To back up a bit…
Dual does tie into the OVA canon, abliet more in a less direct way. If Tenchi is the main Wiki article, then Dual would be it’s footnotes explaining the content. Kajishima loves being a troll, and yes has said all my series “are connected at the corners”… when in reality they are more connected at the hips like conjoined twins… If you really want me to go “old Dual fan” on ya and divulge details like a broken water main, we can do that too sometime… 😉

Concerning scanlations:
While I try to do little things here and there via machine translations, there are no fluent Japanese readers in the Tenchi community at large. There were a couple several years ago, in a different time, different forums, but they left for various historical reasons.
There was a wife/husband team that tried to translate the novels, but they were shut down. That too, has a history.
The problem is two fold mostly, knowledge (ie being able to know Japanese enough to proof read), and willingness / time to actually work on things.
To actually get scanlating to work properly, we’d need scans of very high quality. What shades of blue has at g.hentai that you referred to is… sometimes usable sometimes not. Granted it’s probably the most complete scan collection though.
If we could actually interest a scanlation group to pick up the novels, doujins, et cetera, that’d be huge. Even a regular that can proof read, is a major plus.
AstroNerdBoy has decided to pay for translations, which he has someone do, but we’re talking about $60-70 a page I think if I remember right. Which is higher than the going rate to have a page illustrated from nothing at devArt… so the majority of people are not keen on that idea.
The other reasons as to the stuff not being translated is multipart:
It was very hard to get a hold of when the community was big.
The content was very controversial, causing rifts in the fandom.
It’s chock full o porn for no reason.
The people that did have doujins or info, generally horded it, instead of releasing it.
Folks couldn’t be bothered to scan or translate in the old days. What was done, was often done to prove a / their own point.
We didn’t have file hosting in those days that could handle more than 10 MB of data, much less the gigs we use now.
So while the old guard from that era have somewhat died off, and unfortunately took a lot of knowledge with them, there’s more opportunity now… we just need sturdy minds and willing hands, to plow the fields and reap the carrot harvest so to speak.
