Hot news: Funimation’s release of the live-action Yamato movie has left the launch pad. After viewing it myself, I can give my endorsement. The subtitles are the same ones seen in the Eleven Arts theatrical release (Eleven Arts’ name is also on the disc), there are a few special features with subtitles (though unfortunately not the more substantial ones from the Japanese discs) and – to my complete surprise – an ENGLISH DUB. This was hitherto thought to be impossible, but here it is anyway. It’s not great (the voices don’t sound very much like the originals or indeed very different from each other) but it’s not bad, either. My only real beef is the occasional mispronunciation, like GaMEElas, but I gave up any hope of correcting that long ago.

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on a legit copy of the movie, this is the one you’ve been waiting for. It goes without saying that piracy is no longer necessary, and I encourage EVERYONE to replace their “temporary” copies.
