At this point Uki (yay responding 2 years ago), I’m vague because I haven’t touched the translation stuff for Tenchi in 2 years. I have tinkered with my app setup but not done anything new. Last 2 years have been really bad for me. The GXP novels I “think” start out following GXP’s anime closer initially, but then they continuously seem to diverge more as they go along. Major plot points still occur but there’s a lot more going on around them. It’s like GXP novels have more in common with the OVA trying to be a space action show, but then it drops into the anime’s perverted or sad emotional side, with little middle ground.
As I mentioned in the Discord, I was working secretly on PW and GXP 13 to rip and try to get a general quick translation overview when the board closed. So I know more than the average English only person, but it’s really fuzzy and incomplete. I know that 13 references that Mitsuki’s counterpart is supposed to have died in a previous book and then she ended up in the mainframe (if I recall as part of the Daluma guild or Shank’s ship) and she got downloaded to a cabbit during the capture. Then Mitsuki’s rescue and reuniting with her father Dr. Sanada counterpart takes place in these books. What all took place in between or in that first book, we don’t know because no one has pursued the GXP translations outside of myself.
Part of this doesn’t fully make sense either, because several years ago Mary hosted the images for the first 3 GXP novels, and the Mitsuki and Dr.S counterparts were in there. The story as it went was that Seina’s data got sucked into the GP mainframe and went on an adventure of sorts with the Mitsuki data there. Being that we see Washu, Naja, and Dr. S talking later at the GP, in the flesh… either we’re talking about a set of physical people and a set of digital people, or Seina and Mitsuki at least, end up SAO’d into the computer. D and this other green haired AI are also a question mark because the novels rewrite it so D is in Zinv (no longer called the Idol) when it is found on the Wau planet. So D being an AI being pushed into a cabbit is also ????
Bottom line, more would have to be done for translation and clarifying what was said in order to get a decent picture.

No no Rara’s. I’ve seen photos of a couple Mitsuki Sanadas, one really hot one in Japan…. and of course me, chuck, and Mittens did D, Kazuki, and Commander Sanada at Otakon, but that’s it. - October 17, 2017 at 4:48 PM

But fans of what? The argument can and has been made that current Tenchi and TU/OVA1+2/Tokyo bear little resemblance to each other. That shift point is clearly GXP which was more in our era. Is it “Tenchi” simply because the original creator signs off on it, or because of the name? Or is it a veneer? Does it stand up to the litmus test? If a content “extension” doesn’t fall in line with the original works, consumers are understandably going to have some form of knee jerk reaction to it. People swallowed Pretty Sammy easier than this, and it was rightfully it’s complete own spin off. If AIC had come out and merged Sammy into the OVA, so we had 2 Sasamis and Ryo-Ohkis, it probably wouldn’t have been met warmly.
I had this problem with AI, which if you actually go and look at the posts here while it was coming out, there were criticisms of it. Post AI, badmouthing it was basically not tolerated. The same can be said of any of any Tenchi branded series, GXP being the glaring start point, although Tokyo could be a candidate, but to a much lesser degree. It’s divisive to the community, eventually you get the likes and don’t likes in their own groups and shots are fired, till you have people that can’t see eye to eye anymore.
Even among those that were here, the last bastion. Over the matter of the OVA continuation and his doujins, the fan community shattered. Particularly with niche series, and harem is now a niche, it’s hard to get the word out if a major release is made to the target audience. With no community hub, that just makes it all the harder. So here we are.
Granted, to your point, Tenchi got noticed when the bumper for OVA3 ran on Toonami. But the resounding reply by those that “had” seen OVA3 already was “not my Tenchi.”

Love to see you around Beagle, but I’d have to say most of what you list, is the reason this board, and our board, and every previous board fell slowly apart, besides the trolls…. Kajishima’s story just isn’t interesting anymore, it’s a ton of incest and politics. To what end is what everyone keeps asking… and how they don’t have genetic defects is anyone’s guess. Maybe the god aura purifies the whole thing. The only bit all this solves, is the 21st century dojin, where they have left earth. This ventures to explain why, they are being found out by the rest of the world.
