So, while I was at Chibi-pa with the boys, I suddenly saw a vendor booth that gave me pause. He had not only vintage, battle-worn G1 Transformers, but also an Ayeka figurine! wth2 To say that I coveted this booth would be an understatement. blush1 Sadly, the vendor only took cash, of which I had none at the time. Though I debated on finding an ATM and jumping through the hoops of telling the bank that I had not stolen my own debit card, Dagon became my hero. iloveit1 Yes, Ayeka now resides with my other figures. fyeah1

However, when I went home for Thanksgiving, I think Ryoko was jealous of the newcomer.

Once this little photo shoot was over, the subjects started rummaging through the prop room, and here’s what resulted. WANT1

Now in ridiculous overtime, the battle competition continues between the Student Council and Science Club, while poor Tenchi just wants to go home. tenchiahhhhhh They have gone from athletic competition of the steeplechase and the cavalry battle to seemingly random other things: games of chess, eating contests, even whack-a-mole (ORAORAORAORA jotaro1 ).

But, Yuki refuses to accept defeat, and the games continue. I do appreciate her tenacity. Ganbatte, Yuki! fyeah1

However, notice that Rui referenced the excavation from the first week. They wanted the funds to finish uncovering their treasure. Indeed, what is that treasure? Do tell. Yuki and Beni do seem rather protective of it. gendo1

Moreover, Momo mumbles in her sleep something about her and Beni “returning together”. Return where, Momo? Are you saying you and Beni have a history? Do tell. butts1

Be on notice. The threads are starting to align. Soon. Just like Ukan said, all will be revealed soon. gendo1

Then, there’s Ryoko. Tenchi, you made a mistake. It wasn’t directly a fault of your own. You should know better. tenchiahhhhhh However, Sasami’s words creep me out almost as much. Are you telling me that the dorms are a roach motel? wth2 Once you check in, you never check out? sadface1 Stay tuned! Tenchismile

Today’s episode continues the competition between the different clubs in… booty wrestling… wth2 Momo, what the f-?!

I did enjoy watching Tenchi spend some time with Ryoko, Ayeka, and Sasami outside of their flat. The deliciousness of Ryoko and Ayeka’s comments of the competition was palpable. I’ve missed their banter. mmhmm1

Now, here’s a point of fact. Ryoko also recalled her recent exchange with Beni, much like Washu’s apparent interest in Beni as well. Moreover, the point of this episode is Momo offering an olive branch, in the form of her butt, to Beni. I am noting a lot of emphasis on Beni, and, considering Beni’s visions/memories and the feudal era events, I think that might be a major plot point in the near future. gendo1

Now, it seems the competition is going into overtime. What will be our final round? butts1 Tune in tomorrow! Tenchismile

    Plot? PLOT?! Where are you?

While I too am eager for the overarching plotline to take precedence, I do not believe the wait will be long. Allow me to make a comparison to Universe. The overarching plot regarding the coup d’etat on Jurai did not start until Kagato took the throne under the guise of Yosho in episode 14, the episode after the halfway point. Moreover, said plot did not become heavily dramatic until episode 22, four episodes from the end. A good chuck of the series’s content was fun adventures that gave us more depth to each character.

Please note that in Ai Tenchi episode 26 is the episode after the halfway mark, where Washu is shown lurking in her laboratory with a particular interest in Beni. I fully expect that once this sports competition ends, the overarching plotline will come to the forefront. I also expect that in the last week of November, said plot will become much more dramatic.

Keep in mind: we have only seen 22 episodes of new content and 5 episodes of recap, which yield a total of ~66 minutes of new content. In that time, we have been introduced to characters, new and old, and even had them grow, much like Universe did. Please be patient. The overarching plot will come soon enough, and if Negishi’s tweets are to be believed, FEELs will be had.

