Tenchismile I agree that in many ways Shayla Shayla is the Ryoko of
El Hazard. This leads to the interesting question as to what Ryoko would look like if she had red hair like her ‘mother’ Washu.
(Though it might actually match her personality more.)
I do believe there is some production art watercolors that show Ryoko with pink or purple hair at the least, though I do not seem to have it.

I’ve been really surprised by the mixed reaction Gurren Lagann has gotten since the announcement. The only thing about it I found less than stellar was the 2AM time slot, but I guess they don’t want to shuffle AoT, Bleach, Dandy ORNaruto – two new hotnesses with large fanbases and two long running juggernauts – so I guess they had no choice really. Been revisiting Ryuichi Sakamoto’s works since his diagnosis with throat cancer has come public. He’s a legendary composer and pianist who has a list of works as long as a building in Dubai is tall. He’s teamed up with quite a few people and produced a lot of soundtrack work over the years, including the Dreamcast’s bootup noise and the soundtrack for L.ack O.f L.ove (as well as being the writer!) on the same system. Gonna throw a few videos in here. First up is a collaboration he did with German glitch musician Alva Noto.

[/BBvideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MbQp6rfC8g Ryuichi plays live piano while Alva cuts up, samples and provides percussive beats by manipulating the sound. They did 5 albums together but Insen is my favorite because of the dreamy sound. Some of the others used unsettling sounds or high pitched tones and I don’t care too much for those. The mingling of interspersed live samplings really makes this almost dance-able.
Next up is his last collaborative album with Austrian guitarist and texture artist Fennesz.

[/BBvideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwELGACE-GY Fennesz provides a fuzzy, lush backdrop through careful guitar treatment to Sakamoto’s slow, downtempo keystrokes. You can hear bits of the natural guitar sound try to pierce the cloudy sky, or on occasion hear it turn almost synth-like. Sakamoto’s composition is introspective and tinged with feelings of regret, nostalgia and on occasion a bit of hope.
For something a bit different, here’s a piece he did for David Sylvian’s album Dead Bees on a Cake.

[/BBvideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKpwTgmOPn8 Instead of his usual Piano compositions, we see his interest in World Music come out. He used programmed instruments and guitar to give the track an exotic sound. He and Sylvian have collaborated on at least 5 albums together over the years with each one having a fairly distinct tone compared to the others.
But, perhaps most familiar to people is this little ditty:

Welcome to Tenchiforum! kiyonesmile1 You’ve certainly been in the trenches longer than most, especially around here. I admire the dedication to sticking with anime through the years. Our talk in mumble was really enlightening!
Glad you’ve come to stay with us, enjoy some coffee while the muffins come out. Isn’t that right,

If there was one thing God/ the chousen/boredom-induced hallucinations taught the Belgian monks, it was how to make a damn good beer. Trappist style ales were originally brewed to provide a beverage for the townspeople nearby the monastery. Later they were used as a means of raising funds for local charity or improving the grounds the monks spent their days so that they could continue their work with better facilities. Hundreds of years later only a handful of these Trappist breweries are still active but their beers are highly prized for their quality and intensity. http://i3.minus.com/iby7ziqr1WUCz3.jpg" /> Enter Ommegang: A brewery from New York who have dedicated themselves to the art of Belgian Trappists and the beers they crafted. Their Abbey Ale (referred to as such due to “Trappist” being a protected word – only sanctioned monasteries may use the name on their products) was the first beer I had that truly opened my eyes to the sprawling universe of great beer out there. I have it to thank for making me realize where my niche was in beer. If I had to pick a favorite, this would be the one. Number Uno on Nil’s list.
Packed with flavors and heady aromas, I often draw comparisons to pumpkin or banana bread. Fruity without being too sugary sweet or overtly “fruit” flavored, spicy, hearty enough to stick with you for a while and soul-warming with a respectable 8.2% ABV. The deep violet-red color is almost enough to bring to mind a red wine. Complex enough for a trained tongue to extract all manner of flavors from, inviting enough for both beer snob (hi) and beginner alike to enjoy. While having taken a few liberties with the recipe compared to St. Bernardus, Chimay or Trappistes Rochefort, I’d like to imagine that the monks who still master those brews would be able to appreciate this respectful and tasty tribute to the work of hundreds of years of solitude.
