I do snow, but they are all big chain stores so they only keep the most recent manga in stock. Thanks for the advice though I might hit up my school’s anime club library to see if they’ve got it. - August 22, 2013 at 8:55 PM

I can’t really see Universe Mihoshi getting first in the class (unless some horrible computer error happened and placed her there by accident!
😆 )
For some reason, I am reminded of the Pretty Sammy OVA’s, where Mihoshi is a college student and Kiyone had failed her entrance exams.
Very true Nobuyuki. I guess Kiyone stayed up too late studying the night before and overslept for her test😆 I also suspect that the whole thing is just a (very well done) comic scenario cooked up by the writers to poke fun at the overachievers of the world.I’m sure there is a “tvtropes” page that describes what I mean lol.

When I was standing in line for my Jad Saxton autograph at Otakon this summer, I stood next to a very nice guy who was a big fan of all things Sasami! He had probably the largest collection of Pretty Sammy, and Magical Girl’s Club materials I have ever seen (it was also the only Pretty Sammy, and Magical Girls Club collection I have ever seen so…. 😆 )! Anyway, we got talking and we both agreed that Sasami, more so than any of the other Tenchi girls, has seen the biggest drop in “popularity” in the larger anime community. Visually, as well as personality wise, she was EXTREMELY popular in the aftermath of Tenchi’s premier on Toonami in the early 00’s. If I were to engage in some social science for a moment, I would probably theorize that her drop in popularity is due to the aging of the anime community. As Tenchi fans grew up, they drifted away from the cute, bubbly Sasami and moved more towards the more adult characters. What do you guys think? All I know is that I like Sasami as a character, and I hope that she will never be forgotten as one of anime’s cutest and best developed young female characters.Shout out to the Sasami fan who was nice enough to talk Tenchi with me while we waited in line. If you’re out there, stay cool man!

Thanks for the hard work pii! It really turned out great, and will be a nice resource to turn to in future Tenchi art style conversations Thanks to everyone else for chiming in too with suggestions and clarifications about other artists who have worked on Tenchi, some of whom I hadn’t even heard of before! It just goes to show that Tenchi really was a huge and highly collaborative entity in its day! Personally, I think I prefer Okuda’s style the best, although that may just be my personal bias peeking through

This brings up something interesting. Where is Kiyone from? I’m assuming not from Jurai, or else we probably would have heard more about it in the show. One of Jurai’s colony worlds perhaps? Something similar to Earth in the OVA continuity? Or some as yet undetermined planet in the Galactic system. For some reason I’ve always kinda had this image of Kiyone coming from a planet with lots of water. I don’t know why, maybe its her teal hair

Good luck! Also, congrats on your strong national currency. Ours has been crap against most other developed countries for a long time now. Not that it’s entirely a bad thing mind you, it does mean our dollar dominates the exchange market and people buy our stuff more, but it sure does suck for our vacations! Lol. Anyway, have fun with your new “arm candy”
😆 and be sure to show us how it turns out!- August 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM

OMG, awesome pics Dagon and Stepdad! I love that someone, somewhere out there was a fan of Tenchi and EVA so much that they created this image for what we are assuming is a game! I would totally get that poster if it was for real btw 😆 Stepdad, is that an actual screen cap or has it been edited? I’m assuming it’s from the second Pretty Sammy OVA, and it’s been a while since I’ve watched it but I would be very amused to learn that Washu actually did the “Gendo” pose in the show!

Plus Sasami Stories.
Surely you mean Muyo rather than “Moyu” right? Also, I’m not aware of any printing of the Okuda manga that was simply called “Tenchi Muyo.” Are you sure you are reading it properly? Finally, I am jealous of you Sasami Stories. It’s the ONLY Okuda I haven’t been able to track down on the web.

Well, there was that super short scene in OVA 3 where Sasami pulls out that battle staff thing from her pony-tail. I don’t remember if she put on her “war paint” like in this pic though…

I like this one a lot Tearatone! The wood looks a lot more intricately carved this time around. The world of Tenchi-kens is getting bigger these days, but I do enjoy seeing you hone your technique and continue to use actual wood. I wish you the best of luck with your sales, unfortunately I cannot be a customer as I once again find myself drawn into the expensive world of higher education.
