Wolf Children.”
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_232042_zpsa129cf48.jpg" /> Speaking of signing, Crispin Freeman’s autograph now joins that of Richard Epcar on the cover of my GiTS:SAC set. It was a nightmare getting into that signing though…
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff178/chucklocker/Otakon%202013/20130811_215528_zps6cecf48b.jpg" /> Finally, my personal favorite buy of Otakon 2013 is this beautiful Asuka wall scroll. This was the first wall scroll I’ve ever encountered that I felt compelled to buy at first glimpse. I generally find anime wall scrolls to be cheesy at best and downright pornographic at worst, but this one actually fits wonderfully along side some of the classical art prints hanging on my walls. I guess you could call it the “redheaded stepchild” of wall scrolls

Schedule is out! (Thanks Dagon for the image link) http://i.imgur.com/eZf5X3r.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/eZf5X3r.png” class=”bbcode_url”> Looks like some good stuff at times and places all over the map! I suggest those of us going should start laying out our own plans so we can figure out the best way to see everything we want to. To everyone who isn’t going, feel free to make suggestions as to what panels/events you think look cool!

I’ll take up that call! Anyway, my experience with the LE sets is that they are pretty nice. The box is sturdy, the artwork on it is nice. You get both dvd and bluray copies of the material, and trust me it looks like a totally different show in bluray
The art book that comes with is filled with nice pictures, but none that even moderate Tenchi fans haven’t seen before. All in all, if you can get it for cheaper than FUNi and stores like FYE and suncoast are scalping them, I highly recommend getting them. - July 31, 2013 at 11:39 PM

?FirstOr Second:
[BBvideo 425,350]
[/BBvideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbWFpzi8C94 First, any day of the week. Don’t get me wrong, the second is also an excellent opening, one of the best in recent years, but the first is truly great. I honestly have a hard time thinking of an opening that is more charismatic, memorable, and just straight up addicting as that first one is. I think it will be remembered in one breath with the original Yamato opening and Cruel Angel’s Thesis (Neon Genisis Evangelion). Of course, I’m still just an anime newb so I could be over enthused, but I’ve got a good feeling about this show, and its opening’s, place in anime history.

Man…. there is so much awesome in this I don’t know where to begin! I’ll start with my beloved EVA. I absolutely LOVE EVA 2.22! It perfectly achieves excellence as both a movie, and as an EVA outing (psychology, intrigue, and a good old fashioned dose of mindfuck!). I think it will fit very well on toonami, as did the airing of EVA 1.11. I eagerly await its airingI also really found the Clone Wars series to be a worthwhile outing in the otherwise unglamorous prequel universe. It was suspenseful, funny, and intriguing. In short, everything we’ve come to expect from quality Star Wars. I also think this show will fit very well with the Toonami mold. It has an almost “anime-esque” plot and character development that lends itself to being shown along side anime. I hope it gains a wider following at this later time. Good times indeed for toonami. I continue to be impressed with the shows they are picking up. Now if only I could actually stay up late to watch them all…

Indeed! I’m bringing my Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex set to be signed by Crispin Freeman (Togusa), and Yoko Kanno on the extremely off chance she is signing. I’m also bringing my LE Geminar set to be signed by Jad (I know there’s a crazy punctuation mark in there) Saxton, the voice of Lashara. Who knows, maybe I can strike up a Tenchi conversation with her and get her to appear on the next interview cast! Other than those things, I’m pretty free for the rest of the con. I’m going to be keeping my ear to the ground for any info on Yamato/Star Blazers 2199 (Man I hope they screen the English dubbed ep there!). Of course I will also be taking group photos with the rest of our mighty Dual cosplay ensemble!
