It was exactly one year ago to the day that I rediscovered Tenchi Muyo! In the last 365 days Ive watched, rewatched, and discovered some of the best anime and televison that I have ever seen! I have also met some fantastic people here on Tenchiforum and elsewhere across our fandom. So I am thankful for Tenchi for making this last year awesome, and for making all future years equally enjoyable!

    Wow, awesome pic find WisperG!

@MitsukiLover: Iscandar is pretty much what you see here. Notice how suspiciously similar to Japan that archipelago looks though lol!

While we’re talking about Iscandar, I found out something really heartwarmingly geeky the other day. You’re all familiar with the terrible environmental damage from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant after the earthquake in Japan last year. Well, the team of university scientists that are working to develop the radiation scrubbing techniques that will return the affected area to life have named their project “Project Iscandar”!

Not really a bug, but I was wondering if the forum’s clock would ever be updated to reflect daylight savings time? Not a major problem, but it’s a bit disorienting at times.

But I did finally make it to the episode where we learn the truth about Sandor’s fake limbs and y’know, the fact that, this whole time, they’ve concealed BOMBS. The dude keeps bombs in his arms and feet! Wazzup with that!?

    0n0plz

I still crack up every time I think of that episode! My mother and I always joke that he went for the optional upgrades when he picked out his limbs! 😆 Now you see why I’m so hard on the middle episodes of the first season and hope that Yamato 2199 just ignores some of them! They’re just so ridiculous by today’s standards! Oh, and you haven’t seen the last of Sandor’s inexplicably insane crafty-ness :D

EDIT: Although I will say this for the Beeland episode, it is one of the ONLY times we get to see Nova kick some ass on her own in the English dub. One of my least favorite things about the English dub was that it really “Feminized” her character. As you’ll see when you get to the Japanese movies, she’s really a competent and skilled officer in her own right who kicks untold amounts of ass and even puts Wildstar in his place more than a few times! The English dub makes her into a clingy “captain’s woman” stereotype, and her character is worse off for it.

Wow, leaving planet Beeland behind AND meeting Nagi! What an enjoyable coincidence you have there! :D

Yeah once you make it to the epic confrontation with General Lysis, the Star Blazers eps. will get exponentially more awesome!

Anyway, I’m STILL recovering from watching Evangelion! I will probably watch the EVA rebuild movies next to try and get back into the mood for watching anime. After that it will most likely be OVA 1&2 of El Hazard.

Wow thanks for the link Nobuyuki! I’ve been hearing about this encyclopedia for ages, but this is the first I’ve actually seen of it! There’s a lot of useful info in there, although it cracks me up seeing Achika listed as Tenchi’s mother in the OVA (but I’m fine with this lol) 😆

Ah, Ok this is turning into a real education for me lol!

Anyway, Kadokawa serves only Japan if I’m not mistaken, and these were officially translated by Viz for the western market right? Doesn’t that mean that Kadokawa only holds the original Japanese versions’ copyright, while the English versions are a separate property and are currently unheld?

EDIT: Also, how do we know that Kadokawa’s license hasn’t expired either? I tried searching through their site (courtesy of google translate) but I couldn’t find out one way or the other…

Honestly, I’m not fond of online manga scanlations (and by extension unofficial anime streams and fansubs) because, y’know… its illegal.

I agree with you WisperG, but both series’ have been out of print for almost 10 years, and as far as I have been able to determine Viz’s copyright of both series has lapsed. Unless I am very mistaken, that means that both series are now in the public domain. While it isn’t prohibitively hard to acquire hard copies, it is certainly a real pain in the butt, and until someone re-licenses them then online scans are the only practical way that this series can be discovered by new readers. Let me know if I’m wrong anywhere here, because I certainly don’t want to be seen encouraging illegal activity.