The sports competition continues today with a team event, a cavalry battle. fyeah1 Naturally, the Student Council and Science Club are the main entities in this confrontation, but I do feel a little sorry for the nameless cannon fodder getting trounced by Hachiko and Beni. blush1 Also, judging by the score, there have been other events offscreen, since the Council at 50 points last Thursday. gendo1

I did like that Yuki has gotten a lot more of the spotlight in the last two episodes. While Hachiko’s character development in episode 24 overshadowed it, Yuki got a nice range of emotions as well. This episode continues that, particularly as she shows concern for her robot Goriki, who was notably patched up offscreen. Unlike the Council members, Yuki and Rui really have not had an episode of their own yet, so it is good to see them getting some attention. mmhmm1

By the way, I love Goriki’s sign “Legal Victory”. It reminds me of the catch phrase in my tabletop RPG group of “Lawyered!” when someone argued using the law and the letter of the rules. Nice. badass1

Also, I am waiting for Tori’s character episode. She has been the quiet one of the Council, but she has shown some skills getting control of Goriki once already. I half-expected her to do it again today. Tenchismile

But, the icing on the cake was the creepy spider! woooo1 Poor Rui got to ruin some asses today. There’s your secret weapon. badass1

Washu, I see you peeking. What’re you scheming? Tell me your secrets. butts1

I noticed Momo did mention the “pi po pa”. ;)

That is, she is referencing the TV series version of the Pretty Sammy opening, Magical Project S. Nice catch, Nobuyuki. Tenchismile

Momo brings us to a close this week with another recap episode. She does tend to get distracted with other random thoughts, doesn’t she? blush1 I think she spends more time talking about chocolate and how she feels about Tenchi than she does recapping the plot. Kiyofacepalm1

Today’s competition starts off with a foot race through some strange obstacle course, and a lot of outside interference. butts1 Despite Tenchi’s plea for fair play, Yuki summons Goriki to take out her competition, including Hachiko.

This episode got to focus heavily on Hachiko and Yuki, showing again Hachiko’s “little girl mode” as well as Yuki’s scheming determination. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the Science Club is not simply the whipping boy of the Student Council. When Goriki took Hachiko’s bokuto, Yuki pretty much had a clear shot at victory if she had rushed to the finish. She seems a more viable threat for a change. badass1

However, Hachiko had some character growth today. Momo’s cheers broke through some of her “little girl mode” and got her running again, just long enough for Tori to gain control of Goriki. woooo1 Hachiko even had “success sparkles”. iloveit1 Naturally, Goriki gets taken out again, but I bet he will return soon enough. blush1

I can relate to Tenchi’s concerns, and I note again that there are no other faculty or administrators here besides Ukan and her “toy”. Ukan does seem to be running the whole show, and enjoying what she sees. Might there be something about her we don’t quite know yet? qt1

    What contest lies next? gendo1

A lull before the storm, this episode gives a little breath between the zany craziness of last week, and the upcoming insanity for this next competition. Evidently, this competition will determine the club that will lead the student body for the academic year, so both the Council and the Club are preparing for battle. gendo1

While not as action-packed as the previous several episodes, this episode had a more gradual rising tension: watching the Council and the Club ready themselves, Ukan’s allusion to larger schemes, the group chanting for the gathered students. Something big is about to go down. badass1

This episode also had a couple nice visual allusions as well.

Also, I believe we had caught a reference to the red oni and blue oni in the past, and now we’ve visibly seen the two in front of the school.

Indeed, there were two statues standing with the banner at the school’s entrance, both holding a club like Beni’s. mmhmm1 Moreover, during Ukan’s little speech to Tenchi, she references a legend that is the basis for the competition. The image shows an ogre terrorizing people, and then decapitated by a young man accompanied by a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant. I wonder what she could be referencing. butts1 What might we encounter in the next few days? kiyonesmile1

Too bad Tenchi’s getting dragged along as a prize. tenchiahhhhhh However, I have a theory. I bet, despite the legend of Momotaro, the Student Council loses. Thus, Tenchi would be forced to work for the Science Club for a day, giving those characters more screentime and depth. We’ll have to see how it goes. Tenchismile
