The box set that is sold by Voyager Entertainment is usually pretty expensive. I picked mine up from starblazers.com when they were having a BIG sale and it still came to about $80! The set itself is very nice, the disks have some cool special features and it comes with a nifty booklet that has translated interviews with Matsumoto and various other production crew members. I suggest that you watch the movies on Manga Entertainment’s You Tube channel first, so you know if you like them before dropping the cash on the dvd set. The first two movies are ADEQUET substitutes for the first two seasons and movies 3 and 4 are fantastic movies. So for a newcomer to Yamato I would say to watch them on Manga’s You Tube channel (links to them are in my post detailing the optimum watching order) and then decide if you want the set. - November 28, 2012 at 3:40 AM

I wouldn’t “mind” if it wasn’t Okuda, so long as the artist is similar.
Well, there was the American TU manga series, but yeah………. let’s not go there! lol.
Anyway, I could see a TU manga working out well. I think the OVA universe lends itself better to the manga genre, but the TU universe introduces a lot of new characters and concepts that were left unexplored. I think a TU manga would be most beneficial in that it would show us the TU universe more in its own element, instead of largely being viewed through the lens of the OVA like it sort of was in the animation. Sadly, however, unless they decide to make a sequel TU series I don’t think that we’re likely to see a TU manga. It’s a great thought to sink your brain into though, I must admit! What do you guys think?

Well, since you’re the newcomer you must be…… bth__noikeic Lol, JK! You study both Psychology AND Cryogenics. A student of science with insight into the workings of the human mind, throw in some evil charisma and you’re on your way to being a badass Kagato!

FarewellI’m definitely going to watch the second season! Awesome! Yeah, I agree that you don’t need to go right into the first movie as it’s pretty much the exact same story (and it’s a bit jumbled and compressed at that.) There is one scene, however, in the first movie that is really powerful that you don’t get in the show (the English dub at least). After the battle on Gamilon, Wildstar/Kodai looks out on the utter ruin that he’s brought down on this civilization and he throws down his gun, weeps, and curses war and fighting! It’s an incredibly moving scene, and something we don’t really see in the TV series. In the show, the Yamato is always obliterating its enemies (with happy music playing in the background!) and not stopping to consider the morality of what’s basically genocide! In the movies, however, they tend to struggle with the moral and ethical issues of total war, and are much more conscious of the enemy as a living being too. Anyway, that’s my take on it.

That was fantastic, it really picked up towards the end. That battle on Gamilon was epic
😮 , and the last episode was both happy and sad😥 . Why did I not watch this show sooner?I was also rather amused when Sandor calmly flipped that switch to turn on the reflective shield and deflect Desslock’s laser.
And Captain Avatar…

Now on to Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato!
I know right!!!! I’m thrilled that you enjoyed the first season so much! The Quest for Iscandar story is by far the most iconic and classic of the franchise, but I think that once you watch The Comet Empire story (Farewell to Yamato/season 2) that you will agree with me that it is by far the most epic and dramatic of almost any franchise! I don’t know if you intend to watch only the movie, which is fine, but I highly recomend watching season 2 as well because 1. I think its better, 2. It is what the subsequent stories follow and 3. the slight story changes do wonders for the characters. Anyway, Please Please Please keep letting us know how you enjoy the show, its great to have other people to share my favorite anime with!

OTHERpeople. Not yourself. Thank you
^Kiyoka is Kiyone, because she gets mad at other people when they make mistakes!
Anyway,
Thorn is Ryoko cause she isn’t shy with her opinions,
Mittens is Sasami cause she enjoys messing with people (and cooks muffins!),
JG is Washu cause he’s always cooking up at least three big projects,
MitsukiLover is Yosho cause, well, he’s been around the block more times than the rest of us! :Cheeks:

Wow great find Tearatone! This certainly would have been quite a cool thing had it happened in the show! I love looking through these early story board concepts, some of the early ideas were pretty out there!
