Two misses from Sentai for me so far.

My interest in Parasyte is almost non-existent. Ditto for Akame ga Kill. They’re both the kind of dark, gritty, horrible-things-happening-to-people shows that I don’t enjoy watching. I’ll give them both a fair shot, but I don’t suspect I’ll make it far in either of them.

Do my ears deceive me? Is that Yuta’s voice actress voicing the lead character?

    God Eater

    Rokka

    EDIT:

New trailer just dropped for Classroom Crisis. I was expecting more of a slice-of-life with a sci-fi backdrop, but this trailer certainly seems to suggest it’s much more than that.

    My finale prediction:

The three lab children will somehow swap back to their original bodies. Guriko knew her original body was failing but may not know that it can literally only last for one more Uberfication. They’ll all Uberfy for one final face-off, with Guriko inadvertently sealing her own fate.

Still no idea how they’ll deal with all those missiles flying at the apartment though…

…or how they’ll deal with the spirit of Qmay’s founder, who’s apparently now inhabiting the body of a military commander.

Just two weeks to go until the Summer anime season begins. It’s getting about time to decide what upcoming shows catch your interest.

The upcoming slate of titles can be viewed on AniChart and at ANN.

    Must-watches:

Durarara x2 Ten – I’m always up for more Durarara! Will wait for the simuldub though.

Gate – I love fantasy series, and this one which involves modern-day people from the JSDF entering a portal to a fantasy world is one of my most anticipated of the season.

God Eater – Studio Ufotable. Giant monster hunting. Need I say any more?

Ushio & Tora – I posted about this on the previous page. Seems like a fun and interesting shonen series and kid of a surprise adaptation, considering the manga ended 19 years ago.

Somewhat interested/will at least try out:

A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist (aka Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai) – Here’s this seasons comically long sentance-as-a-title series. Premise seems super silly.

Aoharu x Kikanjuu – Sounds interesting., but killing game/survival series are extremely hit-or-miss for me. I’m curious to see how this one turns out.

Chaos Dragon – The creators of Madoka, Fate, Durarara, Rental Magica and others played a tabletop RPG session that is now being adapted into an anime. I have no idea what to expect, but the names behind this sure catch my attention.

Classroom Crisis – Sci-fi high school auto club? I always liked the auto club aspects of AMG.

Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa – Rom-com, premise sounds amusing. Guy who’s terrible at keeping secrets discovers that classmate has wings and, of course, has to keep it a secret.

Jokamachi no Dandelion – Premise is… weird, but funny. I’m keeping my eye on this one until I know more.

Monster Musume – I’ve heard fairly good things about the manga. Seems entertaining, if nothing else.

Prison School – From the trailers and what little I know of the manga, it’s an extremely silly, hilarious, fanservice-heavy comedy series.

Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace – I love murder mysteries, but again, killing/survival game series are very hit or miss for me. It has my attention, but I need to know more.

Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers – Another fantasy series? Yay!

Snow White with the Red Hair (aka Akagami no Shirayuki-hime) – More fantasy! And based on the story of Snow White apparently.

    On the fence:

Bikini Warriors – If it’s like the earlier Queen’s Blade series, and is actually a decent fantasy show despite the boobs, then I’ll give it a shot. If it’s just boobs and nothing else I’m not going to bother.

Danchigai – Short-form comedy series. Premise sound interesting, but this is likely one of the first I’d pass on if I end up with too many shows to watch.

Kurayami Santa – A short-form horror series. I’m mostly interested by it’s 60’s anime aesthetic, which makes it look like a “for kids” kind of horror show. It remains to be seen how creepy it actually is.

    Continuing series:

    Food Wars

    My Love Story

    Ninja Slayer

…and more? I don’t actually know how long some of the other shows I’m currently watching are supposed to be.

    EDIT:

Added Aoharu x Kikanju. Totally forgot about that one…

Ushio and Tora is a show caught my interest back when it was first announced, because I love it when modern remakes/adaptations of old anime/manga retain the retro character designs. After seeing this trailer and hearing the premise, this quickly shot up to be one of my most anticipated shows of the summer season.

The beginning even vaguely resembles Tenchi Muyo.

    Here’s what it’s about, in a nutshell:

Our protagonist is Ushio, who is the son of a priest and lives at a shrine. He discovers an ancient demon sealed away in the shrine’s basement, pierced by a holy spear. The kid isn’t stupid though, and realizes pulling the spear out would be a very, very bad idea, and just leaves him there. But the damage was already done. Just by opening the door, he let out the demon’s scent, which starts attracting other demons to his town who begin attacking people and destroying things.

