Kain Sealed – Space Calendar 507410 = Earth Calendar Year: 1896
Kain destroyed – Space Calendar 507484 = Earth Calendar Year: 1970
Kain’s escape/GP attacked – Space Calendar 507510 = Earth Calendar Year: 1996

Mh, not really is it?The movie is more like :

4 – 1970 adventure
5 – The movie keeps on.
Chaud’s right on this one. The novel is arranged differently from the film, but not by much. The film does open with Kain escaping from GP headquarters, causing its destruction. On his way, he buzzes
Yagamibefore entering Earth’s atmosphere. That event issues an aurora over modern Tokyo, right about the time Tenchi notices his hand and feet phase out for a moment. http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kain-yagami_zpsjwzcuhvg.png " /> - A short, voiceless interlude is shown in Autumn 1970, demonstrating each main character’s placement.
- The film fades from Achika walking through a forest to a grainy 8mm film of her, watched by Tenchi, Ryoko, Ayeka, and Sasami. When Achika vanishes from the film reel and Tenchi briefly vanishes, Washu enters and shields him, explaining the situation. Everyone is gathered to travel back to 1970.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/timemachine_zps7pf2j2wd.png " /> - The 1970 tale is told.
However, that being said, several events are told via flashback/flashforward during the remainder of the film.
Washu and Kiyone read through Kain’s dossier.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kain-database4_zpsp04nc2sj.png " /> - The operative explains to Ryoko how he came to 1970 and Kain’s goals.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/destruction5_zps6lcocgzv.png " /> - Washu tells about the Kain’s imprisonment and the Jurai emperor’s death in doing so.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kain-capture2_zpslxc4vnre.png " /> - Achika sees her own tombstone through her link with Tenchi.
Given all of this, the chapter headings mostly fall in line with the correct sequence of events:
Chapter 1, The world of 1970 (CE) — interlude showing everyone in 1970,
- Chapter 2, 1996, Masaki house’s extinction — the paradox in the present, spurring everyone to go back in time,
- Chapter 3, 1970, Lovely youth — introducing Achika,
- Chapter 4, Space Calendar 507410 …… Kain is sealed off — the flashbacks to Kain’s imprisonment,
- Chapter 5, 1970, Tokyo — the school trip to Tokyo,
- Chapter 6, Space Calendar 507510 …… GP’s annihilation — the film’s opening showing the GP headquarters,
- Chapter 7, 1970, Abnormality in Tokyo’s sky — Kain’s arrival and first battle with Tenchi and the operative,
- Chapter 8, Space Calendar 507484, Kain’s annihilation — Kain’s defeat.
While Kain’s imprisonment and the destruction of the GP headquarters are not in the same places as in the film, the main beats of the story seem in the right place.
Also, Ukinojo’s assessment of the dates seems correct as well. The dialogue clearly says that Kain was imprisoned 100 years ago.
http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kain-database7_zpssfsomtid.png " /> Given Kain’s imprisonment in Space Calendar 507410 and the GP’s destruction in 507510, the difference is 100. Moreover, looking at Kain’s defeat in Space Calendar 507484, the difference with 507510 is 26, the number of years from 1996 to 1970. Without data to contradict the assumption, I find it safe to assume that “Space Calendar” is just a shift of the usual a.D./C.E. calendar, that one Space Calendar unit is the usual solar year on Earth. Likely, this is not done to confuse the reader, but to address the issue that a space-faring civilization need not base its time scale on the birth of a Jewish carpenter on a backwater planet.

The past few months have been very trying, both professionally and personally, so I have not been as productive as I would like. Nevertheless, I have completed another chapter of this story. ^^v However, this chapter is different from its predecessors. As a cross-over, this story pulls from two different mythos,
Tenchiand Men in Black. As Chapter 1 was primarily Tenchi, Chapter 2 is primarily Men in Black, setting up what information would be necessary or of interest to the reader. Also, I got to speculate a lot about interim scenes and backstories.

Maybe 19 means we follow Tenchi, and 17 means we follow Ayeka & Ryoko.
I’ll post the in-text illustrations soon-ish.
Without more information, I would assume the latter situation is most correct. The film bounces between Haruna’s pocket universe (Tenchi/Haruna) and the main universe (Ryoko and the rest). The climax is when Washu bridges the two worlds, allowing Ryoko and Ayeka to confront Haruna in her own domain.
When I get a longer break from work, I will take a closer look at what has been translated. Good on you gentlemen for taking on this task.

