Wow, things really ramped up in 52 and 53. The GP set their plan into motion. Washu made her first non-flashback/cameo appearance. The Science Club gets to kick some butt. Not to mention tons of nods to Universe. Although I did find it odd that when they knocked out that soldier so they could go after the missing girls no one else seemed to react in any way even though there were plenty of people around, until that other soldier eventually decided to aim his gun at them.
Here’s my 2 cents on the missing Kiyone/Ryo-Ohki debate:
I’m seeing a lot of assumptions on why Kajishima and Hasegawa might be the reasons for Ryo-Ohki and Kiyone’s absence, but that’s not typically how these kinds of rights usually work.
AIC is the rights holder to Tenchi, not any specific person. That should include all characters tied to the franchise as well. They respect and acknowledge Kajishima as the original creator, which I assume is why they pretty much let him do whatever he wants with “his continuity.” But they can also do whatever they want with their own IP, as we know based on all of the non-Kajishima-involved Tenchi ventures they’ve done.
I really doubt Hasegawa has any creative control over how characters she created for a non-original work are used by the IP holder of said work. At the end of the day, Kiyone is still a “Tenchi character.” Perhaps, because she wasn’t involved with ATM, they
chosenot to use Kiyone as a courtesy of some sort. But I have a hard time believing there was anything preventing them from doing so if they wanted to. I would assume they simply didn’t want any extraneous characters, so even though it would’ve been nice to see Kiyo and Ohki, they didn’t needto be there… so they weren’t. For a series with barely a 5-minute runtime, the cast is already crowded as it is. wwwwhhhhoooo wrote:However, as Hasegawa was involved with
Universeon some level, it makes sense that Kiyone could appear there (for those following along, this is also the precise reason whyyou will never see KiyoneMakibi, i.e. the original Kiyone, in any series helmed by Kajishima ). *cough*Dual*cough*

Despite the movie already having been released, this new “must see” trailer, as they put it, was just uploaded today. [BBvideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrg6kSZYhIk [/BBvideo] - December 13, 2014 at 5:59 PM

- in reply to: Vote for WisperG’s DOA5 costume!
Over the past few months several contest costumes (mostly from the 1st contest) have been confirmed for inclusion in the upcoming DOA5: Last Round. They also released a Halloween set for DOA5U back in October that included many outfits from the 2nd contest (the Halloween-specific one), but I’ll get to that some other time. Anyways, figured I’d share a few, for those curious. Some you may recognize as “winners” that I posted here, others weren’t, which is nice that even ones that didn’t “win” are still getting included in the game. I’ll post more later.
There aren’t great screenshots of all the ones we know of thus far, but these first 4 are a side-by-side comparison with the original fan design, courtesy of Tyaren at FreeStepDodge (a DOA fansite). I’ve gotta say, they all look fantastic in-game. Of note, a few have had minor details changed or omitted in the transition from art to game, while others are basically identical.

As far as I know, this is the only official screenshot of this outfit of hers.

In other news, the first of the two “new” characters being added to Last Round was announced recently. And they’re resurrecting Raidou, the deceased boss of DOA1, as a cyborg
I love how part of his epic ‘stache got cyberized as well, lol

Ok, I’m now caught up through Episode 49 I’ll echo what some others have mentioned already and say that Momo is a lot smarter than we’ve given her credit for. I am kinda surprised she basically laid out all of her feelings towards Tenchi to the whole school, but I suppose with her wisely playing along with the scandal she didn’t have many alternatives.
And could it be!? Was that another teacher sitting next to Ukan and Tenchi? They do exist! Quick, call The Discovery Channel! Tell them a Junai Academy teacher has been spotted in it’s natural habitat!

I CANNOT WAIT for next week’s episodes.

