Har! The nice thing about being in the middle of reworking FAQ 3.0 is having some of this information fresh.

What was the deal with the Tenchi’s cat in episode 1? Why was it on the roof of Tenchi’s school and why did it disappear?

This was covered in 101 Secrets in question 85 which I’ll reprint here:

It was used as a prototype of Ryo-ohki.

    More details:

A cat called Chibi appeared in ep.1 but was never seen again. It was used by Ryo-ohki. More ]precisely it was assimilated into Ryo-oh-ki. Therefore. Ryo-oh-ki is Chibi and Chibi is Ryo-oh-ki at the same time. Tenchi found Chibi on the first day of his summer holiday (ie, just before ep.1 starts), lying near the steps and nearly dead. He took care of it, which recovered by the time ep.1 started. But it was Ryoko in her astral body who really saved Chibi. She felt so sorry for Tenchi that she used her energy to keep it alive. When Ryoko eventually revived completely, she had to withdraw her energy from Chibi and allow it to die. She did her best by assimilating it into the second generation Ryo-oh-ki. Tenchi, having seen Ryoko holding Chibi’s bell in her hand (ep.1), may think Chibi was Ryoko herself.

If you’ve seen the Pioneer version, you may not have even known the cat had a name. But in the Japanese, when Tenchi sees the cat on the roof, he clearly calls it by name, Chibi. BTW, “chibi” means small or tiny. Anyway, based on this answer, we now know why Ryo-ohki looks like a half-cat half rabbit combination.

“Lashara-sama” is now “Princess-King Lashara?” *_* “Dagmyer-sama” is now “Sir Dagmyer?” *_* Seriously, I miss the good old days when FUNimation’s subtitles kept the Japanese honorifics in as a bone to fans like myself. Also, I miss the days when they posted the Romaji name of stuff too, such as “Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari” in the episode and not just the renamed version.

For those wondering, FUNimation does NOT have either Pretty Sammy titles, nor any of the offshoots like Photon or Dual! I’ve no clue on whether they would or not. Assuming WoG does well, I could ping them about the Kajishima-angle for licensing Photon and Dual! (at the very least).

    OK, I have some answers.

On the blu-ray front, nothing has been stated yet, so we don’t know if WoG will get a BD release as well as a DVD one.

On the name, it was a marketing thing, which makes sense. As suspected, tagging it “Tenchi Muyo” links it to the franchise (which makes total sense to me since there are a lot of casual anime fans who won’t make the same connection). “War on Geminar” does state what the series is about, plus it throws in an action element into the title that “Saint Knight’s Tale” would not. As I said, it makes sense to me.

For those who may have been curious (I’ve had people ask), FUNimation doesn’t have either “Pretty Sammy” title, so they have almost everything Tenchi.

Further, there are hints that Kenshi may have been sent to Genimar rather than being pulled from there.

More like beaten over the head with it. 😉

It’s been a long while since I watched it, so I couldn’t remember exactly how strong the hints were. 😆

There are conversations in the series that he was found at the summoning site, but no signs of the summoning ritual being performed; the planetary alignment wasn’t correct for the ritual to be performed; and that he’s too young to have been summoned during the last period where it would have been possible.

Yeah, I’m remembering this now that you mention it. Well, at least one of us hasn’t had our brain cells killed off by constant battles with India. :P

I’ve wondered how much the Choushin are actually involved, other than Washu. I tend to suspect Rea is more involved in Kenshi going over, but there’s nothing to base this on other than personal feelings, which could easily be wrong. I can’t imagine Kenshi being sent over without Rea’s say-so, and I can’t imagine her giving approval unless there were a pretty good reason for her son to go traveling across dimensions/universes.

Frankly, in addition to seeing the Shin Tenchi Muyo! novels adapted as anime, I’d like to see a sequel to WoG to get some answers.

Nice to see you are alive ANB, and yes, feel free at any time to jump on mumble and discuss things, we’d love to pick your brain

I’m always alive, just depends on “where” I’m alive at. *lol* It usually is easy to be “alive” on Twitter, even at work. Then, there are times when I’ve just got to play the Facebook game “War Metal,” ’cause that’s how I roll. ^_~

I find it funny (or FUNi lol) that they used the same cover and side pics as the bootleg company “fx” used way back in the day

*LOL* Now that is funny. I hadn’t gone out looking for covers to date. Hmmm…pondering on whether I want to pick up TU or not. I used to own the old Pioneer box set back in the day, but it got purged along with a lot of other stuff to help pay medical bills several years ago.

It was really fun being in the room when they announced the new Tenchi DVD releases and the ISM release. I think only myself and Mittens knew of ISM’s existence before that moment, and the excitement the crowd showed over a “new” Tenchi series was amazing! I only hope that we too can be experiencing that sensation with an actual new release soon! Fingers crossed!

You know, I actually got up early just to get the live transcript for the panel, so I could hit “publish” seconds after the word officially came from FUNimation’s lips regarding ISM (or as I should now say, “WoG”). I was highly disappointed that nearly 45-minutes of the panel was wasted on saying stuff that almost everyone in the room already knew. From a marketing point of view, I can’t imagine this gaining any extra sales. Folks there are (1) already fans of FUNimation products and (2) already well versed on when the titles they want to buy are being released. However, FUNi knows that everyone is there for the new license announcements, so why not hold them captive and repeat what we’ve already said at previous cons?

So, was it you guys who asked the first question (which was Tenchi related)?

Nice to see you on something again my friend (besides you know..twitter, FB, and the blog)

*lol* Yeah, I admit that I don’t get to hit forums like I used to. Heck, I barely show up at FUNimation’s forums just to do MOD work. ^_^; (Though part of that is due to their site being terrible on lag to get the servers to respond to a click.)

Still, thanks for bringing me back over here. And yeah, I know I need to get the URL for this forum updated on the site. Believe it or not, I do have a sticky on my upper monitor to remind me. ^_^;;;; These days, when I get time off, I often don’t even want to do anything productive (which is why the FAQ site upgrade hasn’t happened yet).
