Well, SAC 1 is generally better due to the stories. Although, episode 2 is a rip-off from Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA. SAC 2nd GIG has better characterization and animation, “improved” (debatable) Tachikoma. The later part has better stories simple because of Kuze (the lover boy). Btw. there’s a long official article on the love triangle. I wonder if it got translated yet by anyone.

If you want to get more disc get season 1 and the last 3 or so disc from the second.

Yes, and some more at the end where the guy dies. Anyway, with Arise the doors are open to new possibilities. But I have doubts about the personality changes.
In SAC Paz was kind of a lonewolf gangster with lots of possible problem. In Arise he’s like an idealist volunteering because it’s the right thing to do.

Saito is a mercenary who follows the boss who gives the most money. He can change sides anytime. Being a sniper that would end things quite fast.

Batou and his buddies are war mass murderers and getting their second chances.

Kusanagi belonged to an assassin like unit. She’s a dark heroine who kills without a second thought. Making it look like she’s a cold blooded killer but actually has her own moral reasons.

Btw. Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX Online will be available soon in 2014 (first half).

Oh, ok. The anime says they got this fancy new thing at hand so they applied it to her when her pregnant mother died in an accident. It’s some kind of a chamber thing. I dunno if it’s similar to a brain case or what but that’s the only thing that makes sense. I guess an artificial womb will do but then it would be no cybernization.

In SAC, her airplane crashed she had to be cybernated to save her life. The only other survivor was her first love.

    1. Don’t see a problem technically. I guess they wanted her to be a borne cyborg, hence, have her cybernated as early as possible, but a brain needs to grow. Premature babies usually end up less intelligent than their peers either by having less grey matter or other growth reasons. Then there is the issue of maturing, usually at the age of about 6 to 7. So SAC made more sense by having her cybernated at that age.

    2. The Bandam feature! *looks for the bandam banner*

Alright, this will be a bit long of a kind of general review(s). Skip if you don’t want to read:

    GITS Alive review:
    Ep. 1

Kusanagi returns home from a(n international military) mission and is framed for the murder of her ex-boss.

Aramaki and her future mates hunt her & become “friendlies” during the course of the story and eventually help her solve the murder mystery. Kusanagi is promoted to Major. She is now free from being military/government property and gets a recruitment request by Aramaki.

    Ep. 2

An ex-military hero accused mass-murder and his ex-soldiers rebel to disclose the truth about what happened. Kusanagi recruits her team by blackmailing them.

    Gits in retrospect and Thoughts:
I appreciate this new show in the series but Arise is a major departure from the original Gits universe. Hence, it’s less believable for me.

The time line is as follows:

    GITS Arise: 06 June 2027

GITS SAC: 14 April 2030 (parts orginal Manga)

GITS SAC 2nd GIG: (21 December) 2031 (parts orginal Manga)

    GITS Movie 3: Individual Eleven

GITS Movie 1: 2031 (orginal Manga)

    GITS Movie 2- Innocense

    GITS SAC Solid State Society

SAC and the movies are more or less directly related to the original manga with one difference:

Togusa has a daughter and a son in SAC but only one child in the original (if I remember right).

In the original I suppose Kusanagi was cybernated during the war while in SAC she was cybernated at age 6. In SAC cybernation technology started being used in AD 2019.

In Arise Kusanagi was cybernated before birth! A total rewrite and considering her age it should happen about right now or so. At such an early stage she wouldn’t be able to develop like a normal human…no pain, probably no emotion…the ideal Vulcan.

The first time she appears with her bike it’s so reminiscent of Akira or Bubblegum Crisis.

Her relation and recruitment…her mates are just different from their image until now.

I dunno if Aries will turn out good yet, but I don’t quite warmed up to it yet.

Tsk, another unreasonable change. This has little in common with the Argo(nauts) not to mention they are not pirates either set to steal someones secret technology.

Btw. anyone notice the Earth turning the wrong way at the end? I’ve seen this several times in different animes. I wonder if this is intentional from the various animation staffs.

    Strike the Blood

    Sounds familiar?

    It’s about a guy

who during daylight complains: “It’s hot. I’m burning. I’m gonna turn to ash.”

who gets exited with a nose bleed when smelling a girl’s wallet.

In order to keep him in check a girl is sent to take care of him in case something happens. And that’s a promise.

She’s dedicated and works 24/7… but she’s a country bump. As a result, she got hurt by him, bled and needed to be checked but luckily it was a safe day so the test was negative…

And so begins his ascension to fame. Well, that’s the gits of it.

The show is based on (currently) a nine novel series and an abridged manga based on the anime (not cut as much as the seikai mangas).

The story is slow paced and takes quite a while before it gets interesting, though. The whole first novel is just the intro.

There are 37 adventure chapters so it might become a long show…

The impression is that it’s similary to “To Aru Kagaku no Railgun” only dressed differently and more of a harem type. [Imho “Kyoukai no Kanata” is superior.]

    Toshokan Sensou/Library War

Toshokan Sensou The Movie – Kakumei no Tsubasa

Library War: The Wings of Revolution

I finally came around to watch the movie and it’s better than expected.

The movie continues where the show left off.

The war is escalating. Using a faked accident the censorship law has been expanded and to be used to forbid an author from writing.

The Library Defense Force is finally able to take this to the court, but it also mean a do or die situation.

If they lose the constitutional freedom of expression will be practically gone. Once again our protagonists risk their lives for an idea the public doesn’t care.

Sadly, the show and series as a whole has been taken over by recent events. Worse the freedom of speech is being lost without the need of censorship laws.

The recent censorship law passed in Japan this week already censored the news about itself.

Anyway, the movie is unexpectedly well made and has virtually no weakness compared to other movies made for a show. The script and directing made everything look right without looking forceful or trying to bring the audience up to speed on the show. Nothing seems missing or left out or to be desired. The movie wraps up everything in the show, and for all lead and major characters.

Even other characters from the show get an appearance and some role. The movie managed to keep the charm and atmosphere of the show. It has a little less action compared to the show as it addresses the core of the problem instead of fights on the surface. What’s more the BD has over 100 minutes of commentary. I haven’t seen anyone providing this much yet.

It’s a great movie for fans, and perhaps the best one made for a show in this light.

Since it’s a difficult theme and virtually a niche show it may not appeal to everyone, though.

    😯

I knew Atlas was good but I didn’t realized it could pipe the text. Great!

*Hehehe* Perhaps this makes it possible to get the seikai game translated without converting the damn custom encrypted font. But still need to encode it back, though.

As to the source images in general especially when you do the scans and all.

The Kanas/Kanjis should have at least a size of 28×28 preferable more like 32×32 or better.

I usually scan and save as bmp first.

Then I use Irfanview to reduce the colors. Do not reduce colors in one go! It’s best to do it step by step to preserve the structure: e.g. to 65536 to 256 (to 16 (to 2)). You may try and skip a step if it’s possible.

For a reduction to 256 I use the ‘radical image optimization tool’ plugin, it usually gives the best results. File->save for web(plugin)

With Irfanview you can batch every work just make sure of the settings each time, because the last setting might be different. You can save batch scripts, too.

Then save it as bmp or gif then batch convert to png gives the smallest size with best quality. Saving directly to png does not always gives a smaller size due to often bad implementation of the format. PNG can store lower bit colors but people usually program it to store 24 bit so it doesn’t always gives a really smaller size. It’s bothersome when you do some 3D mod and 65552 colors become preferable.

Jpg can get smaller but it blurres everything and may introduce more smeared colors. Well, just saying.