I’m slightly behind again blush1 Episode 46Unsurprisingly, Yuki has resorted to cheating and bribery.
I spy a Jojo reference, but I wonder if it was worded like that originally or if it was on the translation team’s end?
gendo1 Kumo-kun appears once again! It seems Touri is also afraid of spiders, but to no-one’s surprise Hachiko is not.
I do find it strange that Tenchi and Beni were basically just standing there the whole time waiting for Momo to throw the “bomb.” Maybe Beni spilled the beans to Tenchi?
Episode 47Yuki and Rui sure do have some amusing toys, courtesy of Washu it seems.
So the science club (?) is pulling out the big guns and is trying to create a scandal. Didn’t think they had it in them, assuming this was Yuki and Rui’s doing. Things aren’t going too well for Tenchi at the moment, especially once Ukan gets him in her clutches.
Also, Momo’s run at the end just doesn’t… look right. If you pause on a few frames you can tell they just mirrored her chest. While her chest is swinging to the left the perspective looks off.
EDIT:
It just occurred to me after seeing one of GaianKnight’s posts that this picture was from when Washu briefly showed up and shoved Momo into Tenchi before quickly disappearing WAAAYYY back during the school festival, wasn’t it?
Episode 48Momo goes to confront Ukan, who is willing to overlook any sort of punishment if Momo wins the election. And if I understood that right, Momo is apparently looking for something too, like Beni?
I really like how many things were handled in this episode. We learn that Ukan’s insistence throughout the series that Tenchi keep physical contact with the girls to a minimum had some deeper meaning to it than simply being a running gag where Tenchi gets dragged off and “punished” repeatedly. It seems she was well aware that it would be a ripe opportunity for rumor and scandal with the elections fast approaching.
It also shows that there can be consequences for harem tropes, and it’s quite rare for a show like this to consider that angle. Most other shows would never have thrown a wrench into the works like this, opting instead to brush off an awkward moment (even a teacher x student moment) like as this as something silly, maybe have some teasing from the other characters, give the viewer a laugh, and then get right back to status-quo. They’ve averted some of the usual harem/rom-com expectations, and for that I commend them.

Quick thoughts on this week’s episodes. I just wrote them today, but I probably should’ve done them as I watched each since some details on the earlier ones started to get fuzzy… Episode 41Nice touch with the Sailor Moon reference. Touri is still a creep. Plot teases abound and setup for Ryoko/Hachiko and Hana/Ayeka fights.
Episode 42I loved the Hackiko/Ryoko fight. Hachiko has another humorous breakdown and Ryoko’s reaction was priceless. But didn’t Hachiko have a bunch of swords stashed in her skirt? What happened to those?
The result of Hana/Ayeka’s fight was funny, although I hope we don’t start seeing Hana write questionable dojinshi starring Ayeka…
Kiyofacepalm1 Dat plot. Momo’s sword make’s a reappearance (or key or whatever it’s called), although it fell down an even bigger hole…
Part of the old school building collapsed, but the whole thing almost looks like it’s sinking although it’s still standing when we see it again next episode.
Episode 43My favorite episode of the week!
What the heck was that giant yellow thing Ryoko and Ayeka were fighting over in the bath? A sponge of some sort?
Oh gosh, the students intend to spend the night with the Masaki household. And now they’re cooking.
lol, very happy to see Ryoko’s tentacle monster soup(?) return.
Washu is still using a monolith, it still up to things and is still being vague.
My jaw dropped at those reveals at the end. Ukan apparently is (or at least working with) the GP, and Mihoshi is working under her. Holy crap. I did not see either of those coming O.O
Episode 44Hey look, male characters not named Tenchi!
That was a nice shot of GPHQ from space. Very cool to see them get involved. I had no idea they had a SWAT team though
More goofy antics with the Student Council. The different approaches to the election posters between them and the Science Club were hilarious, as was Hachiko’s reaction to Hana deleting her Momo pictures
😆 Hachiko’s tablet also has a magical, disappearing… strap(?) on the back. You can see it in Nil’s gif. It vanishes when Hana deletes the pics
