    Alright, I’ll see if I can get it while I can (it is hard to find it for such a cheap price). I might also get the last Pioneer OVA single so I can have the English dub of the Here Comes Jurai Omake (I’m a completist…), but only if I find it for a bargain.

    EDIT: Got it and just finished watching it. It’s a good release, but I’ll definitely double-dip if it comes out on Blu-ray.

    I’m thinking about purchasing the Mihoshi Special/Pretty Sammy DVD for $28, which I found online. Do you guys think that’s worth it, or should I hold out for FUNi rescuing them? I guess if worse comes to worst I could sell my copy on ebay for what I paid RIGHT when FUNi announces their license and then buy their release. I just really want the Mihoshi special in my collection. The OVAs feel incomplete to me without it. I’ve also been enjoying the Pretty Sammy OVAs a lot (about to watch Ep. 3).

    Does anyone here know any way of contacting Jack Fletcher (Tenchi voice director from 1994-1997)? I’m having trouble crediting some Tenchi Universe voice actors on BehindTheVoiceActors (such as Amarube, Sagami, Tessei, Tetta, a few others). The credits are no help at all since they just give a generic list of the main voice actors (Julia DeMita, Michael Sorich, Michael Scott Ryan, John DeMita, and others were never credited, despite being key cast members). I sent Debi Derryberry an email about Amarube, since there’s a good sporting chance she might know (since she voiced his partner Yura), but she had no clue (though she believed it might have been Sherry Lynn, which of course isn’t right). Voice directors are ALWAYS the ones to talk to when confirming roles.

    Anyway, if anyone has ANY info at all, that would be AWESOME.

    I know why some lines were redubbed. I’m just surprised they were able to pull in (most of) the original actors to do them, especially since a couple of them weren’t very active in voice acting.

    Thanks! I was able to watch his appearance. The new voice still sounds pretty wacky, but in a very different way. I don’t think any of his lines were changed though. If they were, they weren’t big changes. It was probably changed because he sounded too flamboyant, and could come across as stereotypically (sp?) gay. Robert Martin Klein did sound higher-pitched and younger than John DeMita. Ironically, neither voiced him in GXP (that was Kirk Thornton).

    I also checked out episode 1 with the redubbed Kumakura (I think that’s his name. Not sure) with Michael Sorich redubbing Mark Tracy. Both voices work. His lines were probably redubbed for censorship reasons, and since his appearance was very brief, it was probably more convenient to just redo them all. I believe Sorich also voiced the character in Tenchi in Tokyo (haven’t gotten there yet, but that’s what I’ve heard).

    I’m surprised they pulled in Petrea Burchard, Matt Miller, Kate Vogt, Jennifer Darling, and Sherry Lynn for redo some lines here and there. I believe Bob Pappenbrook and Rebecca Forstadt did Katsuhito/Nobuyuki and Mihoshi’s pickup lines instead of Jay Hopper and Ellen Gerstell respectively.

    Now for the infamous swimsuit episode! :P

    EDIT: I watched it, and I’m surprised how well the Photoshopped swimsuits looked. It seemed like it took a lot of work, and the lighting was even adjusted. Although there were a few places where Ryoko’s swimsuit looked like it really “popped”. It might’ve been the color. Don’t know why they didn’t make it a less noticeable black or something. Why purple for Ryoko and orange for Ayeka? I thought it was amusing that Ryoko was given a bikini and Ayeka a one-piece. At least the editors seemed to know the characters’ personalities! XD I’m also surprised they kept Mihoshi’s “Oh my God!” instead of redubbing it as “Oh my Gosh!” (or something else with the same meaning).

    Does anyone know where I can find a clip of Robert Martin Klein’s Seiryo voice? For censorship reasons, he redubbed all of John DeMita’s dialogue for that character in the Toonami version of Episode 13 (apparently all of it, not just a couple lines). If anyone has a clip, I’m curious to hear it (I would also need it to do a Seiryo voice compare on BehindTheVoiceActors).

    I think FUNi is a little hard on age ratings. For god’s sake, they even gave Tenchi Universe a mature rating (when I watch it on Hulu, I get “The following is intended only for Mature audiences. Viewer digression advised” like it really has much if any content worse than DBZ. The language is PG-level, and there’s no more nudity than Sailor Moon… TV-PG would probably be the best rating for the uncut show…

    Like I said, I understand the business sense, it’s just strange the way things worked out. Magical Girl shows are a hit or miss here. About the only hits are, like you said, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, but also Madoka Magica, Tokyo Mew Mew (it got good ratings on 4KidsTV, but Tom Wayland told me the 2nd half wasn’t dubbed because the show was too short for merchandising), Winx Club (not an anime, but still definitely a Magical Girl show), and perhaps a couple others, but those are the biggies. I guess it also didn’t help Magical Project S is a kid’s show, and was even marketed as 3+ here (despite being subtitled. The subs were even lightly censored), where Tenchi is in an older male demographic. I guess it was difficult to make Magical Project S work in that regard. It’s a shame really.

    I’m still curious why FUNi decided to license Sasami: Magical Girl’s Club. I’m happy they did, but it seemed like a pretty obscure little kids’ show, easily the most obscure part of the Tenchi franchise. I guess since they handle the Tenchi property now, they sort of kinda… “got” it…? I know that’s a horrible reason, but it’s the only thing I can think of.

    Still, never say never. Even if FUNimation doesn’t pick that show up (and I’d be surprised if they did, seeing as the sales for Sasami: MGC weren’t that good from what I hear), I suppose it’s possible a company like Sentai could, and if they decided to do a dub, they could do it with Bang Zoom, and get Sherry Lynn back (who returned for their Rozen Maiden dub). Is it likely? Maybe not, but still, you never know.

    What I don’t get is why Pioneer never dubbed the show in the first place, seeing as Tenchi was pretty much their “trademark” show (like Dragon Ball Z to FUNimation, Evangelion to ADV Films, and Slayers to Central Park Media). Even if the Pretty Sammy OVA wasn’t a hit, leaving a part of their big property undubbed seemed a little strange (even if it does make business sense). Imagine if one of the aforementioned companies released a part of their trademark properties undubbed :?