Homecomings: Jurai. Enjoy. gendo1 Quote:And now, as before, Ayeka was bathed in azure light.
The clasps holding her hair in place were burned away as a wave of power coasted through her, infusing her once more with her birthright. However, Jurai’s might was far more intense. So much power flowed through her that it sparked down her mane of hair, shifting its natural violet color to azure, the color of the goddess herself. Her hair curled and flowed around her, a shimmering ocean as her locks fanned behind her. The princess’s eyes widened as she could feel the immense force at her command, overwhelmed.
“Awaken at last, Princess Jurai Ayeka,” Tsunami had said to her, “daughter of Jurai.”
Holding her side, Dark Ayeka spun back to her counterpart and stood in awe at the sight she beheld, Jurai Ayeka once more empowered. The thunderheads above were parted by her transformation, shining sunlight down upon the first daughter of the last great emperor of Jurai. Her hair glistened in the bright rays, curling around her face as she hung her head, taking a deep breath to calm herself, to adjust to this new might surging through her. Her mane cascaded down her shoulders and back while she listened and her distant words from the lingering memory.
“As your powers grew,” Tsunami had told the beast, “so did hers. As you tortured cruelly, she endured nobly.”
“Sasami…” Ayeka whispered, “… what do you…?”
“It’s a power you
neverwanted,” Dark Ayeka declared, “that you don’tdeserve. You pushed it on me just like all these damned memories, another piece of psychic refuse.” “And, I’m sorry that I did,” the lady answered, raising her ruby eyes to meet those of her opponent. “This is my responsibility, as are you and all you represent.”
The twisted vision shook her head gravely. “No one can fully accept what they are, not even a Juraian princess. You couldn’t live with what you really are.”
Sliding into a defensive stance, Ayeka replied, “I aim to see for myself.”
The black-clad woman raised her hands at her side, summoning her scarlet energies to her palms. Her onyx mini-guardians gonged into existence, encircling her while the thorned tiara on her brow blazed hotly and fiercely.
“I am
everythingyou have denied yourself, Jurai Ayeka,” she vehemently declared, “all your anger, passion, hate, jealousy, and power. You can’tdefeat me.” As Dark Ayeka began to levitate from the ground, the azure-haired princess manifested her own tan-colored mini-guardians, each topped with a simple Juraiji for “guard”. A gentle blue aura enveloped her while she retorted, “We shall see, won’t we?”

susano wrote:Tenchi had to help his mother by distracting Kain long enough for his mother Achika to use her power to defeat Kain and destroy him.
Moreover, I think you are very mistaken. Achika did not kill Kain. She certainly seemed to wound him severely, but the finishing blow came from Detective Makibi Kiyone with a dimensional cannon.

I openly admit that Achika likely dealt a mortal blow to Kain, and he was probably dying. However, the fact stands that she did not kill him. Makibi Kiyone did.
Therefore, why did Kain not change history by killing Kiyone first? Kiyone’s history in
Universeis never definitively stated. The only real backstory for her is in Hexagram of Love, where she openly admits to being a Juraian commoner. Quote:“Excuse me.” Kiyone interrupted. “I am a Jurian. There is a ship dedicated for use only by those from house Jurai. Setting foot on the ship is impossible if you are not a blood relative of someone from house Jurai. Intruders are automatically obliterated. If the ship is attacked from the outside the Light Hawk Wing shield deploys to defend it. In terms of defense, it is unmatched. House Jurai has put their absolute trust in this ship.”
—
Hexagram of Love, p. 45 Since Kain is known to hate Jurai, this fact could galvanize him to murder Kiyone. Now, I admit that Kiyone’s history in
Hexagramdoes not directly affect her history in Universe, but it might explain why Kiyone knows about the Juraian line of succession in Universeepisode 15. http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kiyone1_zpsv4f3bdtb.png " /> http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/kiyone2_zpst9zcvz4n.png " /> Even disregarding Kiyone’s heritage, the point still remains. Detective Makibi Kiyone killed Kain to save Achika. If Kain could see the future, even only his own death, why does he not target the one who actually killed him?
susano wrote:What he did not expect was the Grandfather Paradox which he had created as a result of killing off Achika.
susano wrote:As a result of his anger at the Jurain Royal Family, Kain had overlook some factors such as Achika’s own son Tenchi.
Again, show some evidence or reasoning as to why Kain can see the future at all, let alone only seeing certain portions of it.

