I just got it (Via Kindle), so who’s got it, and who doesn’t?

I haven’t bought it myself. Would you recommend this release? What do you most like about it so far? (Btw, don’t worry about spoilers for me, I’ve known the gist of what’s in these LN’s for a long time, but if including anything content-wise, please use spoiler tags for others.)

What i’ve read thus far is interesting. But ive had to use my pc to view it, since my kindle app on my phone keeps crashing, books, comics, manga, all of them the app crashes. I need a new phone lol

For those who may have missed out on Rightstuf’s pre-order offer (as recounted here), a friendly reminder that Ai Tenchi Muyo! dubbed (with Matt Miller as Tenchi and Petrea Burchard returning as Ryoko) is NOW AVAILABLE for purchase on Rightstuf and Amazon!!

You may also be aware, but just in case you haven’t heard and you’re still on the fence about throwing down your money on this set, check out our podcast episode where some of us give our thoughts about the dub! (SPOILER: we liked it!)

We’ve said it before, but let me say it again succinctly: If you like classic Tenchi, Hiroshi Negishi’s directing, and/or Petrea’s role as Ryoko, you’ll love this release. Check it out when you get the chance for (what may very likely be) one last hurrah in the vein of Tenchi Muyo! as we of the Toonami generation know it.

I wish i could right now, but i can’t, funds just aren’t there to allow for it. But one day soon…until then, here’s to hoping the compiled episodes (dubbed) you did stay up (they were rips right?)

Also i kinda hope they can get them back for OVA 4 as well, and call it an “End of an Era”, though we’ve seen how THOSE go with the Star Wars Unaltered OT-1st Special Editions, and the End of An Era match between *Teddy Long voice* Da Undatakaaaa *coughs* Triple H and Michaels (Spec. Ref.) went. (Trips and Taker have another match this summer in Australia)

Maybe that was when the switch from Pioneer to Geneon happened and they decided not to do them, or Toonami didn’t feel like it at that point, i think by the time Tokyo came to Toonami, Naruto was starting to dominate everything right? I did notice however, on the dvd’s and HD versions i have, Funi seemed to only include the Japanese intro/outro vids and break cuts. Wish we could get BOTH versions in HD. (Maybe a re-voice over for OVA 3 for Ryoko)

All three series, the OVA, Universe, and Tokyo ran on Toonami in the same year, Tokyo started airing on Toonami August 25, 2000, Naruto wasn’t on Toonami for another couple of years, so that had nothing to do with it.

Pioneer transitioning into Geneon didn’t start until 2003, well after that time.

Will we ever know exactly why they didn’t release Toonami Tokyo on VHS? Probably not, however, it more than likely was due to sales.

Another thing factoring in to sales was the fact that Pioneer had dub AND sub, uncut and uncensored VHS versions of Tokyo already in circulation, on top of the fact they were releasing DVD more regularly.

As for Funi not having English versions? It’s because they are cheapskates, they didn’t even get the dub version of episode 13.5. The Japanese Blu-ray release had dub of everything, and also included the dub for The Mihoshi Special, were it not for its price point, the Japanese release is easily the superior of the 2 releases.

Damn, i thought Tokyo was at a later date. I know that the VHS market was so confusing, dubbed vs. subbed, two episodes per tape, $25-30 dollars (U.S.) per tape?! -_-

Obviously Funi are cheapskates, as are all companies. Especially now that….SONY… owns them. *shakes*

So then the DVD releases are japanese just with english voice over?

No, ALL of the DVD releases are English Dub, Japanese with English Subtitles.

What I was saying was, when Tenchi came out on Toonami, Pioneer made a special print run of the VHS that was the Toonami version with the Toonami edit, but they only did this for OVA 1&2 and Universe, they never got to Tokyo, so the only way to find or watch the Toonami version of Tokyo is hope that someone recorded it, which is pretty slim to none.

So I was hoping if someone had ANY old tapes of Tenchi that they would have saved it for posterity.

Okay, i also see they just did that run as “TENCHI MUYO”, only way to tell if theyre OVA 1&2 or Universe is looking at episode names, and looking for Toonami producers on the back, and soft clamshell it looks like from ebay pics. Maybe that was when the switch from Pioneer to Geneon happened and they decided not to do them, or Toonami didn’t feel like it at that point, i think by the time Tokyo came to Toonami, Naruto was starting to dominate everything right? I started this here because as you may or may not know, Pioneer released the Toonami broadcast versions of the first 13 episodes of the OVA (Tenchi Muyo! which we have!) and all of Universe on VHS. However, they DID NOT release the Toonami version of Tenchi in Tokyo on VHS, It only exists on VHS from those who may have recorded it way back in the day.

So basically, I’m looking for these tapes to digitize them and put them up for everyone to watch

If you have any VHS tapes that have even one episode of Tenchi In Tokyo from Toonami, or know anyone who might, let me know, send me a PM and we can work it out from there, Thanks!

So then the DVD releases are japanese just with english voice over?

For good or ill, there’s going to be a Blu-Ray release of OVA 3 in Japan:

At least there’d be ready-made material for any eventual English-language release, even though it’s just an upscale of Standard Definition video.

I’d be happy with a bd, it’s still better than dvd even if it’s only an SDBD. Or maybe it’ll be like Avatar did on it’s bd release, sd, but better, (dvd compression can go sakuyafinger1)

Like most, those early days of toonami, though i didn’t get too much into it, as i had choices between toonami (with Tenchi, DBZ, etc.) and Fox’s lineup of “ANIMATION DOMINATION” King of The Hill (I tell ya huwat)Simpsons, Family Guy and so on, and others spread around, plus i had DVD’s of South Park, and games Including south park’s knockoff mario kart game for ps1. If i could go back. dawohki1
