First impressions: I definitely enjoyed this movie. The special effects/monster fight scenes were spectacular eye-candy. The characters didn’t intrude
toomuch into the movie, and the acting ranged from decent to very good. The movie itself took a little while to get to the good stuff, but the build-up was worth it, and did a very good job of setting up a foreboding and chilly atmosphere of impending doom. The intervals between the monster fights were probably the weakest points in the film, and sometimes seemed a tad too long. I’ve got to say, the publicity guys for the movie did a great job of keeping the key moments and plot points under wraps. I was genuinely surprised at several points throughout the movie. Overall thoughts:
This movie did everything it had to. All the elements of a classic Godzilla movie were in place, and it was both exciting and nostalgic. If I were to identify the main flaw of the film I would say its pacing, but it really wasn’t any worse than Pacific Rim in that regard. All in all, a very good Godzilla movie, and a decent “disaster porn” flick. Fans of Godzilla will not be disappointed, and action fans in general will have plenty to enjoy throughout the film. There wasn’t anything terribly new introduced by this movie, and Pacific Rim is still definitely the standard bearer for modern Kaiju films, but Gozilla measures up quite well nonetheless.
Chuck’s initial rating: 7.5/10

Quote:3 pieces of info revealed about the upcoming Yamato 2199 movie [Ark of the Stars]:
1) key visual
2) enemy will be White comet empire. To clarify, while they didn’t say White Comet Empire, one word did come up on the screen… GATLANTIS.
3) BUT it won’t be another SARABA. [Farewell to Yamato]
No animation for the new movie has actually been completed yet and they only have 6 months to go…

The only thing we Yamato fans can do now is…. let it go.
