The North American home video distributor Discotek announced on Monday through its Facebook page that it will be releasing the original Captain Harlock TV series on DVD. According to the post, the series will be sold as a subtitled, complete box set containing all 42 episodes.

It’ll fit in right next to this and these.

I got into them relatively late (vol. 10?) in the first run, buying the monthly chapter issues Viz put out to comic book shops. Thankfully I had a local Waldenbooks that stocked the TPB’s and I eventually collected all the first editions. And Yume is OLEV (I always read her parts in Lisa Ortiz’s voice).

NTV in Tokyo is the exclusive broadcaster for Lupin. No streaming deal has been announced yet.

Probably have to go the fansub route. :(

The anime company TMS Entertainment began streaming the first promotional video for Lupin III – Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna (Lupin III – The Woman Called Fujiko Mine), the first new Lupin III television anime series in 27 years. The same promotional video played during the 40th anniversary Lupin III anime event on March 18.

Sayo Yamamoto (Michiko to Hatchin) is directing the 13-episode series, making her the first female director on the Lupin III series. Redline director Takeshi Koike serves as animation director and character designer, and AnoHana‘s Mari Okada handles the scripts. Kanichi Kurita plays Lupin, Kiyoshi Kobayashi plays Daisuke Jigen, Daisuke Namikawa plays Goemon Ishikawa, Miyuki Sawashiro plays Fujiko Mine, and Kouichi Yamadera plays Inspector Zenigata.

The series revolves around the character of Fujiko Mine, depicting her and the rest of the Lupin III cast during their younger days. The series will reportedly capture the “sensuality” present in Monkey Punch’s original Lupin III manga in its “daring interpretation” of the franchise.

The series will premiere on April 4.
