A new apartment, a few years later and still up to the same old same old. Ayeka and Ryoko are still at each others’ throats, Sasami trying to be the peacekeeper. I loved all of the written instructions on the walls about how long the TV can be on, how experimenting is prohibited (like that’d stop Washu, at any rate), reminders of how long to use the bathroom. Not only is Tenchi out of his element at this school, the girls now have to contain themselves now more than ever. We saw their inability to keep their explosive hands to themselves in Universe, though there was a temporary ceasefire in TMiL2. This is spun off of the OVA continuity though, so those rules may not always apply here.
This felt like a classic Tenchi scene. Bathhouse, Ryoko being ultra-touchy, Ayeka shrieking (fantastic work by Ayeka’s new Seiyuu, who nailed the subtleties of her character) and Tenchi as fed up with it as ever. Welcome home, Tenchi.

Which I suppose is cool if this leads up to something. The best part of the series so far was the brief snapshot of the Masaki household and the conversation with Washu. Not that this is super bad or anything, it’s just kind of “eh”. I think the reason all the wacky stuff with the OG girls worked so well was because they’re aliens, these are just a bunch of normal high school girls who are way too out there for any sort’ve believability.
Well, seeing that Hachiko and Beni are both very talented with their weapons and the two school clubs have massive torture chambers of their own, I’d say they’re anything but normal high school girls. Hana having a record for fastest ability to extract ‘information’ from her subjects, too. The most telling however was the brief sequence at the start of Episode 3 where we see Momo and possibly Beni in a spaceship. There’s more to these girls than meets the eye, it just hasn’t been made as apparent what that is yet. We’re still under 25 minutes in to the entire story so I’m sure there’ll be plenty more on this all before the final credits roll.

There’s plenty which can have parallels easily drawn between them. Makoto and Tenchi, Shayla and Ryoko (same with Ifurita and Ryoko, to a degree) are the most obvious. Nanami being a hybrid of Ayeka’s quick-temperedness and Kiyone’s career-driven aspirations (hadn’t thought about Sasami in there – though she’s lacking in representation so we’ll give it to her) is an interesting combo. One can also easily draw the similarities between Afura and Kiyone, including their penchant for headbands.dualMiz is pretty much pureblood Ayeka. From her obsession with having an authoritative tone, her vanity in regards to her looks and age, right down to her ability to jump from damsel in distress straight to kicking the person’s ass who dare threatens her man.
Ifurita’s OVA form is very easily a zombified Ryoko in terms of connections, but her
The Wandererspersona is almost exactly that of Mihoshi’s. She causes destruction in her wake. On accident mostly, even if her orders from Jinnai are to do exactly that. She can barely remember what she did moments ago and has to keep a notebook with the lessons that Jinnai taught her on her person at all times. Only, it seems she writes down the wrongparts of the lesson in class. Rune Venus is pretty equal to Tsunami in the OVA, being a very caring and worried motherly figure who overwatches the entire drama unfold. No goddess magic though.
Londs & Dr. Schtalubaugh can be seen as counterparts to Azaka and Kamidake. Knowledgeable guardians of the royal palace, with about as stiff a sense of humor as a plank of wood.
The ones that are less obvious are pretty entertaining to try and match up. Fujisawa doesn’t have a direct connection to any one character in the Tenchiverse. When I look at him, I see a bit of Washu’s goofiness (in the nerdy way she does), Ryoko’s ‘hit first, ask later’ attitude when in a dangerous situation, as well as some of Ayeka’s skill for diplomacy whenever he’s acting as an official representative for his students… assuming he hasn’t had a drink. Alielle, well, I don’t have a clue. She’s physically the closest to Sasami but in personality she’s pretty much the furthest from.

Episode 6:I’ve been waiting for a fight between Beni and Hachiko since the beginning and I’m glad it only took me about 23 minutes to get that. It was a short fight sequence, but very well animated. Zero time was wasted, stuffing jokes right next to serious banter and peril abound. Plot itself didn’t go anywhere but that’s fine. Great way to start off the week, with a bang!

One question, has there been any mention of Ryo-Ohki appearing in this series?
Pii and I shared similar thoughts to each other about Ryo-Ohki, it is very strange that she has yet to appear in promo materials nor even be hinted at. I do hope she’s there, not having the mascot of the series would be an unusual move.

Try try a bit of an experiment, . Some people seem offset by the short episode lengths, so we wanted to see how people felt about the content if it played out together with just the usual fade to black transitions between sequences often done in the middle of TV shows. Feel free to check it out and let us know if it makes watching the show better/easier for you.we’ve used Washu’s lab to meld the episodes together into one large Super CutIt’s getting to be about that Halloween time, so ol’ Nil will be digging into his wild & weird stuff to truly celebrate what is the best month of the year. But to start us off, one that isn’t usually considered when you think of ghosts and ghouls. [BBvideo 425,350]
[/BBvideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08RPqUWVRKA Hitting at the very end of the album (or second to last, with the hidden track that comes after it), a Song for the Deaf brings the fictional car-ride the listener goes on to a close. Only, just as the wheels peak at the top of the crest on a hill in the desert, one begins to realize that what’s on the other side wasn’t just more sand and open road. Rather, a pit to the underworld itself has cracked the surface of the earth and a small push from an unseen force sends us careening downward into it.
While the album never shied away from religious imagery, Song for the Deaf was like a slap to the face when you hit it. The way the guitars sounded just so off, the screaming of bassist Nick Oliveri barking in the background in pained cries, it all painted the sky with such a hellish aura. It was as though the road trip we went on wasn’t to go back home, but to go to hell itself.

Momo takes us through a burst of info relating to the week’s events, mentions some interesting info about the size of the campus and name drops a specific location in Okayama. Interesting that she can recite that info, given how airheadded she is otherwise so far.

Yeah, if you’ve ever used Ventrilo or Teamspeak before, it’s like that. When you boot up the program it will bring up a server list, which for you will probably be empty as it is your first time. Just click “Add New” in the bottom of the “Mumble Server Connect” window that should pop up when you start the program and enter the information I sent you via PM!