Realizing he has no other options, he strikes a deal with the demon in the basement. Freedom in exchange for destroying the other demons and saving the town. The demon agrees and Ushio pulls the spear out, but surprise, surprise, the demon had no intention of keeping his word and tries to kill him. But wait! The spear grants Ushio powers and transforms him into a superhuman/demon hyrbrid. Realizing that this was the same power that his original captor used to seal him away, and not wanting to be trapped in that basement again, the demon begrudgingly keeps his word and saves the town. Because he eventually kept his word Ushio doesn’t want to kill him, but also realizes that he can’t be trusted to not, y’know, be evil and kill people without the threat of being sealed away again looming over his shoulder.

And so begins the odd partnership of Ushio and the demon, Tora, as they travel Japan together slaying demons, with Ushio constantly keeping a close eye on Tora’s actions, while Tora patiently waits for Ushio to drop his guard so he can kill and eat him.

As of Sunday night, the submission period for the 2015 Halloween contest has ended. In total they received a whopping ~1500 designs, thanks in large part to the lack of the “one entry per person” rule the previous two contests had. By comparison, the first and second contests only received about 400 and 300 entries each, respectively. Given the sheer amount of entries they’ve received they may not even be able to publicly showcase them all. Hopefully many DLC packs come from this, as they certainly have enough costume ideas to last them years.

I still don’t know if there’s actually going to be any fan-voting like before, but it’s looking less and less likely. Based on some comments from Team Ninja, it seems they may just be picking costumes themselves and leaving it at that. Things previously got a bit heated in the Facebook and Twitter comments with some people whining about winning designs, throwing around accusations of cheating and rigged votes, and trashing the art of the less artistically-talented submitters. If they don’t do another fan-vote, I really can’t blame them. At least this way the only rude comments people can make are that the folks at TN have poor taste…

Regardless, thanks to everyone here who would have supported our designs had there been a vote.

    Here are my finished designs:

With another Halloween contest on the horizon, I figured I’d share my WIP costume designs.

    Fisherman outfit for Bass.

*This one has already been tweaked since I took the picture. I’m ditching the lure on the hat and instead including a fishing pole on his back, with the lure dangling on the end.

Fantasy female light armor for… someone. Haven’t decided who to give it to yet.

    So, Punch Line episode 7.

Basically Big Payoff Episode Part 2. Not quite as exciting as the previous one, but we still learn a number of important details here.

Turns out Yuta isn’t really transgender after all. All of the children from the lab swapped bodies. Yuta is really Pine (the boy) in the body of Chiyoko (the dark-haired girl). Chiyoko ended up in Mikatan’s (aka Guriko’s) body*. And perhaps most surprising, the real Guriko is in Pine’s body (i.e. the terrorist leader).

*Now that I think about it, this was actually subtly hinted at in the flashbacks, and was something I noticed but never put too much thought into. Mikatan does her eyelashes the same way Chiyoko did hers. Guriko’s look different.

So Yuta, technically being a guy trapped in a girls body, started dressing and acting like a guy (I also noticed that Chiyoko’s hair seemed to change from brown to bluish after the body swap, not sure if that means anything or if it was just the lighting). At least I don’t have to feel weird about shipping Yuta and Ito anymore, lol.

Also neat (and something I speculated on before, but haven’t mentioned here) was that all of the named-but-unseen characters would show up at some point. And indeed, we finally got to see Yuta’s sister (who DEFINTELY plays a bigger part in this whole thing than we were initially led to believe) as well as the guy from the lab mentioned by the children in the flashbacks (who’s name escapes me, but I know was mentioned previously). Off the top of my head, the last unseen character is Rabura’s little brother. I’m curious to see how/if he comes into play.

It’s not entirely clear what happened to everyone else after they drove into that river during the escape from the lab. Guriko in Pine’s body ends up… somewhere and eventually joins Qmay, while Chiyoko in Guriko’s body was still with the lab-guy driving the getaway van after this. As revealed in Episode 6, he supposedly dies protecting Guriko before Meika meets her and takes her in.

Last episode, after Yuta’s big reveal, I kinda wanted to see how Yuta would look in girls clothes. I didn’t expect that to happen so soon, and actually, I wasn’t really sure it would happen in-show at all. So imagine my amusement when it actually happened the very next episode.

Having said that, something about the scene with all the girls in the dresses and makeup was kinda weird though. Several characters hair colors were mismatched, which is presumably it’s their “real” hair colors, like Ito for instance, who obviously had brown hair that she dyed blonde. The ones that don’t make sense are blonde Rabura (who had dark hair in the flashback to her being posessed as a child, unless I’m not remembering right) and Meika having Rabura-like green hair when her hair was clearly always brown in every one of her flashbacks.
