So, we’ve already talked a bit about the new character designs themselves, now lets talk about their clothes!

They’re certainly very “revealing,” which is what it is, I suppose. I can like it so long as the clothes don’t lend to the characters themselves being over sexualized.

On the whole, I think Yasuda has shown a great eye for color in these getups! I particularly like the stark duo-chromatic theme for Ryoko’s outfit. Ayeka’s outfit does a good job of maintaining the elegant look of her previous wardrobe, but with a lighter and more fluid feel. That open side goes awfully far up though… 😳 . Sasami’s pink and blue dress is pretty par for the course, and the short length feels like its trying to evoke one of her Pretty Sammy getups. I really dig Washu’s lab coat! She looks like she’s ready to hit the clubs, or the labs, whichever comes first! 😆 . Finally, Mihoshi’s outfit doesn’t look terribly practical for police work, but I’m happy they kept the white cotton ball tail thing.

Anyway, what does everybody else think? Oh, and feel free to toss in the the new characters and Tenchi if you want.

She made it REALLY far last year, and against some really tough opponents too! Here’s hoping the Ai Tenchi Muyo! hype comes in handy this time around! Also, there’s quite a few classic series ladies this year. I can see some particularly painful matchups coming in that category!

I’m amazed at how much awesome fan art for Ai Tenchi Muyo! is already out there after only a few days! They must really be eating it up over there! Hopefully we’ll see some western fan art too before long! Good finds Crazed and Dagon, thanks for the shares!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Marty! I’m glad you enjoyed the series overall. I do disagree about the Mitsu arc, but to each his own :D There actually is more Okuda manga material out there, but it’s pretty hard to find. There’s a standalone volume called “Sasami Stories” which is mostly just a collection of stories starring Sasami, but it also contains dozens of four panel comics he drew for the Pioneer fanclub (or something like that) which are pretty funny. There’s also a couple one-off comics he did that you can find floating around the web if you look hard enough. Anyway, congratulations on completing your Manga journey! I’ve always considered it a vital and criminally overlooked side of the Tenchi franchise. Feel free to share your thoughts about it here anytime!

As mentioned in my Otakon 2014 Roundup thread, the AMV contest at that con this year contained many standout entries! I won’t belabor your time with all of them, but I will share some of my particular favorites :D

This was a great action AMV with really great editing!

I LOVED this one! Let no one say magical girl shows are “girly,” especially not after they put on their war paint!

    Short, sweet, and absolutely adorable!

An AMV staring anime fans?! It works!

The funniest new AMV I’ve seen in a good long while!

Well, I promised to keep it short, so if anyone is interested in seeing the rest of the awesome AMVs from this contest (and I do recommend that you do!), feel free to check out the ballot and playlist that I linked to in my Otakon 2014 roundup thread!

Volume 9 is my favorite in the whole series! I thought it had the best character development for Ryoko, and it had a really engaging plot as well! If you’re interested in hearing more in depth discussion and opinions about the manga I highly recommend giving our podcast on that topic a listen! I’ll get you that PM as soon as I get back home to my laptop :)