susano wrote:Likely, Universe’s own Tsunami had sense what Kain was going to do, too.
This is possible, but Tsunami is never mentioned throughout the entirety of
Universe, TMiL1, or TMiL2. The companion manga to TMiL2, Eternal Memory, has some images that look like Tsunami, and I have argued for Tsunami’s existence in this continuity now and again. If Tsunami existed in this continuity, I could believe she knew well of Kain’s existence, since he is the polar opposite to her pet nation’s innate power. She might even know his motives, perhaps because she would be a god. However, how does that matter to the question at hand? Nowhere does Tsunami warn Tenchi and his friends about Kain. Nowhere does she intervene on their behalf. Tsunami does not seem to be involved in this incident at all.
Compare this inaction to
Manatsu no Eve, where she is at least mentioned. http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p661/evilpii/Forum/katsuhito-tsunami_zpshr4j05cg.png " /> Yet, that name-drop serves a purpose as it spurs Ayeka to visit the tree Funaho, pushing the story forward.

Manatsu no Evehas nothing to do with TMiL1. Moreover, I currently argue that Tsunami likewise has no direct connection with TMiL1. susano wrote:Members of the Jurain Royal Family do have long life spans in Universe’s own universe.

While Hayashi and Kajishima did work on
Iczer 3together, I do not think they worked together on any one Gall Forceiteration. According to ANN, Hayashi was co-director of Gall Force 2, and Kajishima was an animation director on Rhea Gall Force, which were separate projects at different times. However, all three anime projects predate Tenchiby at least a year, which was my point. The art styles from all three could have directly influenced what we see in Tenchi. ChaudSept wrote:What could be also note is : Since Kajishima is the ultimate character designer, no doubt we can assure that he himself drew the sketches I post earlier. Y’know, while Hayashi or Horiuchi drew dotless Misaki in Hexagram, production arts are definetly from Kajishima’s hand. (Well, most likely, right ?)
This begs the question. Why did Kajishima change his mind? Does having Funaho be first serve some plot purpose, or was it for some other reason? Moreover, why change it in OVA series 2 when it has already been stated in OVA series 1 that “the first wife will be of Jurai”? Doing so introduces an unnecessary contradiction, particularly for those who know Japanese or read the Funimation subtitles.

If said novel existed and spoke to the topic at hand, I would be interested in what it had to say. That might be something to put in the Translation Zone.
gendo1 Ukinojo92 wrote:However, I had a thought of a stretch of a theory. Considering if Kain was being used with conspirators from the Jurai rebellion: What if Kain got out due to a slight helping hand?
It took the entire GP and Jurai armada and emperor to seal Kain away. Guards are always checking if prisoners escape from their cells and have gotten out of their prisons. Considering how much strength it took to seal someone as dangerous as Kain away, the GP and Jurai would have to keep constant eye and upkeep of Kain’s prison. A conspirator with knowledge of Jurai Tech and power could have done something to create a small opening that Kain could exploit from the inside and made it look he escaped on his own.
That is a nifty idea, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. It would also jive with the “weakened Kain” theory you put forward earlier. Again, more data would be needed to substantiate it, but I like it.
Tenchismile Ukinojo92 wrote:evilpii wrote:I like the idea, particularly the bit you said about Kain’s original capture weakening him as well, but no data to support or discount this hypothesis can be found in the film.
The scene where the operative was giving an exposition and it showed Kain’s capture, whether he lost energy or not is debatable I admit. However the scene did show Kain taking damage, at least that’s what I think from the amount of screaming of he was doing. Damage from massive Juraian energy focused on him would have taken a lot out of him and would take time for him to recover.
Also if Kain’s prison was made of combination of Jurai and GP tech, then his cell might have been lined with Jurai energy, like padding for insane patients. His energy would have been kept at bay while he was in his cell by the Juraian power if that was the case.
I would believe Kain took damage during his initial capture, but how much damage and how fast he healed is not topics we are told in the film. It is equally possible that he healed very quickly in subspace and then bided his time, or schemed how to escape. I do not discount your idea, but I argue that it is not the only explanation.
