Action & storywise it’s your typical evil/massacre anime with scifi stuff like Mospedia. For the most part its about average but it’s about one of the rare animes with the “Tomino kill them all” disease. The last episodes are best. At least watch those. 😉

Well, Slayers is very much alive and popular if you ask me. Just look at the recent Slayers Revolution/-R.

    Miyuki needs new love!

As well as other near dead ones: Master of Mosquiton; Urusei Yatsura, 3×3 Eyes

It’s Yamato and the World Masterpiece Theater 😉

    Heidi, Nils Holgerson, Hippo-something, something-chan….

Rebirth/Resurrection has a good beginning battle, and the new designs are really good but soon after it starts all the worshiping and glorification of Godai and Yamato repeatedly. As if you needed to be reminded of the reason you are watching. The story line follows some inconceivable plot that leads to the saving of life in the whole galaxy (not just known space) with Earth being a unique planet of life…. not even the oldest scifi novels I’ve read were so egocentric.

I’m not saying the staffs were doing a bad job but I think they were too focus to please the old hardcore fans than let the better ideas come to fruition.

I think the live action was best in how it managed to bring the show over to our times. Well, the Gamilons were certainly made too alien and “powerful” (to have to deal with apes 😈 )

Anyway, just like with other classics I feel the originals are mostly better and will be first for me, too.

As to history, well, I saw Yamato as a baby and when I got to understand it, it was already into its last airing. It was enough to bring me into scifi. Although, part of that was also due to the Dirty Pair show that aired at the same time. In a way they are my introduction into anime (among others), although it took a long time before I became an anime fan. The rest is a history of all the famous classic animes.

Back to the old days of entertainment and drama:

Idol Densetsu Eriko = Legendary Idol Eriko

I will mention an old and famous but as good as gone show:

    Cat’s Eye

The original anime/manga not the old or new live action.

Well, after catching up a bit on all the “new” movies and remakes I have to say I’m a bit caught in the middle.

On one side you got the old style adventure plots, on the other you got new tech mixed into old style interfaces. Also the actual action scenes got updated (more reasonable). The mixing of old and new just looks and feels weird to me. The original still feel better. *shrugs*

I dislike the Yamato: Rebirth movie the most. All that glorification and centricity is just over the top unrealistic.

    Only got the first one.

#2 no longer available since this year, and it’s not among the x PB of our community’s repository.

I entered Nana Mizuki museum’s in order to borrow it … but it’s not among the items there 😆 .

Change “are” to “were” and you might have a point. But the topic is about titles that are not popular now and not exclusively about titles that were never popular. Also being considered influential really doesn’t mean a damn thing, when we’re talking about the popularity of a product outside Japan.

Then there would be no need for a non-popular thread. A simple listing of classics would do which already exists for ages on well known sites.

Influental means a lot for the anime universe which is as good as everything. Who cares about anything not related to anime then?

And if you haven’t notice pretty a great portion of cartoon is very like anime now and not just the look but also the way they are written. Also not to mention the computer games and movies industry, lots of anime like designs as well as paid japanese staff.
