  • Cool finds, bro! I lol’d The Weathering Continent tape. While I wouldn’t consider it a classic, free is always a good thing. From the looks of it, I assume the Geneon release of Universe was open-box, so the pricing seems fair from a vendor’s standpoint. Of course I’m referring to the older release, which looks like a steal to me!

On a side note, looking at the laughable cover art for Gunbuster, did Bandai Visual USA (not Bandai Entertainment) ever release content under their namesake, or was it all under “Honneamise?” Also, the original Bubblegum Crisis was principally animated by ARTMIC. While AIC may have done some support animation, as such was their core business (and still is to an extent), they only acquired ARTMIC after its bankruptcy in 1997. As a result, they made Tokyo 2040, which was a piece of shit IMHO.

Turns out Ufotable’s long-awaited Fate project is a 2-cour redo of Unlimited Blade Works soawesome1

While I enjoyed the UBW movie, the least DEEN could have done was given us a Rin X Shirou kiss scene. Hell, Shirou and Rin seemed closer in the first anime. With Fate/Zero being considered a seinen series, maybe ufotable will be more faithful to the VN. It’s not like scenes need to be specifically shown, but that would be the day…

At the end of the day, Rin is undeniably the best character, and deserves to be paired with Shirou in a full-fledged anime series.

Thank you everyone, and sorry for the late reply. I suppose you could say I was busy contemplating on what I’ve done within the past quarter-centennial in terms of contributing to society. mmhmm1
^Maybe because it was the same author? Also, Outlanders came before Caravan Kid.

This proposed timeframe raises some rather startling coincidences. Shortly after Haruna’s death, Yosho would have set foot onto Earth, a world at war. Would he have involved himself in the conflict? Would he have exiled himself to the hills of Okayama? When did he meet Itsuki during his time on Earth? Reading the history, the city Okayama was nearly destroyed in 1945. Would Yosho have defended his newfound home in this time of crisis?

Unless you mean the Okayama Prefecture, it’s established in the OVA continuity the setting is closer Kurashiki City. It seems logical Universe Yosho/Katsuhito stayed out of World War II, but was involved with the mourning period afterwards as a priest, and established his own judgement of humanity as more “gentle” than Juraian beings. Also in the Universe continuity, before Nobuyuki married into the family and expanded the house, it was shown to have always existed in the hills, thus would have been unaffected from the bombing of coastal lowlands, which were mostly industrial.

Influential to anime as whole? Yes, but particularly to Tenchi? No

Yes, her appearance is certainly derived from Iczer, as well as the whole concept of synthetic lifeforms wielding power from their hands. I was referring to the themes of Tenchi and Outlanders being comparable, and specifically Ryoko personality. Kahm strikes me as being more similar to her for the fact she falls in love with what appears to be an ordinary man, is oblivious to her destructive nature, and has a complicated past. She is also entangled with the affairs of an extraterritorial empires, clearly paralleling Jurai. Although, that might be taking it a stretch too far.

Understanding that Kajishima was with AIC since its formation, it’s logical to believe he’s worked on most their projects before Tenchi and his decision to go freelance. Iczer 3 was proof of his ability, and essentially the spark, while Tenchi was the fire of his success.

I find Outlanders more influential. If anything, Tenchi is basically its spiritual successor.

Still, I love Toshihiro Hirano’s character designs. They should be considered on par with high profile 80s character designers like Haruhiko Mikimoto (his mentor) and of course, Akemi Takada.

It makes me wonder, considering the many aspects from Megazone 23: Part 1 which were recycled for Iczer, was this why AIC decided for Part 2 to have different shitty character designs? With the exception of animation assistance, they had nothing to do with Part 1.
